Thanks Glenn. You should hopefully get some good DX if your near the coast. Keep an ear on and around 27.555 USB. Personally on the 9900 i would try the standard mic before upgrade as they are pretty good.

One of the best radio presentation videos I’ve seen. Absolutely outstanding and my thanks. I think I might opt for this radio over the President Lincoln now. What do you think? Appreciate your help ....
One thing I found to be cost today :) Was playing with some Hz examples you gave - manually tuning them in using the push knob and rotating. Did that on band A. Did not realise by default that the new frequency is saved, even after turning off and on again. So I had to go back and repair Channel 19 (which was set to the international SSB calling frequency). So I guess I need to use the mem function, or just go to one of the bands I cannot use and overwrite a few of the channels. Is that what you do?
Yes the 9900 does that. It rems the last thing you did and changes the mem channel. I guess we all have been there and had to go back and man tune channels back in
Hello Fred, firstly thanks for your videos as they inspired me to get back on the air. Secondly, do you know if there is a way for the 9900 to display how May watts you are kicking out on the display or do you need an external power meter? Regards Dan
Thanks Fred, great guide so I bought one. Did your work great out of the Box in USB? Ive had comments that my V4 version is off frequency even though I've checked that TX clarifier is locked off, 10Khz is off as is the offset function off

Hey Fred, on this 9900 can you tune straight thru from 385 to 415 or 555 without using the band switch? I'm looking for one that will do this like my Lincoln 2 plus in Vfo mode. I don't want to change bands to go from 405 to 415 and up. Cheers.
Hi been looking at this Radio and the SS6900N to put in my VW transporter camper van this one cost a bit more but also looks a bit smaller which is maybe better in the van how do you think it will work with a Avanti Moonraker 4 mobile on a mag mount as that what i currently have on the roof of my campervan or would you recommend a better Mobile Antenna. By the way great channel mate thanks .
Both the 6900n and 9900 (6666) are fine radio's. The 6900n is prob easier to use and runs cooler. I dont know the Avanti but you can only try it. Sirio 4000 or 5000 are popular choices.
I installed mine about a month ago and I never hear anyone talking. There was to instances where I somewhat heard some one for like 20 seconds or so. I constantly scan all bands, frequencies and channels. Is there a setting that I need to change? I am fairly new to cb radio ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m in Alabama USA
Daft question by me and I should know better really. When I'm using the programming software and the rig is hooked up to my PC, does the rig need to be switched on as I'm getting the message 'no connection' even though the Com port is set up correctly? I just don't fancy the hassle of dragging my built in power supply out of its fitting and down the stairs!
fredintheshed1 Ouch! Cheers Fred, thought as much but hoped not! Working till Monday now so I'll wait till then as getting the power supply out will be a right mission 😂
Hi, how can I setup my antenna swr with the internal swr meter from the CRT SS 9900? is it possible or should I use an separate swr meter in the antenna circuit ?
Hi Frank. Yes you can turn on the digital SWR meter on the 9900 and it will display the swr when you key up. Personally i prefer a old fashioned meter in circuit as they are quite cheap.
cuckoojack: The built-in SWR meter in this radio is very accurate (unlike some others). I tested / compared it with my antenna analyzer and the results were almost identical, just a few small differences on the highest & lowest frequencies.
Hi Fred, just bought a 9900, however my bands and frequencies don't align as yours. I have asked knights for a list of frequencies and bands. Using a sigma mid load antenna about 3ft. I can see there is activity on usb but can't here them. Is that my antenna?. Do you agree with my thoughts, it's been 40 years since I used one. So I have ordered Sirio 5000 pl, hopefully that will sort my problem out. Would appreciate your view.
Well done on the 9900. Normally Knights tune one band to the UK 40 FM freqs and the rest are spread from 26-29 Mhz. Sadly your not going to get strong signals from a 3 ft antenna . The 5000 will work well though. Rem you can always tune the radio man by pressing the main tuning knob and then increasing the freqs 10 khz etc. Just dont do that on the UK band as the radio will rem the last freq you tuned and bugger the presets.
Hello there, Thank you for the great video and your channel. May I ask you - is it possible to tune this transceiver to the PL Polish CB band plan from 26.960 to 27.400 ? Thank you and 73!
How low can you run the tx power on fm? I have a zetagi bv131 tube rf amplifier, and this runs very fine at 1 to 4 watts input. In general, i don't like to push the finals in a radio that much. Maybe it is better to connect a "burner" between radio and antenna, and run the radio at the lowest power?🤔
The mem and store channels are odd on this radio. If you save a memory it will be there but if you then change freq it will not rem the prev setting. In a nutshell when on your mem channels dont change any freq or settings.
Hi Fred Any Ideas ? Something strange going on with my 9900 when you switch from channel to frequency the frequency changes on the control knob and when you switch back to channel instead of moving the channel as well like it used to it stays on that channel?in channel mode you can change channel. switch to frequency its changing the frequency instead of moving to the presets if you push the button in to change as you usually would it still does that but its not locked on the presets must be something in the menu that has altered I think. also I get a small letter r in the corner is this something to do with the receive maybe ?
The 9900 has its quirks. Ive also had issues where switching into mode channel on channel 19 and flicking up does not change the freq but ends up re programming all the flicked channels to Ch19. You then have to re program them. Its a little bit of an odd radio. Guess its not really a channel radio like the 6900N.
Nice one Fred. I note what you say about having a suitable power supply for these more powerful radios. However, if I were to get one I'd be using it in a car (not being in a suitable location to be home based), so would runing it from the 12v accessory socket in my car pose any problems?
Some people do run these from the 12v aux socket and say they are fine. Personally i would not. You would need to check the max amp draw allowed for the aux socket. Many are just 10 amp and that will be too low for the 9900.
Thanks for that, I'll have to do more research on mobile use. Anyway, just to let you know I've spent a very pleasant afternoon trawling through your videos. Time well spent on a snowy day in Lancashire. :)@@CB-RADIO-UK
Question. This is a 10 meter radio with CB Frequencies. FCC set the CB Band at 4 watts. Does this unit drop the CB Band down to 4 watts and is this legal in the US?.
You can turn down the RF power to 4 watts and below. However here in he UK the radio would still not be type approved for use on 11m. I would imagine the same rule applies in the US.
Hi Fred, I bought the SS7900, lovely radio and I am a licensed ham operator, Did you know they are illegal to use in the uk, Because they are no sold as a CB we cant use them, I can only use the 10M section and I cant legally use the 11M band either, such a shame as they are fantastic.
hi fred great video much appreciated, you said you would make a video about the call out and conduct your self,i have the crt ss 6900 not the n one but have just sent for the 9900,if you have made the video could you leave a link thanks again fred 73s
Hi Fred , great video.I was thinking of coming back to CB after 30 years off air. Thinking of buying 9900 from knights and they offer the radio in 10 11 12 metre. Which do I need to ask for. Want to use cb fm,am usb, lsb. Can I use Sirio mega watt with mag mount. What do you recommend . Thanks Paul.
I think its all on there, 10,11,and 12. Sometimes you have to put the UK FM channels on there yourself. Maybe just ask them if it comes with UK FM. If not ask them to put them on it, if they don't its not that difficult to do it yourself
I think Pete is right. The newer version has expanded freq but still covers 11 meters. The 40 UK FM band is normally pre programmed in Band A but i guess an email to check before buying would not hurt. All the best.
Knights did mine for combined CB and ham. On mine, Band A is the UK40. Band D is Mids Band E is FB with 27.555 Band F covers 10 metres up to 28.390 Band G Covers 28.400 to 28.790 Band J is 29.6 upwards. Go downwards for 12 metres (Up, down, it cycles round) I know I've not given freqs for bands B, C, H, and I
Hello again Fred, hope all well, I really enjoy this radio. Is it possible to change the steps in five MHz? I can work out how to change it in 10’s & 1’s but not fives. This would be useful as a lot of international stations use frequency’s ending in a zero. Many thanks, Dan.
It should come (if new) with one of the bands programmed to the UK40 FM CB channels. Out of the box the radio its a 10 meter Ham radio and will not have the UK FM channels programmed.
ss9900v4 or ss7900v turbo..? Which would you recommend for a beginner first buy? This is gonna have to last me unfortunately and don't want to keep upgrading because of expense ( famous last words 😁).. not for awhile anyway. I've actually got a foundation licence and took it on-line during first lockdown... unfortunately I only had chance to go to 1 club meeting the week before lockdown and then due to my local ham club being closedd for months, I never got around to purchasing any equipment and lost interest ( didn't really lose interested, just had far too many other hobbies at time.. ADHD.). So any advice would be much appreciated on these 2 models (or similar at this top end price range for me) Cheers buddy... you've sparked my intereste again and I'm really enjoying your channel. Thanks fella 👍👍
The 9900 is a GREAT skip radio due to its high power on USB but its the hardest to learn how to use. The 7900 has a very nice display and better controls but the raw power. Something in between would be the Alinco DX10 which is also a fine radio.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks for the heads-up and advice Fred... 👍 Is not the 7900v turbo the same power tho? or am I mistaken.? I'll have to check again. Enjoying your channel buddy.👍
Yes you can tune it to how many channels you like by dialing in the channel freq. You could program the memory bands to mids and highs etc if you downloaded the software and purchased the USB lead.
If i want to use a crt 9900 in all bands10 m and 11 m, and in all mods in my car(ssb am FM) Can i do this with one antenna??? Waiting for your answer. Regards from Greece
Yes you should if you carefully tune your antenna's SWR in the mid range between 27-28 MHz. It wont give you a perfect SWR at either end but should be workable. If you add a cheap in line antenna tuner it would spot on.
Fred. What's the relevant size difference between the three popular CRD models? Eg your 6900 and 9900 and 7900 if you have one. Would like a rig I can use mob and at home in the future. Thanks.
Hi. The 6900 is fairly big for a radio nowadays. Its quite deep. The 9900 is smaller prob half the size. However small is not always the best as the 9900 runs a lot hotter at the back.
Hi Fred, After owning this for a while, please can I have your thoughts on it in terms of reliability? Has it broken down or has there been any issues?
Hi Harry. I had the speaker stop working after i had dropped the radio and that was just a loose connection. Only issue some people have suffered is the final transistors burning out due to over heating. I think this is mostly caused but running full power on FM. You can buy a new set of finals for less than £20
Hi Fred keep up the good work, do you know if it is possible to hide bands on the radio. For example I have cb and EU frequencies on band D and E and I don't have any need for the bands A B C F G H I J K. Do you know if it is possible to hide or delete the bands I don't use?
You could simply change every channel on the bands you dont want to a generic freq like 28000 KHz. To delete them i guess you would need to connect to a PC find the software and use the USB cable.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Fred a quick update, I got the programming cable and you can remove bands by assigning the ones you want to keep to a "work group" on the software, Also when programming, you can set up each individual channel in a band to always be on FM/SSB ect. So now I have 4 bands on my rig, UK and EU band are on FM and the third band on USB for the SSB frequency's and a fourth band on FM with only the 10M calling frequency, Now when i cycle trough the bands the mode changes automatically as I go which saves a lot of messing with the mode button. Also with the software you can leave any number of channels on a band just by simply deleting the frequency's in the particular slot, so for the 10M band i have just one channel in the band. I hope this helps! keep up the good work.
@@CB-RADIO-UK when I turn the set on , the started procedure is a high pitched scream/ whistle, static type sound and then the usual beep. The high pitch scream is not nice . Just wondering if there is a hidden menu to adjust it ?
Can u help please can I use the wip from my old broken red devil on my spring magmont the swr good and got out to France driving me crazy people telling me different things having asgurgers don't help
Normally the mounting threads are the same. There is no right or wrong when it comes down to antennas. As long as the SWR is ok i would say give it a try.
Great video Fred, I also have a 9900, have had it for just over a year now great radio, however every now and then when I key up the radio will change channel, any ideas?
Nope I made a point of only holding the mic with thumb and finger and kept all other fingers away and it still did it, I may try a new mic see if that sorts it
Hi. I think its in the F Menu No2 "INDIC" OFF: Displays TX frequency when TX; SWR: Displays SWR value when TX TOT: displays TOT remain time when TX; DC: Displays voltage when TX;
Nice one chris. Will need a bit of setting up to get best results You will prob have to turn down the mic gain on the 9900 and dont move the slider more and 10mm from min. Its easy to overload the radios audio.
Hello! The only thing that annoy me is the fact that if we switch from channel mode let's say CB 19 into frequency mode and accidentally we change the frequency, let's say from 27.185 to 28.185, when back in channel mode, it will keep the changed frequency. Practically the channel mode became useless, each and every time, when switching between channels I have to check the frequency and compare it to the frecquency table and when driving, this is almost impossible and very dangerous. This is a way to avoid that? Thanks!
@@CB-RADIO-UK reset all, put it in export mode then change from frequency mode to channel mode. Like that, it will stay in channel mode only and you can see the fréquence of each channel but you cannot chose fréquences in between channels.
Hello Fred , Thank you for the amazing tutorial as always . I've only just started to use my CRT 9900 after over three years of purchasing it !. On first switch on it generated an awful loud audio screech with on screen error notification ? , I switched it off & on a couple of times & seemed to rectify the problem & it's fine now . I use preset CH 1 ,27.601.20 on the UK FM to switch mode to USB , I then tap in 27.555.00 for example & all is good , however if I want to go back to the UK FM I have to re tap the 27.601.20 back into CH 1 , I was wondering if this is normal operation on the 9900 ?.
Hi. I think ive got you. The memories are not fixed with this radio so if your on the mem channels and you change freq they stay changed when you come back. If that makes sense.
Oh absolutely Fred , I will just use CH 1 for the USB & other mode usage . I also have the CRT 6900 , but I've had reports of low audio , hence why I' m using the CRT 9900. 73 .@@CB-RADIO-UK
Oh absolutely , I've turned up the mic gain on the 6900 , sadly it had not much effect , however I purchased a cheap coffin Mic from Knights & that sounds much better , it has a much larger vocal diaphragm & works really well . @@CB-RADIO-UK
Hi Fred, What antenna would you recommend for use in my 4 x 4 . I have tried a couple of whips and a base loaded one but none of them seem to hold a reasonable SWR across all bands. Any advice would be most helpful Regards Dave da Raveman
The first double pot control on the facia above the mic socket. The main outer control is the RF gain signal strength but the inner ring (close to the radio) in the RF power control. Full turned anticlockwise the radio puts out around 1 watt on FM. You will need to connect a power meter to find exactly 10 watts but it will prob be just before the upright position.
From a stone cold start they can be a little off freq on SSB. After 10 mins or so they are on freq and stable. They do run very hot a full power esp on FM.
Can anybody tell me what power microphone that I can use on a crt ss9900 the stock m9. that comes with it is a good microphone but I'm looking for one that I don't have to almost eat I like to hold away from my face a bit have got mic gain set 38 in menu getting good reports was hoping for a desk microphone I asked CRT thay told me I could damage the rig if I put the kpo nm basic power microphone on to it allso I'm an electronic enginer so not afraid of a bit of twiddling or soldering 29SF360 73'S

SOME HOW THAT DATA IS BLOCKED. THAT A SHAME BECAUSE AS OF 2022 WE ARE ALLOWED FM MODE . WE ALLREADY HAVE AM AND SSB . BUT STILL THE FREQUENCIES ARE A MYSTERY HERE ACROSS THE POND.
Tough one. The 9900 is more powerful and comes with a good mic but it harder to learn and use. The 6900 is less menu based and easier to use. Has less power and shipped with a terrible mic.

Hi Fred several months ago you gave me some great advice and just got round to ordering one of these after driving around on a 4w crt millennium and not getting out. So what a perfect little review
To kick off the hobby ‘propppeeerrr’ . Do you ever run this set with additional ‘help’? It seems it’s pretty powerful out of the box! Good tip regarding power supply as I would have been totally stuffed with an old bremi (got myself a Maas). Thanks again and hope to actually speak to you one day.
Hi Fred. I was an old breaker back in day and am coming back on air and am thinking of getting a crt9900 from your recommendation. Can't wait to get it but I'm getting aeriel sorted first. 😊😊
Hi. Yes get a good outside antenna and your 90% there. Lots of skip around right now. Best of luck.
This is my favorite 10 meter radio of all time. I wish they would put this circuit board in a base station model.
Totally agree Mike. More controls instead of menus and a decent front fire speaker and it would be a hit.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Unfortunately the radio manufacturers don't reach out to the people that actually buy and use them to ask what we would like.
Yes also true. I think they aim for the bigger US market. UK seems to get forgotten.
Thanks for the video. (y)
Thanks for the walkthrough on this radio.I ordered this radio and I'm waiting for delivery. I'm looking forward to it.I'm still thinking about which Radio Power source to buy
I would go right for a 30 amp. ua-cam.com/video/mh4r2rjnk9c/v-deo.html
If you select band D and set channel mode, you get the EU 40 CB channels.
Hi I find all of you u tube clips very interesting I was on cb over 45 years ago and this is where I met me wife and have now been married for 39 year now I have now got my Charlie Tango call sign ct4712 and are now look for a 6900 or a 9900 as they look like the old cb in how they work I found-your home base antennae very useful to and it look like I will get a Sirio 2016 for the short ground plane I am thinking or getting a base station and see you have a icon are that easy to use or is there some think better for some one use to Old school cb keep up the videos many thanks Andy c t 4712
Hi. Ive got 2 Alinco HF radios. They are a little bit more involved than a CB but you can program the CB channels into their memories.
One of the best radio presentation videos I’ve seen. Absolutely outstanding and my thanks. I think I might opt for this radio over the President Lincoln now. What do you think? Appreciate your help ....
Thanks. I prefer the 9900 to the Lincoln myself. Dont forget the President Mckinley which is also a good radio.
Regards
Dan
Hi Dan. You will need an external meter to see the power output. Cheers.
fredintheshed1 thanks Fred 👍🏻
Thanks Fred, great guide so I bought one. Did your work great out of the Box in USB? Ive had comments that my V4 version is off frequency even though I've checked that TX clarifier is locked off, 10Khz is off as is the offset function off
They can be slightly off freq when started from stone cold (as the 6900). Once they warm up they normally are ok.
Just received my AnyTone AT-6666
and soon to come mods
1.Max MOD
2.CAP reWork
3.re-do the thermal paste W/artic silver

How is the Max Mod done? Would love to see videos of this and the thermal paste swap etc.
Look up hardrive fine tune cb
Hey Fred, on this 9900 can you tune straight thru from 385 to 415 or 555 without using the band switch? I'm looking for one that will do this like my Lincoln 2 plus in Vfo mode. I don't want to change bands to go from 405 to 415 and up. Cheers.
You can press the channel button to select the tuning step. 1-10-100 etc and then just tune like a manual radio.
Hi Fred. I’m looking to get a new set but can’t decide on the Lincoln 2 or the crt 9900. Which one would you recommend out of the 2? Cheers Fred 73s
I prefer the 9900. I never really got on with the Lincoln
Have a scan around 27.085 AM as you should get a few people around there.
Nice video Fred, does the 9900 have an integrated SWR meter? With those power levels it would be good to keep a ready eye on it.
Hi Roger yes it does have a digital SWR meter.
Hi Glen. Yes the rig needs to be on for the USB on the pc to detect it :-)
fredintheshed1 Ouch! Cheers Fred, thought as much but hoped not! Working till Monday now so I'll wait till then as getting the power supply out will be a right mission 😂
Hi,
how can I setup my antenna swr with the internal swr meter from the CRT SS 9900? is it possible or should I use an separate swr meter in the antenna circuit ?
Hi Frank. Yes you can turn on the digital SWR meter on the 9900 and it will display the swr when you key up. Personally i prefer a old fashioned meter in circuit as they are quite cheap.
Is it possible to use the built in swr meter to tune the antenna or is a separate swr meter needed?.. New to cb's.
Totally fine to use the built in SWR meter. People tend to prefer a seperate meter as it can be easier to use.
cuckoojack: The built-in SWR meter in this radio is very accurate (unlike some others). I tested / compared it with my antenna analyzer and the results were almost identical, just a few small differences on the highest & lowest frequencies.
i will add be careful with the power out they are super power full my 9900 on 30 amps is doing 68 watts not 45 so they are very powerful
Which is better in FM, Anytone 6666 or the CRT SS 9900 v4 ? I'm interested in the receiving quality combined with squelch.
Receive on FM i would say there would be nothing in it. They are pretty much the same radio.
Hello there,
Thank you for the great video and your channel. May I ask you - is it possible to tune this transceiver to the PL Polish CB band plan from 26.960 to 27.400 ?
Thank you and 73!
I would think so as you can tune the radio manually to any freq during that range.
Lowest power setting on the 9900 is around 1 watt.
@@CB-RADIO-UK That is very decent to run the zetagi amp. 1 watt in, approx 40 watt out. Thanks Fred, i will order this nice little radio!.
Fred Help! I’ve purchased this radio after watching your report! I’ve got a problem, I’ve saved a channel in memory but can’t see how to recall it!
The mem and store channels are odd on this radio. If you save a memory it will be there but if you then change freq it will not rem the prev setting. In a nutshell when on your mem channels dont change any freq or settings.
Fred if I was to get a psu for this how many amps would you recommend?
Hi mate. 15-20 amps to be safe.
Mine does the same.
Hi. Yes i knew that. thanks.
hi fred great video much appreciated, you said you would make a video about the call out and conduct your self,i have the crt ss 6900 not the n one but have just sent for the 9900,if you have made the video could you leave a link thanks again fred 73s
Hi. Try this one. ua-cam.com/video/hHZtk89Srgg/v-deo.html

For the benefit of fellow radio amateurs, 12 metres is on "J" band (As is the top 100kc of 10 metres) Just keep tuning up until you get there
Knights did mine for combined CB and ham.
On mine, Band A is the UK40.
Band D is Mids
Band E is FB with 27.555
Band F covers 10 metres up to 28.390
Band G Covers 28.400 to 28.790
Band J is 29.6 upwards. Go downwards for 12 metres (Up, down, it cycles round)
I know I've not given freqs for bands B, C, H, and I
Hello again Fred, hope all well, I really enjoy this radio. Is it possible to change the steps in five MHz? I can work out how to change it in 10’s & 1’s but not fives. This would be useful as a lot of international stations use frequency’s ending in a zero. Many thanks, Dan.
Yes it would be useful. You can do it on the Yaesu. Iam not sure if the step rate is in the menus. Mine changes the same as yours.
fredintheshed1 ok many thanks 👍🏻
I just want to no the best way to use it on the cb band would you please give me some information I would appreciate it thanks again
It should come (if new) with one of the bands programmed to the UK40 FM CB channels. Out of the box the radio its a 10 meter Ham radio and will not have the UK FM channels programmed.
@Fred in the Shed Is there a difference between the CRT SS9900 V4 and the Anytone 6666? Or is there also an Anytone 6666 V4? Best regards 19AT321
Hi. No as far as iam aware its the same radio.
ss9900v4 or ss7900v turbo..?
Which would you recommend for a beginner first buy? This is gonna have to last me unfortunately and don't want to keep upgrading because of expense ( famous last words 😁).. not for awhile anyway.
I've actually got a foundation licence and took it on-line during first lockdown... unfortunately I only had chance to go to 1 club meeting the week before lockdown and then due to my local ham club being closedd for months, I never got around to purchasing any equipment and lost interest ( didn't really lose interested, just had far too many other hobbies at time.. ADHD.).
So any advice would be much appreciated on these 2 models (or similar at this top end price range for me)
Cheers buddy... you've sparked my intereste again and I'm really enjoying your channel. Thanks fella 👍👍
The 9900 is a GREAT skip radio due to its high power on USB but its the hardest to learn how to use. The 7900 has a very nice display and better controls but the raw power. Something in between would be the Alinco DX10 which is also a fine radio.
@@CB-RADIO-UK
Thanks for the heads-up and advice Fred... 👍
Is not the 7900v turbo the same power tho? or am I mistaken.? I'll have to check again.
Enjoying your channel buddy.👍
Hi again Fred, sorry for all the questions 😂 if you had the choice would you buy the 6900 or the 9900 thanks mate
Paul
As a beginner i would choose the 6900 or Alinco DX10 every time. If i was more experienced the 9900 is the better radio. Out of the 3 i think the DX10
Can this act as a Cobra 148 with low mid hi, have midband fm etc
Yes you can tune it to how many channels you like by dialing in the channel freq. You could program the memory bands to mids and highs etc if you downloaded the software and purchased the USB lead.
How do you change the rogger beep on the ss9900
Long press the channel knob to enter menu. Roger bleep is option 5
Will this radio work in the USA as well as the UK for CB?
Yes its multi mode. AM FM USB LSB.
What mobile antenna would you recommend fred?
Dont want to be paying alot for one
Thanks
Thunderpole range. The Voyager is a good choice.
If i want to use a crt 9900 in all bands10 m and 11 m, and in all mods in my car(ssb am FM)
Can i do this with one antenna???
Waiting for your answer.
Regards from Greece
Yes you should if you carefully tune your antenna's SWR in the mid range between 27-28 MHz. It wont give you a perfect SWR at either end but should be workable. If you add a cheap in line antenna tuner it would spot on.
how do i tell what version i have thanks
You said it does 40W on FM,what does it do on Am and SSB?
AM is around 15-20 watts. SSB claims 60 Watts but they actually transmit around 100 watts on a peak.
@@CB-RADIO-UK that's quite a difference in size though. Thanks for the reply .
Hi Fred,
After owning this for a while, please can I have your thoughts on it in terms of reliability?
Has it broken down or has there been any issues?
Hi Harry. I had the speaker stop working after i had dropped the radio and that was just a loose connection. Only issue some people have suffered is the final transistors burning out due to over heating. I think this is mostly caused but running full power on FM. You can buy a new set of finals for less than £20
@@CB-RADIO-UK
Thank you for the reply mate.
I think I'll take a punt on one & fit a couple of mini fans.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Fred a quick update, I got the programming cable and you can remove bands by assigning the ones you want to keep to a "work group" on the software,
Also when programming, you can set up each individual channel in a band to always be on FM/SSB ect.
@Fred - The high pitched screech when you turn the 9900 on. Can that be disabled ? or turned down ? 🔊🙉
Hi Paul. Iam not quite sure what you mean. I get a loud pop from the speaker on mine but no screech.

LOL no ive never had that happen.
are you just catching the channel up or down button with a loose finger?
Nope I made a point of only holding the mic with thumb and finger and kept all other fingers away and it still did it, I may try a new mic see if that sorts it

Fred how do I get on the mids fm on crt 9900 superstar
It should be programmed into one of the bands A-H etc. Either that or just dial in the req and change the mode to FM
How do you use the onboard SWR meter, instructions don't explain it ! thnaks

SWR: Displays SWR value when TX
TOT: displays TOT remain time

DC: Displays voltage when TX;
Just got mine. What I like to ask is there any good power mics that this radio.
The KPO 532 works ok. You just have to keep the mics power very low.
Fred in the Shed thanks for your quick reply. Just ordered the mic. Keep up the great videos. Chris from Plymouth.
Thanks!
Hi. Funny enough i did exactly the same thing when i first got mine.
@@CB-RADIO-UK in the mean time I found the solution.
Which is ?
I also have the CRT 6900 , but I've had reports of low audio , hence why I'

@@CB-RADIO-UK nice. I own a SW20 and run one of the biggest UK MR2 clubs.

fred how can i get it to put out 10w power please
The first double pot control on the facia above the mic socket. The main outer control is the RF gain signal strength but the inner ring (close to the radio) in the RF power control. Full turned anticlockwise the radio puts out around 1 watt on FM. You will need to connect a power meter to find exactly 10 watts but it will prob be just before the upright position.
Do these have frequency stability problems or problems overheating?
From a stone cold start they can be a little off freq on SSB. After 10 mins or so they are on freq and stable. They do run very hot a full power esp on FM.
@@CB-RADIO-UK I may at look at getting the new CRT SS-6900v7.
