  • This video is a total rebuild of a Tecumseh snowblower carburetor. Some of the steps do not always need to be taken, if your carburetor just needs a simple cleaning. However, the following steps will allow you to completely clean and rebuild your carburetor to make the machine run like new!

    Another very important item to check is the atmospheric pressure vent hole. It is a very small hole that needs to be clean and clear to prevent leaking from the carb upon assembly. You can find a quick video here: ua-cam.com/video/5QGQnJGYPGw/v-deo.html

    well.
    i have a 2005 lawn-boy 10685 that was running poorly, so in 2022 after reading a bit and watching vids on youtube i thought it would be easier to just buy a aftermarket carb.
    no. it lasted 1 year before it wouldn't prime or hold idle. found a used carb and purchased the rebuild kit you mentioned; yes, a used carb and kit was 2x the price of the aftermarket carb i purchased. but it doesn't work, so where is the savings?
    vids like this make it easy to sit at your kitchen table and just go one step at a time, learn something like what parts do what, and fix it. got questions? rewind, review or post in comments.easy peasey.
    so, in the mean time, i put the original 640350 carb back on after spraying it out with carb spray so i can still use the mower (primer bulb not working, squirt bottle with gas solves that) while i rebuild the other one. so, then i can just swap them when i finish the rebuild and hopefully my rebuild will make it like "new" again. if not, start over and find my error.
    one more thing; the new kit comes with new needle and hinge spring and it occured to me the old spring can be used to clean out vent holes and such.
    bend it anyway you need to make it work, it's been replaced so it's now trash, right?
    but now it can be a specialy tool and be given new use.
    great video, sir.

    A small drill press with a stop on the downward travel would be good to drill a hole in the Welch plug.

    Nice video KB. Very good camera work and narration sir! I like the tip with the nail polish and i will be taking that tip and putting it to use in the future. Probably would be a good idea to do that on a carb that you don't even take the plug out but just for a little piece of mind. As a flipper since i retired, i see plenty of clogged and dirty carbs. Thats usually the biggest problems i run into on machines. I always enjoy your videos! 🇺🇸👍Roger

    The needle hinge pin assembly for the float....- does it matter which direction the pin is hung on the float
    Tabs? I couldn't tell which way you placed it. I'm currently playing around with a 1980s Sears Gamefisher 7.5Hp boat motor.
    Upon removing the carb and opening
    The bowl the needle fell out. I had intended to snap a picture but fumbled. It is a tecumseh carb.
    Thank you.

    Sealing the Welch plug sounds like a good idea, but it may be attacked by gasoline or different fuel treatments. Maybe some loctite would be better.

    • @rozco1978
      @rozco1978 2 роки тому +1

      No nail polish is what you want to use. Gas doesn't effect it

      Loctite only works when there is an absence of air. To put it on the outside of the Welch plugs as a sealer it wouldn’t dry.

    Nice video not sure how I feel about the nail polish I wonder how it would make servicing it in the future or if the nail polish or if someone used nail polish remover would act on the aluminum. Also I think there's a screen under that plastic 90 fuel inlet that should be part of regular maintenance. Donyboy has covered it alot

    • @kbssmallenginerepair2615
      @kbssmallenginerepair2615  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your feedback. I'm pretty sure the polish would come off with carb cleaner, or you could just scrape it off if you needed to. It is not that thick. As to the fuel screen, that would definitely be an item to check, especially if that carb has been sitting and is really gummed up. However for a simple clean/rebuild I don't feel it would be necessary to remove (therefore having to replace) the elbow just to check it.

      @@kbssmallenginerepair2615 I just worry about it getting between the Welch plug and where it sits. I'm sure its probably overshooting and overthinking it and I'm sure carb spray will do the trick it was just a thought. I never heard or saw anything like it being done so I guess next time you go to remove one you'll update us and let us know lol. I double checked donyboys videos and he had it on power more series and they were metal so he was able to grasp it with vice grips and twist and pull it out and reinstall it. He said they don't leak but he was using a loctite sealing compound. It was just a thought and the rest of the carb did look clean but those silly screens are magnets for debris

      Nail polish remover is mostly acetone which is also a major ingredient of carb cleaner. It's not likely to hurt anything.

      There are a lot of options out there depending on how much you use it, how big you need it etc. I use mine almost daily, and I have the one from Harbor Freight. It is not the nicest, or the largest, but for the price (and with the protection plan) it has worked well for me. It burned up at about 20 months, and I took it in and got a new one with another 2 years on in. Still going strong. I can put 3-4 carburetors and its guts in it.
