Chevelle SBC Engine Removal - Vice Grip Garage EP26

  • I remove the 307 sbc from the 1969 chevelle. There's around 20 days to Hotrod Power Tour when this was filmed, so that seems to make sense right? I found a really unique unibell transmission with the tabs undrilled! Something you don't see every day. I plan on seeing why this 307 is hurt, and maybe even do something with it. The plan for a new engine? Well watch and find out...

After having done so on my 68, i can really recommend a power steering swap. Running a Grand Cherokee V8 steering box, used the lines from that too, messy but it works, now car is a lot less effort to drive! Not that steering was heavy, but MAN, 10 turns from lock to lock got old fast

In all seriousness, I think you've hit upon the magic formula---beater hot rods are where it's at. You can have loads of fun with dilapidated old iron without taking out a second mortgage on the house, and the cool factor is still there. For Rocky, I'd probably get a salvage yard 350 out of a Suburban, add an RV cam (for maximum burnout fun) and whistle 'er in

Multi time comment maker here I'm still loving the channel and your sense of things. FYI, do this car fun now and enjoy every minute if it. I miss the days of buying old clunkers and working on them way more than they deserved. You turn around and your getting older , your back is smoked and both knees are shot. THEN WELL.....Not as much fun at that point. Enjoy it everyday and be thankful. MERICA

Hey dude! I think it's a good idea to wear eye goggles under the car. Last time something got in my eye, I had to go to urgent care and get a piece of rust flake out of my eye. It's good to wear since you are being pinned under the car with the driveshaft and all that vibration knocks gravel and rust right in your face. That's a perfect way to torture somebody! Love your videos! Thanks!

I also have a leveler device you can put on the chains to alter the angle of the engine without having to extend the beam on the picker. Always worked for me. I would recommend investing in one. Every tool you invest in will save you time and misery.

Reminds me of the '63 vette roadster I bought in '76. Had the rare 307-4bbl option, right from the factory. Seller told me she was a 350, though. Back in the days when Dick Cavett was on TV and caveat emptor was the law of the land. Cost a fellow $250 to buy a '65 fuelie 327 to replace it. The numbers then matched better.

307's were not really desirable from the beginning. Most had bad camshafts when new. I always was looking for 400 small blocks they were mostly in early 70's impala wagons. very nice show as always, keep-em coming.

307's were derated from 200HP to 115PH in 72 due to emissions. They did this by a low lift cam and 74 or 76cc chamber heads. The cam is the same cam in the low emission 350 from early to mid 70's

The ole Harbor Fright foldable engine lift... Mine folded right where the ram attaches to the boom on a 454. I leveled it out, angle and plated it.

This video made me sad. It made me miss my old mechanic. If I had a big project upcoming he would lift my rig and pressure steam clean my undercarriage. There is NOTHING better than wrenching on a sparklingly clean underside.

Thank You for another classic. I think anybody that ever works on cars/trucks can honestly say...whatever tool you drop, always goes into the worst/hardest to get to place possible. It will be fun to see what you come up with to go back in. Regards.

Had a 307 in my 74 El Camino and every time I went around a corner the oil light came on in the dash, lol. It was using almost 2 quarts of oil a week until my Dad and I swapped in a 350 from a 76 Impala.

I had this exact car when i was 19 , two door ht 307 auto , comeplete beater , dents all over , one dangly headlight , drove the living shit out of it till it got towed (they thought it was abandoned ) I found these massive Mickey Thompsons on 5 spokes ( they fell off a truck) and they werent even close to fitting , took a cutting torch to the rear wheel wells , voila , custom!!! Back when cars like this were 500 bucks.

Back in high school a buddy had a 307 in a 70 Chevelle. Powerglide.
He built this hot 327 and a turbo 350 for it.
He cried when it wouldn’t even do a powerbrake and we all laughed.
Nothing like spending money and going backwards!!
It needed a rear gear swap sooooo bad.
That 307 ran, nail it at 45 into first and you’d feel the back get a little loose.
