People say they like 3rd semester Akechi better than previous Akechi, but imo, it's the contrast between Pleasant Boy Akechi and sassy Akechi that makes it so fun.

honestly 3rd semester Akechi made him one of my favorite characters in this game. His outright refusal to live in Maruki's false reality despite it being his only chance at survival, his very funny nav lines and his murderous demeanor in combat just made him a very fun and interesting character.
He doesn't die when things go back to normal, zzz.

I just love this new Akechi, better to say, this real Akechi. I take him every night to the jazz club and he actually sims to trust joker and not actually hate him as he said before. Lovely.
He never really hated him, it was more like Akechi was trying to convince himself he did. Sure, there's a healthy amount of envy, spite, insecurity, and a need to prove that he's better than Akira; but there's also a lot of complicated feelings. A need to compete with/challenge eachother, a level of trust and understanding that they never really address but you can tell it's there (even after everything), Akechi's tendency to direct questions at Akira in order to hear his opinions/thoughts, the implication that Akechi's powers as a wildcard were stunted because Akira is his only confidant-- things of that nature.
No matter how you perceive their relationship (platonically, friendly, romantically, problematically, or just rivals, etc etc.) you have to admit it's incredibly intriguing, and has a certain depth you never really get to see with the other thieves. His overhauled confidant (and character, really) in Royal was one of the best decisions Atlus has ever made. Made me appreciate Akechi as a character -- rather than seeing him as your everyday irredeemable villain -- as well as the connection he has with Akira, despite everything.

He's so self aware in the 3rd semester. You can tell he's genuinely in the mindset of "these are my last days on alive, so I refuse to waste a single moment"

Apparently the art team suggested Akechi have new portraits in the 3rd Semester. Thank God they did. Could you imagine this convo with his Pancake Prince portraits?

So in this reality Shido only goes to jail because of attempting to overthrow the government. He knew nothing about the cognitive psience so he didnt steal it from Maruki. Therefore he didnt have Wakaba developed it. Also since he didnt know about cognitive psience, even when Akechi came to offer hitman service he wouldnt accept because he thought Akechi was crazy”. So that explains why Wakaba and Okumura are alive. Also shows why Akechi was released and is a free man. joker didnt get arrested because probably the Phantom Thieves only changed Kamoshida’s heart and along with some requests in the Phansite. Thats why i notice their popularity in the Phansite vote is around 10-15% (the same amount after finish Kamoshida’s palace)
Not to mention Kamoshida doesnt seem to get brought up at all during the 3rd semester with some fixed life so odds are hes still locked up like Shido
Original Gameteer i think i misinterpreted that they did change Kamoshida’s heart. During the conversation with Ann and Shiho in the 3rd semester, they never once mentioned Kamoshida. Looks like he didnt even work at Shujin to begin with. So basically the Phantom Thieves only did the requests on Phan Site

MetalX4473 not sure about Kaneshiro... but Madarame is supposed to be a good sensei. Thats why when you go to the gallery Yusuke said that its due Madarame’s patronage that the Sayuri got its recognition.

Everyone's talking about Akechi and Joker, but I'm just focused on Morgana vibing tf out on the couch
The third semester is amazingly well done in so many ways. Joker’s interactions with Akechi and Sumire and the palace itself (especially the stuff you got to see in the videos about Maruki’s past) were incredible. Maruki was a really interesting character all around. The only criticisms I really have about this arc are minor nitpicks, being that the Adam Kadmon is just a scripted fight (which, to be fair, the Izanami True Form fight in P4G was also scripted so not too surprising) and Sumire’s showtime is too easy to miss. But all in all it’s still amazingly well done all around

My friend hates Maruki's palace and anything to do with the 3rd semester and while I respect opinions I don't understand why or how. It's so well done! I have to do a 3rd playthrough because I wanna finish up the Thieves Den and I'm so sad that I have to play through the vanilla way to end my time with Royal off. I love that they allowed Akechi to be his true self and be super bloodthirsty, ruthless, and just an all over snarky asshole 😂 Maruki and Sumire are such interesting characters and I was surprised with the way they tied in to each other

I don't like Akechi in P5, and I still can't say I like him as a person. He is guilty and got blood on his hands, totally deserve what happen in P5. However I really respect him in P5R 3rd semester. He's very first one realize what happened on player's side. All other phantom thief members were seduced by Maruki. Even protagonist could due to player's choose. Akechi knew or predicted what would happen if phantom thieves manage to stop Maruki, yet he was the only determined one from the very beginning. He would rather die than living in the illusion that created by someone else.
He's not clean, but he surely got decent develop as a character in P5R.
P5R has put Akechi in like my top 5 characters without a doubt. Maruki and Joker are amazing so they're at the top but like Akechi is *so* good.
@Tum Tum Not exactly, whether he's truly dead or not is ambiguous. Not only is there the train scene, there's no reason Maruki should know of Akechi's death, nor really much about him besides what is shown on TV.
Also, he appears prior to Maruki's reality on December 24th.

Maruki didn't even bring back Akechi cause of Joker's wishes, he brought him back to convince Joker (or you, the player) to choose the false reality. Yes, Joker did want to save Akechi but he did not tell Maruki that.
It just occurred to me, Maruki maybe able to make reality as if trauma didn't happen but he can't remove the impact that it had, when the phantom theives gained their memories back they went to help joker as soon as possible because they know that yes Maruki did seem to create scenarios where the bad stuff didn't happen but that doesn't change the fact that they did happen and they went through a lot and they're not going to throw away everything they learned, it was trauma that made the phantom theives meet in the first place and Maruki was just making them forget everything they have learned and made them who they are.

And speaking about "clean", Atlus really did a goodjob here. Make a popular character "clean" is not something new, but it did goes kind too far in Japanes video games, anime and manga in past 20 yrs. Akechi in P5R just show us that you don't need to give excuses nor prettify what a character did, and still able to develop his depth and personality. I jus don't get why they ruin this at the ending anime hint that Akechi might still alive.
I think that Akechi being alive makes sense. If he was really just alive because of Joker's desired reality then Akechi would have been gone when Joker rejected Maruki's reality multiple times. We have been told that Okumura and Wakaba went back to being dead when Haru and Futaba rejected that reality. Otherwise it would be a big plothole.

Hikari Hikari If it's a paradox, then Wakaba and Okumura should of both stayed alive as well. Also, Akechi has memories of the actual reality while Wakaba and Okumura do not. So it makes sense he's actually alive still but of course, Atlus wants to leave it up for interpretation
