Hi Nicole. You discussed a great collection of books during the video today. I too have not read most of the authors mentioned by you except for Graham Greene. I had borrowed a book of his from the school library when I was a teenager, but can’t recollect the title. Take care dear friend. Your videos are ever so intriguing and informative about the selected books that one can not help but smile from ear to ear listening to your passionate vocal delivery. Blessings🌞🌞🌞

Hello, I really enjoy your book chats. I am so envious of you to be reading some of those for the first time. I absolutely love the Go-Between. I read it first about 45 years ago and have reread it many times since. The same for Brideshead Revisited. I think both will fit so brilliantly together because they have some very similar themes, and time-wise you can see how the country was changing. You know how some books become beloved because they speak to you of your first reading, the places you read them first and that they have become friends, so you can’t see them dispassionately… but I still think those books are wonderful. I hope you come back and say how you get on with them. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos.

Hi Caroline, yes I noticed the common themes between the Go-Between and Brideshead Revisited when I did the searching, but I wasn’t sure. Really glad to hear you’ve read them and you think so too! Ah I love novels that show the change of a place through time. I’m very excited to read them for the first time too! I’ll do my best to make sure they get proper time and attention and that I won’t rush them. Will definitely report back :) thank you!

Put Brideshead Revisited on my tbr! Loved your enthusiasm for this title!

It’s fun to hear your enthusiasm to read these authors who will be new to you. Years ago I binge read many of Graham Greene’s novels. “Travels with My Aunt” was the last one I read. As an introduction to Greene’s writing I would recommend that you read any of his other novels before that one. Possibilities: Our Man in Havana, Ministry of Fear, This Gun for Hire, The Power and the Glory, The End of the Affair as well as many other titles.

Oh cool thanks for the advice and the suggestions. It’s really useful to know. Is Travels with My Aunt not his typical style? Will look out for those books. See you around!

Graham Green may be best known for having written the screenplay for the celebrated film _The Third Man._

What a delightful haul, Nicole! I hope you'll enjoy all of these books, especially Brideshead Revisited (my second favourite novel of all time :D). The Go-Between is super high up on my TBR, I have a feeling I'm going to love it. The 1980 TV mini series of Brideshead Revisited is even better than the 2008 film, its attention to detail is absolutely breathtaking. It's on UA-cam if you're interested! And the new adaptation with Andrew Garfield was cancelled, apparently they didn't get the funding they needed. Kind of a shame, because Blanchett and Fiennes would have been amazing in these roles!

Thank you! Ooh I didn’t know you can watch the 1980 TV series on UA-cam! It sounds amazing. Will definitely check it out. Ah shame the new one is cancelled. Yes I imagine it’d be fabulous. I look forward to reading them!

Good evening Nicole, I cannot help myself so must toss out a title or two, maybe three or more- The Summer of '42 by Herman Raucher, a teenager is forced into maturity thru tragedy. Later made into a film with Jennifer O'Neill. John Knowles A Separate Peace, another Second World War book set at a New England prep school, a dark look inside adolescence. Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger, just for more adolescent angst. These are brief paperbacks, good fast reads for when in the mood for a book that hits the spot. Good video.

Haha thanks for the recommendations - I added them to my spreadsheet :) so many good books!

@@adayofsmallthings Oh, I forgot in my reply to your other response to Singled Out. Yes, definitely a non-fiction study and quite telling of the human cost of war. A tangential aside, Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame gives lesson to life's most precious gift, love. I gave copies to my nephews-unread. Quasimodo is a protagonist for all males to emulate. And another tangent, Shakespeare's majesty and beauty only increase with time's passage. His father must have been an Irishman, itinerant scholar serf whom placed the horns of cuckoldry Celtic crown atop English literature.

My introduction to Waugh was Brideshead Revisited.
In the 1980s, British TV did a ten part adaptation of BR, which makes the movie version look like a high school production.
I am in both camps about BR. It is a great read and entertaining. Also, BR is intentionally over written and mawkish.
Waugh is one of the best writers of English in the 20 century, but that artist did not do BR.
Try The Loved One, Scoop, Vile Bodies and The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold for the real Evelyn Waugh.
I inhaled a lot of Greene's fiction through high school and college. Never got to TWMA, so I'm looking forward to your reaction.
His travel writing and biographies are worth your time, especially Getting to Know the General.
Hartley and Jerome are just names that I should look into. Sons and Lovers is my current read and I plan to tackle Lawrence's short stories soon.

Oooh I'll have to check out the 1980s TV adaptation. I wonder if it's still available somewhere? Thanks for the recommendations of Evelyn Waugh - I have much to read and learn!
I look forward to reading Greene. It's encouraging to know you think it's worthwhile!
Hope you enjoy Sons and Lovers :)
