- Oral isotretinoin is a very effective medication for treating severe acne. It is not meant for everyone, but for those suffering from scarring nodulocystic acne, or inflammatory acne that keeps coming back after rounds of oral antibiotics, it can life-changing. It is the best medication out there in our attempts to "cure acne."
Majority of individuals will experience significant improvement with one treatment course; and may continue to have minimal to mild acne years after.
It is a strong medications with side effects, and it is a commitment, requiring a monthly visit to a dermatologist for 5-6 months, or more. In the US, oral isotretinoin is prescribed under strict supervision and patients are counseled carefully before starting.
As always goal is to achieve better and healthier skin, not perfect skin! #acneawarenessmonth
Love to hear about your #acnejourney #Accutane
I feel so happy for that young woman 😊. To have successfully cleared her skin must feel AMAZING! I hope she’s feeling more confident and beautiful in her skin now 🙏🏼
But the side effects are horrible especially for women. And for a very long time.
@@boboso1341No not necessarily
I had horrible cystic acne and was on Accutane. The side effects were HORRIBLE. As soon as I finished, it all came back with in months. Turned out my acne was from a severe dairy allergy. I eliminated dairy and cleared my skin with natural oils.
AWESOME 🏆
What were the side effects
@@joehouston2833Ive been taking it for a about a week, and I’ve already had back pain, and my lips are very very dry
That genuinely made me smile
You look like you are a kind person and an understanding down-to-earth doctor😊
I suffered for 15 years, before accutane.
Accutane needed 1 year to clear my skin, luckily I had no side effects aside from dry skin. It was SO worth it.
Your situation was severe or mid? Cause I’m gonna start taking it and only hape pimples on chin and cheeks but regular. It’s been 5 years of my battle and I m loosing so Accutane to the rescue
It’s my 3 month use accutane and my acne still look the same maybe worse
@@aishaabba1 that’s normal. You’re in the purge phase.
@@Reckoning2943 but why purge may be so long? Should everything just come out in a matter of 1 month and then just stop appearing under the skin once the medicine starts working??
@@Jaa_morant a purge may easily take up to 3-4 months if not longer. Skin needs time.
I think this medication is amazing. I know as with most medications that some side effects can be experienced.
I have to say though, if you rewatch the video that in the before scenes the lady isn't wearing makeup, but clearly in the last 2 still, she is.
This will obviously have an effect on the end result.
I thank the scientists so much for discovering this remedy. It saved my life and confidence.
Bro how long it took? I’m month 4 and have little new breakouts but left with spots from older ones. How long will it take for them to fade away? At least to a bearable or slightly visible state
@@Jaa_morant did it fade away? Im only 5 days in and not seeing any difference at all.
@@omran2507 it depends on the severity of the problem. I had 6 years of acne before and because of that lots of post acne spots on cheeks so in my case even after 6 months they are visible( fading very slowly). Maybe if u didn’t have acne for long your relatively new post acne will go faster. Anyways, 5 days is nothing man. You should stop breaking out first which may take 2-3 motnhs, and then start seeing results.
I’m still taking the medicine and slowly starting to use cosmetic procedures like flash therapy now to heal discolouration in my face.
I’m ready that overall the process may take up to a year. But it’s better than any other stuff, I wasted 6 years using other methods and only accutane worked
@@omran2507
im just 5 days in, how r u doing?
@@Jaa_moranttook me two full courses over two years. Tons of side effects including hair loss

i've been struggling with acne for the last 15 years, i've been on accutane for 3 weeks and since i started it i only had one pimple! i never imagined this, i used to get new pimples every single day!
Be aware that purge will still likely happen and may last for motnhs. But eventually everything will be good of course
How is it now?
Best decision Ive ever made! The purge is no joke though.
isotretinoin interact with corona vaccine ?
Why does it have to take so long to work ,
Hello doc, I have 15 more days to go on Accutane and its been 10 months, which I took 40mg daily for the 9 of it. My dermatologist said its fine since total dosage taken was around 10000 mg (I am 5’8 and 160lb), but I am still curious. Is it okay?
@Learnalogy not really. Few acnes appear and disappear over time but haven’t had a breakout ever since.
@@Sammykaze man do u know if they’re any diet restrictions when takin accutaine? Apart from staying away from alcohol and junk food?

Same been for 5 years. Remember thinking it will go as I get old but it never did. Just got more scars and insecurities. Go on accutiane guys, if nothing elder helps. I wish I’ve don’t it in my school to ensure the next uni years to be good…
I figured out the secret to Accutane. I took it when I was 15 for six months and the only side effect I did not want to have was the dryness and dry chapped lips. I had done a lot of research on it and my cousins took it as well so I knew quite a bit about the drug and how bad ppls lips would get and some would bleed. Nothing else worked for me my back looked like a pepperoni pizza so it was my last resort I needed to take it. But I just DID NOT want the chapped dry lips no matter what. Then I thought if accutane is going to basically suck all the fluid out of my body if I keep hydrating myself maybe it will help? I drank 4-6 L of water every single day when I was on acccutane for a full six months. Even tho I lived in the bathroom a lot It helped tremendously. It first gets worse your initial breakout before it starts to get better but I wore my chapstick and drank my water and my lips were good. Skin was a little dry but nothing lotion couldn’t fix. The constant rehydrating is what saved me and made everything so much easier. After 2.5 months my skin became clear I remember getting compliments all over I was very happy and now I’m 29 and it’s still going well. But that is the secret. You HAVE TO DRINK 4L atleast every single day while on it trust me it will help you soooo much. Accutane is going to literally suck all the fluid out of your system but if you keep hydrating it won’t be nearly as bad. Anyone who’s on it or looking to go on it please do this and watch how much easier your treatment will be. I promise. God Bless
Won't it just get bad again after she stops??
Hey doctor, question…
Can you take 2 10mg isotretinoin capsules at once in the morning and another 2 10mg in the evening to Carter for a 40mg prescription?
Do not do that
Nope, the maximal amount you can take per day is ONLY 20 mg and you have to take it after a good meal.
