I have had cats all my life and my final conclusion of why they are so brave, is because they are completely nuts! Loveable, but absolutely batshit crazy. Don't get me wrong. My cats have always been people friendly, but when chaos happens, they are ready to throw down and battle. Even if their foe happens to be 10x their size. I love these crazy cooters!

Your answer is more believable to me than all those grovelling comments. Cats are prey animals. They are not at the top of the food chain but somewhere in the middle. Cats way of warding off predators is by trying their best to prove that its not worth the pain and effort. Unfortunately some times a coyote is simply too hungry and there is no easier game around.

I wouldn't call it bravery, I would call it confidence.
Cats are ridiculously overpowered and they know it.

@@the-world-of-cats-meow I also enjoyed this info found via UA-cam: Seems it was decided by evolution that certain wild cats needed to be giants because they live mainly solitary, except for the African lion. By the same token, there are no gigantic dogs because canids' natural tendency to pack memberships was their continuing advantage. Our loving domesticated cats are never totally tame, and can activate the most amazing physical superpowers when they see fit to!

They're definitely _not_ "overpowered". Bears are overpowered. Cats have light bones, and sharp but relatively fragile teeth. They make up for it with speed, agility, and very sharp claws.

My mother had a kitten named Figaro who confronted a goose. But when he was an adult, when I put a caterpillar on the concrete front porch rail in front of him, he salivated, took several steps back, jumped off the railing and ran away.

I walked around a large tree and came face to face with the neighbor's large dog. Planning to slowly back away, I hadn't taken a step when suddenly Ollie appeared on the left side of the dog. Minion was on the right side. Tommy-O was in front. The dog continued to bark and bare his teeth.
Then Tommy-O lunged. The dog turned, running away. Tommy-O gave chase. A while later, he sauntered back, a very pleased expression on his face. No body messes with the boys Mom.

Adult male lions are usually loners. Male brothers will stay together occasionally. Female lions are much more social and hang out together. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

My male cat was a real "scaredy cat" but the Female (his sibling) was formidable.

Lol My male is ascared of strangers and my females are not. But, when push comes to shove, my male will jump to the front lines and face the enemy in the blink of an eye. My females are always conducting traffic and constantly keeping and eye on things and keeping the unwanted away, but if things get hairy, my boy takes over, even though he is timid at times.

@@MrJiggerG My ginger male rushed into the house one day making a strange "Ururlurulu" sound. It must have been an alarm call, because my female leapt up and ran outside. I followed and found her beating the spit out of a ginger male on the shed roof, in the middle of a cloud of ginger fur. I grabbed her and put her indoors and went to check her victim. He was rolling casually on the shed, apparently none the worse for the experience, as if to say "Females, what can you do with 'em?"
As I came back to the house, I saw my female in the window beating the spit out of MY ginger male, in a cloud of ginger fur, as if to say "YOU should have done that!" or perhaps "If I can't get THAT ginger male, I'll get THIS one!"
She didn't like strange cats, and particularly hated ginger ones. She was OK (normally) to my ginger male though. They both came from a litter consisting of my tortoiseshell female and tree ginger males of which she was the runt, which may explain her aggression towards ginger cats in particular. As a kitten she probably had to fight for her share of anything
Once as kittens, they were drinking some special cat milk from a bowl. She was lapping gently and as usual he was lapping at a hundred miles an hour. I saw her look at him as if to say "He's going to get more than me!" Then she pushed her muzzle right into the milk and sucked. The level of it went down to almost nothing in an instant and she walked away looking smug licking her muzzle clean, as he looked up in amazement as if to say "What the.....where did it all go?"

And they're very humorous. I've had two of 'em the first was a stray which lived 21yrs. multiple sets of kittens, until surgery ate human food, and acted more human than any animal I've seen, a fierce Mother and very large for a female, seen her whip huge dogs. Viva, la Princess, 74-93.

All species of cat have the same skills. From the common Felis catus to the big cats, they all have the same skills and behaviours. Cats that roar can’t purr, a domestic cat, if not socialized or having no positive contact with a human before 8 weeks of age, will, in most cases, remain feral. They’re all fascinating mammals and I’ve had cats in my life since I was born. My current feline was the offspring of a feral mom. She was rescued at about 9-10 weeks. She’s my constant companion, but on her terms. I can’t pick her up. She comes to me. She won’t approach my friends until they’re sitting down and quiet. When the doorbell rings, she runs to the living room and watches from around a corner, hiding until she checks out the invader. Not 100% tame, but not quite feral either. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

Cats are tribal and do things for the group. On our farm, cats would catch a rabbit and bring it home to share. That is not the practice of a solitary animal. Cats hunt alone because that is their skill. They don't hunt animals much bigger than themselves as that is very difficult for a single hunter.
Cats are strong, determined, with quick reflexes. Seeing a cat that has dragged a rabbit half a mile shows strength and determination. In the morning, we often found a dead rabbit on our lawn. These were caught during the night by a tomcat and left there for the tribe. There is a hunting sex roles. Females during the day and males at night. Not a fixed rule but preferred.

House cats are very afraid lol, thats where "scaredy cat" comes from. Its only once they realize theres nothing to fear that they gain confidence, but they usually wont even run outside if you hold the door open for them because theyre scared of outside. Dogs are the opposite
