Any psychologist who owns and loves a standard poodle must be a GREAT doctor. Those dogs are unbelievably intelligent! Too bad a poodle wasn't one of the dogs. He/she may have figured out how to save those two poor souls.

AM never once expressed anger, fear or urgency in finding who killed his wife and son - to me, that’s one of the most telling signs of guilt combined with his bad acting… the forcing of a show of emotion. How horrific this entire case has been. I think Maggie knew he was capable of doing this and I do think he lured her there.
Can you imagine leaving for 40 (or so he said) minutes and returning to your family slaughtered? I would be scared to death that the killers were still on the grounds.

At first I was thinking he assumed Paul did it to himself then maggie.
He went got shot gun for protection after he found all he kept saying they did them wrong which I believe he was talking about someone mad hated them from boat wreck ,or from all people he stole from .

He lured Maggie there. So while it might not be totally planned out, it was planned. I still think that money and pressure was behind it, because if Alex had enough funds to draw upon, he could have cleared out some of the money troubles plaguing him. Killing Paul took out the 30 mill judgment against Paul. Killing Maggie gave access to a possible 6 mill of property.
Yes, I agree. As Alex HIMSELF said, “whoever did this had been planning it for a long time”. They give his intelligence too much credit; it was possibly planned not long after the boat house incident. Evidently he hated Paul, I do not buy he loved Paul but loved himself more. Not for a second. What he didn’t include in his plan was the phone evidence and the amazing evidence by the car company- he was ignorant to both. I’m a bit astonished and disappointed they think this wasn’t planned to precision. Even Mark Tinsley has stated he gave AM a chance to remove Maggie from equation 12 months ago. He chose not to because he knew what was in store - and it would all become his. Think Chris Watts, no different. No love.

It was planned. He had to think of what he was going to say, he had to plan that he was gonna go to his mothers, dispose of guns, change etc. these are things you don’t think to do right after you kill your own wife and son.

Thank you for telling everyone in detail about our SLED and Law Enforcement and the great job you all did. I really was angry at Dick Harpootlian’s comments and criticisms of the state. I personally thought he should have been reprimanded for pointing a gun at The Prosecutor’s and smiling and saying’ Tempting’. Who does that except him and gets by with it. ⚖️

That moment Poot pointed the rifle and made the very inappropriate comment was thee most cringeworthy thing I've ever seen happen during a murder (by gun) trial.
And he is a SC Senator!
That was the nuttiest thing I have ever witnessed! He was the most unprofessional lawyer of all those present during the entire trial. How he got voted into office as a Senator is beyond me!
Pointing the gun in the courtroom was really not ok. He should loose his license. I’m surprised the judge didn’t reprimand him. No way was that funny. Double murder due to shooting and Poot is waving a gun around in a full courtroom??? WTAF! In what world should that EVER be ok??
These agents are the best and are the kind of people we want standing guard over our cities, our families and us. SC has some very awesome agents and I know they're proud of them.

Thank you for putting this out. This case fascinated me to no end. A father that could do that to his own son, the family dynamic going on is hard to fathom.
People like Alex Murdaugh are rarely born that way. They are created by their caregivers (or lack of caregivers). It takes some real bad inputs, especially in the first 3 years of life, to twist someone that thoroughly.
It was not spontaneous. Like he told his sister-in-law, “someone had been planning this for a long time”.
So Alex isn’t a liar? You can’t trust a single thing a compulsive liar says, he could’ve been saying that because he knew it wasn’t pre meditated and it’s consistent with his theory that it was because of the boat incident.
@Jordan samuel He obviously is a liar. The problem he created for himself was over planning his alibi and talking too much. He had to change his story over and over. He wasn't there, till the video came out. He had an hour nap to maybe he fell asleep for a minute. Etc... Even liars tell the truth sometimes., like when he said it was planned for a long time.

I can't imagine these poor people working all those extra hours, for months and months, doing the best they could, and then hearing Alex's counsel put them down. The nerve! So glad the judge allowed SLED Captain to have a say at the sentencing.
I believe these 3 LE officers are locals of the Collerton Sheriff's office.
I can listen for hours to these awesome agents who did such great work to put this man behind prison bars! What a nice people, much respect for them!

It is reassuring to hear from such intelligent and professional police officers. Too many people watch NCIS and think that it is real. One thing we know about TV is that it is not real. These guys did the best job that could have done under such challenging circumstances. Bravo.

I think one of the main things that point to pre meditation is that his phone was off/inactive for quite awhile just before and during the crime. - He is a heavy phone user as testified by his family and colleagues - he admitted he lied about the nap - no reason for his phone to conveniently be inactive until he needed it to be active again to support his alibi of going to his moms'.

I hate that they act like this wasn’t premeditated. He lured both of them there and within 30 minutes of Maggie’s arrival she was dead. He had his phone off because he always intended to say he was asleep when they were murdered. Come on. Stop being obtuse.

He may not have thought it out all the way, but I do believe before Maggie and Paul arrives at moselle, he had planned to kill them that night. He had been thinking about it for a while. Maybe not exactly how he was going to do it, but certainly that he would be better off if they were dead & didn’t know about what had gone on at
The office that day. Why did he and Paul ride around the property? For one last memory with him before he kills him.
@@AmeliasMiMi I think he was going to do it when they were riding around and it didn't work out. That's why he did it at the kennels.
Alex himself said in court that “whoever did this thought about it for a long time” smmhhhh totally premeditated!
They didn't say it wasn't premeditated. They said they don't know for sure.
Really wonderful that you gave the investigators their say. They were very professional and never deserved the censure shaded at them!

MOTIVE: Money.
They both were going to cost AM alot of money. Paul through the lawsuit and Maggie through the divorce.

This interview, especially part two, has been so fantastic and enlightening. As one of the many people who have followed this case since the beginning, I really appreciate these good people filling in the gaps for us. It absolutely cements my belief in Murdaughs guilt. In addition to this video, I found his jail phone calls incredibly telling. Alex displays a lot of guilty behavior, no concern for finding any vigilante killers, and you can hear what he really cares about. Money, power and manipulating people. Thank goodness for these folks integrity. I love how this team supported David Owen. He was carrying such a heavy burden. Owen was instrumental in this conviction. SLED actually did an excellent job.

The very first moment that proved to me he was guilty is when the authorities arrived and he started explaining about the boat case with out the questions started from the authorities. It's just common sense.
This is the best interview I’ve heard yet. They did a great job on this case.
As far as premeditation goes, he definitely lured Maggie there with the promise that Paul would be there too. It occurred to me watching this that perhaps he knew that Paul would end up going to jail or prison for what he had done and he decided that Paul would be so unhappy there, so he performed a mercy-killing on him. I think he was intensely angry at Maggie... perhaps he had heard that she was seeking a divorce and found out that she hired a forensic accountant to look into his finances. The whole family is angry with the victims in this case, or else they would have erected a proper stone for their graves.

I think it could have make him crazy because not wearing your wedding ring can give your spouse a feeling of ‘this seems defined, she really ment it when she said she want a divorce’ ….
He could have had still hope but noticing the ring not on her finger anymore, he could have had understand that all was lost, my marriage is really over!

This was not a mercy killing. It would have cost millions to defend PM. He wanted that case to go away for his own purposes.

I agree TOTALLY with u!! I thought the same thing!! He knew Paul was going to end up doing some kind of time in jail and he knew Paul wouldn't he able to handle that! And Maggie was about to find out about all his stealing and that he was about to be in terrible money trouble and he already knew Maggie didn't want to be with him anymore so it was a 2 for 1! He is Disgusting!!
I agree also. I read somewhere that AFTER the boating accident, Maggie not only knew that Paul was drinking in public, she liked his photos on Facebook while out drinking. I think alex blamed Maggie for his behavior.

Why was Alex allowed to call all those people-down thereto contaminate the scene, and the house ? Alex was trying to mess with the evidence. Alex was allowed to walk over the entire place while he talked on the phone.
I’m really thankful for this interview because yes, there was an attempt to put doubt in the way the crime scene was handled. These folks are the best of the best and did an excellent job. I was so impressed with pretty much all of witnesses for the prosecution. It’s probably because they were telling the truth.
In a lot of the police camera footage, you see Alex and his brother in the background, walking back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... Alex was destroying the crime scene from minute 1. And since he had such privilege and clout, he was allowed to move about freely.
@@lastjob2011 it was such a blatant attempt to foul the investigation; walking all over the crime scene. It was obvious the called everyone they could to gather at property.
@@Faretheewell608 This would have been a perfect Columbo episode. And the lieutenant would have busted him using Bubba and that Snapchat video! There is no such thing as a perfect murder, because you cannot control everything.
I believe Alex planned this for months. But he didn't plan on Bubba with a chicken, at the exact same time Paul was making a video, two minutes before Alex killed him.
I think you are wrong about the murders not planned. He called Maggie early in the day for her and Paul to come to Moselle. He chose to use two guns to make it look like there were two shooters. His alibi was manufactured in advance.
I agree…6 months earlier, he surprised Mallory Beach’s atty…the atty gave AM the option of removing Maggie from the suit and going after exclusively AM if AM were to give him the financial records…he wanted to drop Maggie from the suit, and thought that would be decent leverage against Alex and that that would induce Alex to disclose and settle and keep Maggie out of it…AM refused. This surprised the atty at the time…what good husband wouldn’t want to protect his wife? Her equitable shares of the properties would have been protected from suit and AM’s assets would be toast…only Alex goes down. So Alex threw out a counter offer and told the atty that he could maybe scrounge up another million but that he was ‘broke’ and Tinsley said no, that he wanted $10 million (seems a bit greedy but not to the family of the woman who died via negligent behavior). At that point, Alex should have taken the bait and settled for the $10 million and absolved Maggie…the fact that he did not points us to this: this is when Alex began his premeditation to dispose of the lawsuit (by eliminating his wife and kid, the source of the suits). This is the epiphany Tinsley had at the time he was testifying. Tinsley threatened to burn Alex’ house down figuratively speaking during this financial negotiation 6 mo’s before the heinous act whereby Alex burned his own house down by annihilating his family. He probably resorted to this extreme measure because he didn’t have $10 million and/or he was too greedy to even conceive of giving Tinsley that amount of settlement, personally from his own assets. We now know, Alex was used to stealing it.. Nonetheless, Alex was desperately trying to get Tinsley to back off of forcing Alex to disclose financial records from Bank of America. Alex had set up an acct at Bank of America under the fake name Forge. There was a real Forge account but it was at a different bank and controlled by another entity. Alex was stealing funds from the firm but he was disguising it as fees to the Forge account which the firm thought were legit…but they instead were going to the fake Forge account where Alex was stealing it. The motion to compel Alex and Bank of America to disclose all accounts with AM’s name on them was scheduled to be heard on June 10, 2021…Tinsley was just looking for money, show me the money, but had no idea what those accounts stood to expose: years of embezzlement, theft and fraud by Alex to his own firm and clients. So there was no way Alex was going to allow the Beach lawsuit to continue..he had to make that lawsuit go away by hook or by crook. Further, during that same week, the AM’s firm was expecting to receive atty’s fees in the amount of $792,000 from Chris Wilson’s office. Chris had cut the check direct to Alex on Alex’s word that it was ok with the firm…stupid and costly mistake by Chris. Alex cashed it and spent it. When Alex’s firm asked Alex where it was, Alex lied and assured CFO that Chris Wilson still had the funds and the check too. On June 7, the CFO confronts Alex and says prove it..that Chris has the money…Alex takes the call about dad dying and CFO falls back. At 4pm, premeditating an alibi, Alex calls and asks the CFO for her to gather his 401k paperwork presumably for the Beach lawsuit hearing coming up on 10th, that he knew he wasn’t going to attend. Then Alex calls Chris Wilson and says hey there’s a hiccup…ima have to give that 792,000 back to you, except I only got 600K (from a loan Alex managed to scrounge up), can you spot me the 192k and I’ll give it back to you later. So Chris is like hmmm, okay I guess…so he takes the $600k and puts in back in escrow then Chris puts 192k of his own money into escrow and cuts a check again for $792k but this time to the right firm. Alex now owes him 192k and Chris isn’t feeling it. Then Alex commits heinous act June 7…Tinsley lawsuit settles for $500k; Chris Wilson stops pressing him for money; and Alex’s firm stops pressing him for answers…and when the firm received the 792k from Wilson, they thought well it confirms what Alex said that Chris had it all along so they let it go. Then in October when the CFO is getting ready for end of year record gathering and numbers reconciliation, she decides to search how many times Alex had diverted funds to the Forge account…at that time she realized it was multiples times and to a fake Forge account to boot…they gathered the executives and fired Alex while he is still a widower that same day…the next day Alex commits the fake suicide for hire and the rest is history.
I understand your point. I feel like he " thought" about it " for a long time" as AM said himself.. But I think he hit his boiling point.. i dont feel it was planed for that time.
I guess we need to define “planned”. I believe he DEF planned it from the moment his accountant confronted him at work. From there he lured M/P to Moselle and waited for the perfect moment where Paul was away from the dogs and Maggie and even better yet- cornered in the feed shed, then he took his shot. He planned it out REALLY well but like any narcissist, is sloppy on certain areas because they think they’re too damn smart to get caught. Like, not having ANY blood on him but he touched their bodies and trampled through their blood? He left Paul’s phone which was risky, but he took Maggie’s then chucked it when he realized it was tracking him. He had the jacket/tarp and washed off near the kennels so he wouldn’t track blood into the house. He really thought it thru. Just not 100% through.

Family annihilators are known to see their family members as extensions of themselves rather than as individuals, so they have a twisted logic to their thinking when their lives are coming apart. They can convince themselves that death is a better fate for their family than the shame and disrepute that is coming. Except they make an exception for their own sorry asses, and try to figure a way out for themselves.
Yep.. It's hard for the average person to understand this but this statement is accurate. I believe that Alex had also convinced himself that his wife and Paul were in some ways responsible for his life unraveling and like narcissists do, he had mentally discarded them a while before he killed them. He no longer saw them as a benefit to his life. Paul was causing trouble and possibly exposure to his larger problems and Maggie wasn't satisfied with the life he provided and wanted a new home elsewhere, possibly feeling like she wanted to mimic the lifestyle of her sister and brother in law who were reportedly far wealthier than Alex. Also, Maggie's shame about what he'd been doing would make him angry so he wanted to eliminate that. It's complex but fairly simple when you understand how narcissists operate.
Absolutely and who knows the recent conversations Alex and Maggie had! He could easily say "Mags would have been devastated to realize she had been right all along about the money and the pills. I wanted to spare her that pain."
Of course it's obscene, but narcissists have to say something to justify their heinous actions.
Wasn't Paul still facing a potential 30 year sentence? If he felt like Paul would be convinced he could have convinced himself that he was saving his son from that fate.

I think this is exactly why he murdered them. He didn’t want Paul they have to spend 30 years in prison for the boat accident and he didn’t want Maggie to have to live without money.
When the male detective was asking "where were the guns, where were the bloody clothes?" it reminded me of hearing that you can tell when someone else is involved in a drug overdose death: when the areas around the victim are void of drugs/needles/etc., in other words, cleaned up too much.
I believe Alex meticulously planned this, even digging a hole days prior. After the killings, he stripped naked used the hose to get all blood off of him, used golf cart and buried the guns, bloody clothes and shoes in the hole.
Not a smart man..nor fan of true crime..
@@lastjob2011I think Alex DID think about it for a long time beforehand. He planned it out & I too think he dug a hole in advance to dispose of the weapons, clothes, shoes, etc. It's possible Alex wore the blue rain coat over his clothes or used the hose to quickly wash off after (those 282 steps his phone tracked) IMO, Alex also got off the 911 call & then called his family, friends, neighbor & housekeeper over to the Moselle crime scene to contaminate it & ruin any trace evidence. Who does that after finding their family gunned down?!? It's not logical or normal.
He never believed that LE would look at him seriously as a suspect or they'd take him at his word because of his name & connections in that area of SC. Alex had means, motive & opportunity. He set it up. He did it.
Technology was the nail in his coffin. I bet Alex wishes he'd have taken Paul's cell phone & tossed it somewhere in the adjacent woods too. In a way Alex would've been better off just killing himself than taking the lives of his wife & son because Alex's life is effectively over.

Interesting how they gave so much attention to contaminating a scene..but Alec miraculously stayed perfectly clean after having tried to turn Paul and messing with Maggie several times (per AM testimony)..and that barely got any attention
Darn! I wanted to know what these folks thought about every friend and family member Alex had showing up to the crime scene. Wouldn't that have added issues to the investigation? Why would Alex call not only his brothers but all his law partners and they nearly all showed up? I thought that was odd.
Did they talk about that in Part 1?

I think it was premeditated, because he luren Maggie to Moselle and he locked his phone between 8 and 9. Why would he do that when he normally uses his phone all the time and his father is dying so he could get a call anytime?
For the hour nap that kept shrinking to fit his changing story. You are right.
So insightful. Thank you for sharing all your thoughts on the investigation. It gives us a clearer picture on how things really were done rather than the defenses picture of how they wanted it portrayed to us, especially preservation of the crime scene.

"you can pay someone, an expert, to say anything." Gosh, how profound!
An “expert” was paid to testify on my behalf at great cost. Her report was a stock report she changed the name and some details. I read the report after it was completed and billed thousands for. Another persons name showed up a few times instead of mine and many other details were wrong. It disgusted me. I had to cross off many things, fill in proper info and give back to my Lawyer.

For the investigators, one point that Harpootlian seemed not to grasp is that juries will tend to believe the version of events that most closely conforms to the available evidence. Harpootlian's story was pretty fantastic in places and made moat of the rest difficult to believe.
Poot is well past his sell buy date. His sexism is so objectionable. I don’t care if he’s the last D in the SC state house, he needs to GO!

Great interview and great team. Thank you for all you have to process and remain in control and keep your partners safe till other help arrived. I cannot fathom the gruesome horror seeing what a family member that was so enraged. It was overkill.. I feel so sad for Maggie's sister. I hope she is not blaming herself. Maggie would never want her sister to be so hurt and disillusioned. He fooled so many and played the pity card. At least you sisters had a heart full of compassion unlike Alex. No one could have foreseen this coming. My heart goes out to all the family and victims. ❤
You three did an excellent job! I don't have the stomach for crime scenes but I sure was tuned in to this trial. I could tell by his demeanor he was guilty...just how he acted, turned the crying on and off (no tears), and his family is lying there dead and his first concern is the boat case and he was so matter of fact...no emotion...that family has no emotion...didn't see it with Buster. John was more hurt and emotional on the stand than Alex. Felt badly for him cleaning up the crime scene.

Yes, it’s impressive they got him off the streets and had time to build their case. I agree, it happened faster than most circumstantial cases. They did awesome!!

My only heartfelt appeal is for each detective - especially Daniel Greene - to be given the opportunity to freely talk about their personal and professional obsevations without limiting prompts. These experienced first responders - individually and coleectively - have more valuable insight to share IMO
