      Picked it up a couple of weeks ago. Amazing. Quick starts, chugs along like a tractor, really solid bike! Frame size feels like 7/8th the size of the max bike. Doesn’t feel nearly as heavy as the stats say.

    Nice work. Excellent presentation and communication. What makes this bike unique to the 230 is that it's a 4 valve rather than 2. More like the old XR's. The powers up nearly 50%. It'd be great to see this bike get a cult following.

    Great take on the 250f .
    It really is a nice machine all around, love it in the trails riding 3rd is so much fun. It will sing too, pulls great and goes everywhere my 300 2t will pretty much just like you said the pegs particularly the break pedal can catch and bend in some deeper single track. I’ve bottomed out the fork a few times. I wouldn’t recommend the Mx track unless you roll the jumps.
    The beauty of this bike is the cost of ownership. Inexpensive to own and operate considering. Doesn’t ask for much in the maintenance department with that air cool Honda reliability. We are in the midst of converting to a dual sport for a bit of around town commuting. Great review and great riding out there.

    I'm 45 and I bought a '24 model this spring. I've been doing single track forest riding. So far I have hand guards, aluminum skid plate, Yoshimura RS-2 exhaust, wide foot pegs, and a Twin Air engine filter. I have suspension on order from Bruce Triplett. I can't wait to get it installed, it's supposed to be a night and day difference from the very soft stock suspension. Next will be some nice soft gummie tires when the stockers are worn out. Awesome bike for the price and a few mods can really transform it. Great review.

    Love this bike, don't love the "great beginner bike" mantra all the dam time. Ridden bikes for 30+ years, from YZ125, KX250, to almost every single XR cc made, including XR400 for past 10. All I can say is, this CRF250 is as good as 95% of them. (Hard to beat XR600R!). It's far from beginner. As much as I loved my XR400, I would pick this one over the 400 any day of the week now. Bikes have come far in 3 decades, and we've gotten pretty f'n spoiled to even think this CRF250 is nothin but a beginner bike. Spoiled indeed.

    I was content riding a dual sport, a KLX300, on tight single track. Then I rode a buddy's CRF250F at the same place, the first time I'd ever ridden a trail bike or dirt bike, not a dual sport. It was so much easier and fun to ride in tight woods single track. I decided to trade the KLX300 dual sport on a dedicated trail bike since that's all I was using the KLX300 for. So I started shopping between the CRF250F, the KLX230R, and the KLX300R. I have another buddy with the KLX230R and got to ride the CRF and KLX back to back. I know which one I'd choose if both were available, but I'm anxious to hear your opinion.

      I need the answer to this lol.
      My local shop has a really nicely equipment Kawasaki versys 300 for $4k. Obviously cheaper. People take them off road with knobbies.
      Not sure if I want that or a crf250f.
      Apples to oranges but…a road legal trail bike for 4K that gets 75 mpg is hard to pass up.

    • @jwaller1327
      @jwaller1327 2 роки тому +5

      I have a Versys X300. Comparing it to a CRF250F isn’t really apples to oranges; that’s more like apples to watermelons! They really don’t compare. So it all depends how you plan to use the bike, what your expectations are. The Versys X300 is a great small ADV bike. If you plan to ride it on the road, including both paved and unpaved roads, it beats any dual sport or trail bike for that purpose, in my opinion. However, it’s not and will never be a proper trail bike. It wouldn’t hold up in the terrain he’s riding in the video. The power delivery isn’t right for it, there’s not enough ground clearance, not enough suspension travel, it’s about 100 lbs to heavy for that riding, and it wouldn’t be able to hold up to the sort of abuse it would take in a real off road situation. If the only dirt you plan to ride in is dirt roads, the Versys X300 for $4K is a smoking deal. If you plan to do trail riding or bushwhacking, spend the extra money on the CRF250F and modify it to get it plated for street use if that’s allowed in your state. If not, and you need something street legal, look into the KLX230 or the XT250. I own an XT250 and have ridden the off road KLX230R. There’s not much between the KLX230R and the CRF250F. And it seems like the KLX230 dual sport isn’t much different from the KLX230 trail bike, so it’s probably the closest thing to a street legal version of a CRF250F you could find. Otherwise, look into the XT250. It’s a relatively light dual sport with decent ground clearance and punches above its weight. It’s not as good as the CRF250F off road, but it will get you to just about anywhere the CRF will. You’ll just have to work a little harder. Good luck!

    • @jwaller1327
      @jwaller1327 2 роки тому +2

      @@americandude3825 Glad to help. That CRF250F is a great trail bike. I really was looking to trade in my KLX300 on it, the KLX230R, or the KLX300R, all fuel injected Japanese trail bikes (like the practicality, reliability, and relatively low cost compared to the hot-blooded Euro counterparts). None were available when I went to trade the KLX300 dual sport in but there was a year old used CRF250RX with only 3 hours for considerably less than a brand new one. I got that. It's more of a cross country race bike rather than a trail bike. Way more power than the CRF250F, probably too much power for my current riding level and rather unforgiving, too. If I'd had an opportunity to really try the RX first, I probably would have practiced a bit of patience and just waited for a CRF250F, KLX230R, or KLX300R to become available. If you can find a slightly used KLX230R or KLX300R but can't find a CRF250F or can only find one at a much higher price, the two Kawasaki trail bikes might be something to look into. The KLX230R is almost identical to the CRF250F in most ways, but with a slightly buzzier engine (which also has 6 speeds if that matters to you). The KLX300R is more powerful and with better suspension and also has 6 speeds. On a security note, the CRF250F has a key but both of the Kawasakis just have a button, making them more likely to be stolen.
