You may also consider getting some library of America editions for your library. I picked up Elizabeth Spencer after you spoke of her Willa Cater has 3books Updike has a bunch. I think Hijuelos is a good one as well
I don’t know if you know that Michael Urie narrated the audiobooks of Steven Rowley’s prior books The Editor and Lily and the Octopus. I read The Guncle in print instead of listening because I was so disappointed that Michael Urie wasn’t the narrator! So of course I think he would be perfect to play Patrick in a movie!
I really enjoyed "The Master Butchers Singing Club." I'll call it my second-favorite Erdrich book. It has been a long, long time since I read "True Grit," but I loved it. Atwood, Cather, and Updike are all books I want to read but haven't gotten around to just yet. I hope all is going well with Jamie.
I like your voice...creepy, I know😊oh had to edit this, saw you copy of my antonia and got jealous. I only have it as an ebook but absolutely loved it;
I haven't read anything by Louise Erdrich and know that I need to! She seems well-loved on BookTube :) Any recommendation on what read of hers first is greatly appreciated, Greg! TIA 😄
Her debut, Love Medicine, is an astonishing book that has all the magical realism aspects you will find in many of the others, so it's a good intro. But my favorite is A Plague of Doves. You could start with either Plague of Doves or Round House to see if you like her and then go back to the beginning (which is essentially what I'm doing).
I love love love Louise Erdrich, but there is a lot of variability in her books. I've read a lot of her bibliography - some of it is amazing, some not.
I've been very up and down with the books of hers that I've read so far, but I do find her career to be very interesting. Hopefully the whole arc will make it worthwhile!
I can appreciate rights issues in publishing but….I find it really annoying when a book wins a major prize in another part of the world but you cannot get a copy. Not even an e copy. For example…. The Erratics by Vicki Laveau. It won the Stella ( Australia). It took years to get a copy because it was published in Canada by a small press.
I agree--I get that rights issues can be complicated, but in this day and age it doesn't make sense to have major book releases only available in one region.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos- your articulation station regarding 📚 really helps me GET them & it shows in my TBR adds deletes & loved reads. Blahdiggityblah AKA: thank you! 📖🪱💚
Another great video we all love your stories
Thank you!
This book haul is a plethora of riches!
I'm happy about them all, even if it is a large haul.
true grit!!
It's such a good book.
I always enjoy your videos and find them very informative.
Thank you--that means a lot!
It is a law of nature that books must grow to fill the available space!
It's just science!
That My Antonia is a work of art.
It's so pretty and I love it.

That's a good idea--thanks.
I just managed to find a nice used copy of True Grit too. Looking forward not just to the book itself, but Donna Tartt’s introduction!
I hope you like it as much as I did!

I did not know that Urie narrated the other books! Now that I know there's a connection I really hope he gets to play Patrick even more.

Thank you!
I’ve only read two books by Atwood and one by Cather so far, but both are great.
the non-fic pullitzer prize books you got sounds so interesting!
I thought I would be the only person who thought so! 🤪
Greg: I'm curious what you think of the Hohenberg books? Thanks for your great videos!
I haven't read them cover to cover yet but I've skimmed through--and used them as a reference for my Grapes of Wrath video. They were great for that!

Thank you for the kind words. My Antonia is a fantastic book.
There’s a GUNCLE movie …. On prime 😳. Alright, seriously I’m finished ✅ 😬
I did not know that!

I refuse to watch "The Guncle" movie if Dan Levy is not cast in the main role
Fair enough!

Thank you so much! That means a lot!
😂 the night watchmen is one of the very few I DO own . Okokokokokokok comment allowance overdrawn 📖🪱💚
😂 It's funny that Erdrich will be the last Pulitzer book I purchase for my collection and not one of the ones I don't like.
