  • Anne Emerson, Charlie Condon and Drew Tripp recap an important day in court ahead of Alex Murdaugh's upcoming evidentiary hearing on controversial jury tampering allegations.
    Alex Murdaugh's defense team entered the ring throwing haymakers in a pre-hearing status conference on January 16th, hoping to bludgeon open a clear path to a retrial in Murdaugh's murder case. But retired South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal, the newly appointed judge on the case, parried and rebuffed Murdaugh's ambitious volleys in stunning and decisive fashion. Now Murdaugh's opening to land the decisive blow against his dual murder convictions and life sentence appears vanishingly small.

    You guys seem like you feel sorry for team Murdaugh. I don’t believe he will be granted a retrial, and frankly I don’t think he deserves it. He was given a fair trial and was found guilty by all 12 jurors in short order. Justice Toal is handling based on law, not based on the public opinion or the manipulation of the defense team. They have played the game, and I believe they will lose big! Y’all were one of my favorites during the trial, but somewhere y’all have changed teams. Alex Murdaugh is a convicted double murderer and a self proclaimed and convicted thief!!!! He doesn’t deserve your sympathy, he is exactly where he belongs!

    Alex Murdaugh should be in prison for the rest of his life-, or worse, for what he has done. I certainly hope that his lawyers don't finagle his way out of that. The damage and evil he has done is incalculable.

      Why? To keep the ‘protected class’ protected.. that’s why. Imagine if ‘the people’ demanded accountability of the corrupt systems (everywhere), that Murdaugh trial/ crimes have exposed. Hmmm

    • @maureenbrown6697
      @maureenbrown6697 8 місяців тому +1

      @@irisramsey62 There was a lot of publicity for the defense attorneys involved in the case. To the extent that they're now known on a national level. I'd imagine keeping this saga going is of some benefit to their law practice and/or political career. That might be the motivation if Alex Murdaugh can no longer afford their services.
      I do agree there isn't much to be proud of in representing a man who stole from vunerable clients, friends, colleagues & even his own brother. And then what he did to his wife & son. I understand that's it's part of a defense attorney's job to advocate for & defend the client. Being vocally proud to do so says a lot about their character or the lack thereof. The defense attorneys aren't stupid. They saw the evidence & understood exactly what, or I should say who it implicated.

    Judge Hunter Carroll from Florida did the process the same way. He laid out what he wanted from defense and plaintiff. What areas of questioning of the juror HE would ask, then if further review was necessary, he took the questions provided by Attorneys on both sides if any, and did his hearing process exactly as he should have. So, I dont understand why everyone seems to be shocked. This is NOT a trial and Becky Hill is the defendant, this is what happened DURING the trial and DID it affect the Deliberating Jurors verdict if any . She was amazing i thought.

I mean come on this Judge is absolutely spot on with this witch hunt. Prove this tampering or you are wasting courts time and money. She sees the arrogance of Dick Harpootlian and his theatrics have no place in her court. Love her professionalism and rule of law.
