    Thank you for a great reaction! Scott is known for improvising on stage. PTX members love him for that, and go with whatever he does every time. We (pentaholics) call it 'to scottify the song'. 😀 Sometimes it works in a song's favor (for example, he does the INSANE vocals live performing their original 'Star on Top' during their current tour, and it sounds so much better than the studio version), sometimes it doesn't. They just work so hard, and so much, it's crazy. Scott's quote about their neverending a cappella concerts: 'It is so so hard. One, you're really exposed, so If one member falls out of tune, even, like, 1%, the whole thing feels and sounds off. And then, also, singing the solos is actually easier than singing the background parts, because when you're singing the solo there's lots of space, and when you're singing the background parts, it's these sustained long notes. And so, that's where your voice gets really tired. And so, doing it for 2 hours at an a cappella concert is just not something that human voice should be doing day after day after day, it's not good for you. It is really tough.' (q)

    Marc … I was at the Hollywood Bowl and in Denver and there are thousands and thousands of fans and we love that PTX has 5 individuals that make up this band and we love each and everyone for whom they are. Matt is sooooo fun at the concert while in the studio he is more contained. Awesome! And Scott is one of the reasons they continue to grow and develop as a band.He is a risk taker and an emotional person. He shows this in his music performances. I admire his willingness to be himself. His band mates love him and it shows on stage. Been to concerts for the Beatles, Elvis, Cher, Elton John and lately PINKI! Ridiculous for someone to tell Elton or PINK to just sing. A long concert needs many elements to keep the crowd engaged. A performer’s soul and personality makes it more than another line in a song. I do also love the studio versions and videos. But I don’t get on a plane to see Pentatonix in Denver to hear studio version… I want more and they deliver…. And Scott is a huge huge part of that! Love them all

    not the first time i've said it, probably wont be the last, but really, at some point, I hope you accept or realize that Scott isn't doing anything to be the "front man" or "take over" from anyone. He is emotional and passionate when he sings. If i wanted to hear, and if you want to hear, the recorded studio track exactly replicated, then listen to that. I love hearing Scott's emotion when he sings live. I'll take it a hundred times over just hearing them replicate themselves exactly at they did it in studio. Also... they all embellish, change things up, overtake the others at points... its what happens when you are singing live and with emotions. none of them mean anything by it, or take it personally when someone else does it. In fact, they LOVE it when someone else does that. it makes it fun and exciting. Scott is just more animated on stage most of the time so you've seemed to zero in on him alone. I genuinely enjoy your analysis of things but having one person constantly be ragged on gets frustrating. This isn't like a musical or something where you're expecting the EXACT same thing every night from them, its different, fun, ever changing, and very exciting. their ability to have fun and change things up is what makes them so talented and exciting to watch live. You don't have to like what he does, that is a matter of opinion, but its the constantly saying that he's trying to steal attention or the spotlight away from his bandmates that gets to me because it isn't true.

    My hot take as a Pentaholic is that since they got criticism in the early years, Scott intentionally ad-libed so listeners knew it was live! They don’t have to prove themselves anymore, now it’s his style.

      I also think he just genuinely is a dramatic and theatrical and over the top personality whether on stage or not. He has at times seemed to try and dull that but when he's more secure in himself he shows it more on stage as well. To me it's beautiful seeing him being his most extra self because we know that he hasn't always been comfortable being that. Like... you GO Scott in your sparkly mesh shirt and your twirls! They are all very different individuals and that shows in how they interact with performing, audience and all that. None of their ways are bad or wrong. Just different.

      And in Creep, he muxes up the beginning. On the Masked Singer, he belts it out the first time he sings "I'm a creep", but on the studio version, he sings that in falsetto. It's awesome both ways, but I love that he changes it up!! I love Scott & his lovable personality!! 💜💜💜

    Tbh, as a Pentaholic, I would not want any live performance to sound like the studio version, meaning, I absolutely love when Scott or anyone else for that matter, changes the song up a bit. It would seem to robotic to hear the studio version in a live setting. But I totally agree with you that Scott does have 1 of the best voices, and vocal ranges I've ever heard

    I think Scott just happens to be what a blog I read call a BEC to you. A "B**ch eating crackers". The kind of person that for no actual valid reason gets on our nerves just for chewing or existing in our space. We all have those people, but dude, it's on us to recognize that in ourselves. You don't have to love him or even like him. But your comments go beyond musical or even stage critique. You assign motives to him (trying to upstage etc) with very little basis for it. Kevin did an interview about this show talking about how Scott and Matt were the hypemen behind Kevins 10 minute solo stage moment telling him to add dancers and as many cellos as he wants. During this christmas tour Matt has a solo song where he absolutely kills it. Every single tour date so far Scott and Kevin have looked at each other in awe over Matt. Scott gets so hyped and giddy over Matt getting all the love from the audience. If you're gonna assign motives to actions, might want to watch more than a few performances. He's a bit much for you? Fair.. We all like different things. But that seems like a you problem and not a him problem to me.

      Absolutely! There's always people like that, whoever they are... but I come to watch these reactions for, like you said, musical and stage critique- not critiques on the person themselves, especially when it's based on a performance. There are plenty of singers out there who I guess I'm not super into as a person, but as others said above, I can recognize the talent! Tbf, I love Scott as a person as well as is voice... but since this IS after all a music reaction channel, I expect just that. A music reaction! I agree with what you said, "seems like a you problem and not a him problem to me." Agree wholly!

  • @lisaoliverius6086
    @lisaoliverius6086 Рік тому +4

    It’s safe to say that I am obsessed with PTX. I’ve been listening to their music since the very beginning, when they would sit on a couch and record. It has been this singer‘s delight to watch their evolution. I can remember watching the documentary and seeing them react to their new stage set up. At that point in time, it seemed like they had reached the pinnacle, and that it couldn’t get any better. Looking back, that set seems so simple; so basic. To see them now on the stage of the Hollywood bowl, with that lighting is extraordinary. Each individual in that group is so profoundly talented and I am so proud of them for bringing a cappella music into the main stream. Yes, Scott does take a lot of liberties with the music and does add a lot of vocal acrobatics to their arrangements. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I don’t but as you said, his voice is magical and can do just about anything. I will always defend his right for the need to be creative. I can only imagine the many challenges of singing straight a cappella for hours every single night - I just can’t blame him for wanting to be creative. That said, I will never stop loving and appreciating their music and feeling like a proud mom, every time I see them on the stage. I truly hope that one day I can afford a ticket to see them live - I can only imagine that that will be an actual spiritual experience for me. Thank you for supporting what they do and for giving us your spin on their music, as a professional. I love your content…even when you pick on Scott. 😋

    I'm not a big Pentatonix fan (their music tends to sound the same to me after a while, but I do like them in small doses), so maybe this has been done before? What I would like to see, but I realize your platform isn't the right one for it, is the sound each singer makes isolated. I want to see the percussionist perform just his beats without the other vocals. Each singer without the other sounds, etc. And how do they decide who performs what when they start to work on a new song? Their style is so unique - I just want to see their process and understand a little better how they work through the concept to a finished piece.

      @@jcs1025 I love Scott and his enthusiasm. I don't think he's trying to outshine anyone, I think he just naturally gets drawn in to the crowd and music. His riffs are fun. 90% of the time it sounds great when he changes it up. As he himself says "doesn't always go well". He has also mentioned that the later in the tour they get the more he does it. Must get quite stale singing the same song every time. Kevin also often changes up both the beat (which is less noticable. Matt often tags along on those and they have fun mixing it up) and his singing. His changeups are more hit or miss for me. You can tell he's newer at singing than Scott when going off script. Still stunning ofc. Kirstin and Mitch seem to stick more to the arrangements and also more to their assigned spots. I just think it's different types of stage precense and personality rather than trying to upstage someone. It has been fun because Mitch has been mixing up the riffs on joyful joyful this tour and seems to mess around with Matt a bit on stage during Most wonderful time. Also, they have made a habit of mixing it up here and there in songs for the simple reason that they continuously get accused of lipsyncing since they can sing so close to the originals. So someone changing things up a bit is almost a necessity.
