      The Dai-viet (Vietnamese) from the north invaded the Champa Kingdom (who were Cham) and migrating to the south and become the dominant culture in 19th century. Both are ethnically and linguistically different. However the Cham are closer to the Malay by race (Austronesian) and the language (Malayo-Polynesian) compared to Vietnamese. You can read more on the History of Champa Kingdom until its fall in 1832 by the vietnam expansion and suppression of Cham culture and language and Cham community refugees in Malaysia after the fall of Saigon and Phnom Penh in 1975. This may not be important to you but i think you should rethink that Cham and Vietnamese (nguoi viet/kinh) are not the same.

    To make the history short, Cham are the descendant of the Javanese, the modern day Malsysian/Indonesian. They practiced Hindu religion like that of the Khmer(Cambodian). When Javanese excepted Islam as their new religion, Cham people also followed. With Annam(Vietnam) relentlessly encroached into Champa and a constant war with Khmer, over times, Champa king deteriated and vanished by 17th century.

    • @Velvetia
      @Velvetia 6 років тому +12

      I'm a Javanese, my ancestors were of course Mahayana Buddhist and they willingly converted to Islam without even being forced by anyone (They followed what religion their King/Maharaja adheres to). And now, 95 percents of Javanese people are Muslims and Javanese has been the majority ethnic group in the Southeast Asia even since the ancient time. We influenced & ruled a lot Other Inhabitants of the Nusantara (Now : Indonesia). Our leader also made an oath to unify all the people and the regions of the Nusantara under one rule (Javanese rule) which was already fulfilled, but after the colonisation we're separated with our brethren who are the Malaysians, Bruneians, and Singaporeans (They all were once the tributary states to the Javanese Thallasocratic empire, prior to the European coming). Indonesia was almost 98% Muslims, but after the coming of the Dutch forcing people to adhere to their religion & spreading hatred among indigenous ethnic groups (Devide Et Impera Tactic) Many People eventually left Islam. That's the Greatest difference between Christianity & Islam. Islam was spread by Peace with no violence (Trade, marriage, and Da'wah). Meanwhile, Christianity was spread here by the Dutch with colonisation, force, torture, and other-violence involving tactics to Christen all the Muslims in Nusantara. And Thanks to Islam, Now Indonesia is the world's most civilised Developing country with the lowest Homicide & Suicide rate in the world. And in the whole history, Indonesia never had any organised crime group (Like Yakuza, Triad, Wah Ching, Born To Kill, etc.), and there has never been any street gangs in Indonesia. Furthermore, Overseas Indonesians never participated nor established any organised crime group like others do.
      Macao 🇲🇴 Murder Rate = 0.16 (600,000+ Total Population)
      Japan 🇯🇵 Murder Rate = 0.28 (126+ Million Pop)
      Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Murder Rate = 0.38 (3+ Million Pop)
      Indonesia 🇮🇩 Murder Rate = *0.50 (261± Million Total Population, 90% Muslims, No Roaming Rapists, No School Shooters, Never Had Any Organised Crime Groups, Never Had Any Gangs, Never Had Any Dangerous Bandits, No Moral-corrupting Half-unclad People, No Gun-wielding Thugs, and so on)*
      South Korea 🇰🇷 Murder Rate = 0.70 (50+ Million Pop)
      Taiwan 🇹🇼 Murder Rate = 0.82 (23+ Million Pop)
      Canada 🇨🇦 Murder Rate = 1.16 (37+ Million Pop)
      United Kingdom 🇬🇧 Murder Rate = 1,20 (65+ Million Pop)
      United States 🇺🇸 Murder Rate = 5.35 (325+ Million Pop)
      México 🇲🇽 Murder Rate = 19.26 (123+ Million Pop)
      Brazil 🇧🇷 Murder Rate = 29.53 (209+ Million pop)
      See! Indonesia is the only country on Earth that has big population who almost all are Muslims, but how come she can maintain the homicide rate very-very low? Simply, it's because the teachings of Islam that civilised us. So, You want to say again that These Muslim Indonesians are dangerous? In fact, No other developing countries can be as civilised as Indonesia. Even The U.S and the U.K won't have any chance comparing to Indonesia. Truthfully speaking, Living in Indonesia is 8 Times safer than live in the U.K and that of course is multiple times even safer than live in the so-called America.
      *Extra Fact :* All Muslim-majority countries have the lowest suicide rate in the universe

      I'm pretty sure, Khmer & Cham have Javanese ancestry, it's all because Cambodia was once a part of the Javanese dominion. Just look at the Khmer script! It resembles a lot the Kawi script (Old Javanese alphabet)! We Indonesians also love the Khmer, because Khmer are the most peaceful Buddhists in Southeast Asia. Khmer don't discriminate Khmer Islam (Cham), that's why We really respect Khmer people. Love from a Javanese ❤ 🇮🇩🇰🇭

    Wiki:
    Bani Islam is the syncretic form of Shi'a Islam that blends indigenous practices of matriarchy, ancestor veneration and Hinduism is practiced by the Cham Bani, who predominantly live in Vietnam's Bình Thuận and Ninh Thuận Provinces, and is considered unorthodox from mainstream Islam.[82] The Cham Bani worship in thang magik, the main communal setting for rituals.[82] They also celebrate the month of Ramuwan (Ramadan), during which ancestors are called to return home for veneration, and the acar (priests) stay at the thang magik for one month and adhere to a vegetarian diet.[82]
    However, a small band of Chams, who called themselves Kaum Jumaat, follow a localized adaptation of Islamic theology, according to which they pray only on Fridays and celebrate Ramadan for only three days. Some members of this group have joined the larger Muslim Cham community in their practices of Islam in recent years. One of the factors for this change is the influence by members of their family who have gone abroad to study Islam.

      On the coast of Viet Nam, in the region formerly known as Panduranga, the 19th century Vietnamese emperor Minh Mạng forcibly moved certain Cham villages away from the South China Sea in order to cut Cham people's ties with Insular SE Asia, thus reducing their power and ability to seek help from other Austronesian peoples with whom they held longstanding trade, cultural, and linguistic ties. This is according to a Cham anthropologist who revealed this deeper history to me. Some of the Hindu Cham (Balamon) in that region still preserve oceanic/water concepts in their funeral practices and concepts of the afterlife. Yet like most people they've learned to adapt to their new landscape/conditions in order to survive. This is somewhat similar to the history of the Cham in Chau Doc Province, who emigrated west (into/towards Khmer lands) during Vietnamese conquest of their kingdom of Champa (which occurred between 1460s-1830s).

    According to historians, protracted border wars between the Chinese and the Cham people had continued for many centuries. China had many times attempted to invade and occupy Kingdom of Champa. To survive, the Cham and Vietnamese people united together as one army standing up against the Chinese invaders. And again, they came together to protect their country Vietnam against other foreign invaders in the 20th century. Vietnam is a multiethnic country with 54 distinct minorities, including Cham people. They always unite together defending their homeland against all foreign invaders.

      Cham-Vietnamese War (1471)
      On November 28,[6] 1470, Le Thanh Tong formally launched his attack as a 100,000-strong Vietnamese naval expedition set out that day, followed by another Vietnamese army consisting of 150,000 men on December 8.[7]
      The Vietnamese army was reorganized to copy the Chinese army, armed with gunpowder weapons. Le Thanh Tong raised a total of 300,000-strong army in the battlefield and, significantly outnumbering the 100,000-strong Cham army. This came at a massive financial cost since it drained the Vietnamese treasury of 1,000 gold liang each day.[8] However, it decisively won the war.
      The Vietnamese conducted a *genocide campaign* against the Cham, slaughtering 60,000 when taking the capital. The Vietnamese committed arson and theft and burned massive parts of Champa, seizing the entire country.
      *The Cham representatives told the Ming Empire that "Annam destroyed our country".* The Chinese Ming Dynasty records contain the extent of the Vietnamese destruction wrought on Champa. The Vietnamese enslaved several thousand Chams and enacted forced assimilation of Vietnamese culture onto Chams. The number included 50 members of the royal family.[9] The Chams informed the Ming that they continued to fight against the Vietnamese occupation of their land, which had been turned into the 13th province of Đại Việt.[10]
      The Champa kingdom was destroyed by the invasion, leaving small rump states which lasted until 1832, when emperor Minh Mang initiated the final conquest of the remnants of Champa. The Vietnamese ceramics trade was severely affected due to impact suffered by the Cham merchants after the invasion.[11] The Ming scholar Wu Pu (吳樸) recommended that to help stop the Vietnamese, Ming should help resuscitate the Champa Kingdom.[12]
      The Ming Empire sent a censor, Ch'en Chun, to Champa in 1474 to install the Champa King, but his entry was blocked by Vietnamese soldiers who had taken over Champa. He proceeded to Malacca instead and its ruler sent back tribute to the Ming dynasty[13].Malacca sent envoys again in 1481 to inform the Ming that while going back to Malacca in 1469 from a trip to China, the Vietnamese attacked them, castrating the young and enslaving them. The Malaccans reported that Đại Việt was in control of Champa and sought to conquer Malacca, but the Malaccans did not fight back due to lack of permission from the Ming to engage in war. The Ming Emperor scolded them, ordering the Malaccans to strike back with violent force if the Vietnamese attacked.[14][15]
      Only a small Cham kingdom remained in the south but this did not persist. Around 162,000 Cham remain in Vietnam today.[16]
      The victory allowed the Đại Việt a period of stability since it united the north under the Trinh dynasty. It also allowed the kingdom to consolidate its power in its later conflict with the Nguyen family that ruled the south.
      tl;dr Are you Vietnamese or Champa? Vietnamese are the reason of their mass exodus from their homeland, and being subject to vietnamisation after conquest.

    • @sgcl10658
      @sgcl10658 4 роки тому +3

      Why do ppl argue over this? All you have to do is Google Champa kingdom. Champa had long history of conflicts with Khmer empire and Dai Viet kingdom. Champa did have marriage alliance with Dai Viet but never lasted long. Cham were known for surprised attacks and looting. Vietnam attacked backed and wiped them out. Vietnam was wrong, but Champa was not innocent either. Champa once attacked Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.

The Chams that embrace Muslim done it mainly in confusion and convienience; like most Vietnamese we lost our true tradition because of wars and ravages of time. If one was to seriously take religious life into account , one should investigate, question, explore. when I observed the Catholic religion, I had alot of questions and confusion, I felt like a fish out of water. Through my inquisitiveness and blessing from God, I found my true religion that agree with my soul and spirit. To me Islam if too confining to the soul and offer no real path towards enlightenment, only rituals and a confusing book. Indonesians, Malaysians, and Bruneians love the Chams, Khmer Islam, and the rest of Cambodian peoples. We never forget our relatives there. May Allah Bless All The Khmer Islam with healthiness, serenity, wealth, and happiness. And keep them all under His protection from any kinds of Heinous Fitnah and prejudice. Amin Ya Robbal Alamin. 😊🌈
