"Tight-ass-ometer" 🤣 I can't recover from that one....
You need to put that clip in one of your vids mate 😊
We spoke about it. We compromised….. and I did an Arch 😂 Happy wife, happy life 😂😂
We have some Bad Players in our local Pallet community. We have a person who takes everything and gives others no chance at even a couple of pallets. They pull up at bunnings and take everything. The other bad player takes lease pallets. Has a small crane on his trailer. Now the shops are locking everything up and/or binning throw away pallets to keep people away.
We have people here, they're the trash companies who drop off the dumpsters, well they give away the dumpsters filled with pallets! I just got an entire dumpster full dropped at my house today! Delivered for free! And there's 4x4s! The pallets are made out of 4x4 pieces of wood! There huge and awesome! I look forward to building with them!
Same. If I can save a couple dollars and put some sweat equity into a project, I'm all for it.
I love your wife’s shop!! Those lanterns are so cute!! What a great idea
She is the clever one 😆
Nice bourbonmoth tribute at the start 😂
I feel so conflicted, I pay for reclaimed wood, and I do sudoku, help!
Job well done mate, good to see you got to relax on your holidays 😂
I appreciate the videos that you produce for all of us here on UA-cam. I love the fact that your videos are not all about the next latest and greatest tools that have been provided for you to sell to us, you actually do projects and provide useful tips as well as provide content that makes us think. That also goes for a lot of your down under colleagues as well as the ones across the pond, we don’t seem to get much of that here in the US, most of the channels here don’t even use their tools and just try to sell you on going into debt to buy the next best tool.
Glad you got that straightened out!
Hello Mark,
Pallet materials are always economical. And you are a palette king. Thanks for this great video. All the best. Keep going buddy. Big greetings. Your friend Mehmet
Hey Mehmet. How are you going mate? It is nice to hear from you. Hope you are getting plenty of woodwork time too
Thanks Mark. I like the reasons woodworking motivates you. The rewards are wonderful.
For me, I'm retired, and on a fixed income so reclaiming wood is pretty much a necessity. I love it though. As you said, I'm having fun. I Make something out of "nothing" out of what would be trash. It makes me happy. When the weather breaks I'm going to try to revive my UA-cam channel. Stay tuned.
It makes me happy! Can’t put a price on that anyway 🫡
The amount of times I hear you say "hello dickhead" in my head when i'm working in my shop is insane 😂, thank you for inspiring me
And chamferization with check Square also from Viking woodworker I’ve got addadabaglue
haha, I am glad to hear this
Got myself a pallet buster recently. ITs GREAT!!!! Keep up the good work young man, always great to see a new vid from you 👍
Facts have a pallet buster made my life so much easier.
Evening Dainsey, just thought I'd sling ya a message. I've been watching your channel for a while and loving it! I have moved from the ville a couple of years ago but I used to get pallets and crates from the mower shops (across from RAAF base and just up from Kawasaki on Ingham road), Kawasaki and a couple of 4 meter pallets from the owner of National tiles on Bayswater rd. The crates from Kawasaki are about 3m long, are a mixture of 2x4 and 4x4 and mostly really clean stock. Hope this helps maintain supply for ya.
thanks very much mate, will keep that in mind when times get tough lol
See there! All it needed was a bit of ... Champherization! Great work Mate!!
I’m getting started. Can’t wait to share. I never knew how much work it is to make a video.
it is a bit of work, but you'll find you way
Very nice! I love seeing you and your son working together.
Thank you! Me too
Again great video. Pallet wood to me is a bit of cost saving whilst I practice and of course recycling used materials. Keep the videos coming😊
Your are getting too old for these intros mate 😂😂😂😂 great video! I call them the pallet wood droughts 😂
10:35 glad to see that I'm not the only one who seens to always have shop lighting in the way. No matter where they are. They are always in the way, lol
I've done the thicknesser shuffle as well, but in a full sized 2-car garage. I was reclaiming 16 foot (~5 meter) redwood deck planks.
'would it be hard to...'
Nothing is really hard, it just takes time. And I have to figure it out.
Great mindset!
You're the Ian Rousell of wood brah !
I love the compromise comment! Looked great fella!
haha, cheers mate
100 percent agreed, why must we waste the beautiful pallets just to satisfied others judgemental people. I myself also using pallet wood for my wood working. That how for me to appreciated those tree that being cut off. So i rather use the recycled wood.
That’s the go hey 🫡
Full heaps goodness brudda man ! Good game on the Double Dainsey craftsman tradie install sesh !! Looks mintos 😍
“We compromised & went with the arch” 😂😂😂😂
happy days lol
I share your joy of working with pallets. Doing nice new staff from them - Thank you for your videos I do enjoy them very much. I live far away from you but have the same love to wood working and doing things with my hands. and it worth to me too as it is not my work it is a fun thing
Very nice to hear mate. Keep enjoying it all
Great video Dainer always very entertaining love your sense of humor. Always a great laugh watching your videos and is a new woodworker. Great tips and tricks. Thanks for sharing and your wife shop looks great.
Thanks mate. Appreciate the positive comment. Enjoy yourself
Time with your kid, priceless!!
Sure is 🫡
Love the video Mark, working with your son and quality time makes it all worthwhile!
certainly does mate
I reckon us Brits have taken all your decent pallets. I swear in the last 2-3 months I've seen hundreds of brand new pallets piled up all over the place, whereas last summer I was lucky to find 2 of the same size/type in one week!
Mystery solved lol
Without doubt, the best content on UA-cam.
mate, I don't think you realise how nice this comment is. Much appreciated.
Great video and well done job as always! Greetings from a small Latvian maker! 🤝
Thanks for the videos. Please keep them coming. I am one guy who's trying to "just get started" and who's already dismantled enough pallets for many, many projects.
I didn't see the arch in the beauty shots...?
I know, I accidentally clipped the shot and did not notice. I’ll make a short
I'm pretty jealous that you can find pallets with deckboards that thick! Looked like a full inch (25mm). All I can find around my kneck of the woods is half that at best.
There is no shortage of thick here normally. Until a few weeks ago 🤣
i love being early to these videos
Love it! and seeing Dainer Jr helping you out mate.
He certainly enjoyed himself
The technical term for your tightassometer going off is “puckering”
haha, make sense to me
Another great video Mark 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Glad I found your channel today. Sorry about the fall, but so glad it wasn't intended to be funny. Some humor in woodworking videos is nice, but some guys think falling down several times in each video is critical.
Brother from another mother (country) 😅
I been following your channel for a while . I'm a disable Vet. (1 arm) love woodworking pallets are great, good hard woods . I agree 100th % with you
Thank you very much! Glad your are enjoying yourself too
Nice one mate. Archway would have been a good mental challenge. Turned out awesome.
Those pieces that look like 2x3s (50mm x 76mm) had some nice tight growth. They'd have probably looked pretty good in some application I'd wager.
Sounds about right, then end dimension was much different to when I filmed the first round
Love the channel Mark! If I ever win the lotto I would love to come visit your shop.
Good luck then haha
Fantastic video, I love watching your work as its so inspirational.
Thank you, nice to hear
Another great video. Love the compromise, same deal would have been made in my house too.
haha, you know!
I'd love to make something out of store bought wood but sadly I'm having to many f@#k me moments when i see the prices, 1 lousy pallet here as well at Bunnings.
It's brutal here in Scotland aswell price wise aswell.
Oh Dainsey, you actually did it . . .
you said new instead of noo
god bless
Robert
I will fix that up shortly. Noo 🤣
gnu@@dainermade
Dainsey! Thanks to you, whacking pallets is part of my winter fitness! It is tiring! I heated my dining room all winter with broken "Ht" eco pallets! Bad wood gets burned, good wood builds projects like bird tables. And....I have another recycling side hustle you will appreciate - I fill up a huge raised bed with horse manure which rots and gives out heat to grow very early crops! My entire life is recycling - oh and also old electronics like cameras and laptops.
There is some very rewarding about turning one thing into another. Keep at mate! You already know the secret
Regrets, I've had a few, but then again too few to mention! Cool build Dainsey! I really dig the finished product, very stylish. Arches can be a s.o.b. I have built several during my contracting career. Looking forward to what you bring to the table in the future mate!
Thanks Zac, I’m itching to get back at it properly. Reno’s are not my thing 🤣 appreciate you sticking around
Fantastic work 👍🏼😀
YESSS MARK! Love your words at the end brother!
Cheers mate. Can’t argue with it hey 🫡
This channel has been a great inspiration to me. Just as you said it's all about making something and doing that economically just adds to the joy of creating something half decent.
I've only just started posting but one UA-cam short in and I'm looking forward to doing more all because of you and Jesper amongst others. Thanks.
Great to hear mate. Crack on
Hey mate, re pallet shortage, try fertilizer shops and flooring centres, all their stuff is heavy so pallets are thick and strong
Thanks mate! Good tip
Enjoyed the video. I hope the time off gave you and opportunity to reset.
Haha zero rest mate. That’ll be in March. Hey nice badge, thank you so much.. again
WONKEY DONKEY! I'm currently working on a "compromise" using the same lumber to create board and batten in the house. I think the wood rack looked exactly the same.
Awesome mate! Should be cool
Awesome work Mark. And pleased you had your son involved at the end.
Me too. Thank you mate
Very neat!!!
cheers
Sliding the thicknesser around to accommodate the length of the beams!
Do what needs doing 🫡
LOL'd at a lot of stuff but especially moving the thicknesser back and forth for the long lengths
BTW the flickering in some of your shots is the frame rate of the camera, set it to the same as your main cam if you can.
cheers mate, I film everything on my iPhone. I have no idea why randomly I get a flicker. bizarre
Firstly lovely video, then as a full business human myself ish lol i generally buy however I use 99% using off cuts etc on other jobs and workshop projects. I also buy timber from a local reclamation yard. For my hobby side I rarely buy unless I have to. 😊
He Karl, cheers mate. Sorry been a bit swamped
Nice one mate! Love seeing your videos!
Thanks very much
Cracking job👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks
Hi mate, just found this notification. Just wanted to say thanks, albeit very late. Although I’m sure I did reply 🧐
Very Archchieckec.....arciteciural....arky....you know what l mean, looked great mate and good to see Dainsy Jnr in the mix 👍😁 New saw looks flash mate.....just look out for those pesky rogue screws! Well done as per mate 👍😁🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Dodged a bullet on that screw. Let’s face it, it is only a matter of time. Cheers knack
You are amazing
🤣 thank you
1:44 that on screen caption 😂😂
Okay, so I thought you may have lost that quite comedy ability but oh no, it's still with you... not the obvious chair fall (Bennie Hill?) but your use of the planer... quite freakin' hilarious... something I thought only I would have considered doing! Good job!!! Happy 2024 by the way.
And that part was not meant to funny. More showing what I have to do 🤣
Nice compromise.. 🤣😂🤣
Second time watching! Your wife must be over the moon happy with the results!
She is. It really is coming together now. 😅
Horses for courses and pallets for punters. Sounds like you need to put your Dave Kelly in for a service 😝 Perhaps everyone locked them all down for cyclone season...either that or Dan is sneaking them out from under you 😂
Dan has a sawstop and a domino. He needs to leave the pallets alone 🤣
Recycling & repurposing the salvage wood is very satisfying up here in Indiana-landia, too. Time efficiency is the part i haven't figured out yet (for the full-biz factor to compute). I find myself still in the experiment/ponder/proceed phase of my learning curve. Tinker-time is great, but it doesn’t result in "kangaroo skins" yet. That's okay for now. Hoping I'll get the timber-rescue laminated up with the financial fescue as the year progresses (with a minimum of wonky-donky result).
Really great to see the techniques you're demonstrating here, Mark. Thanks.
Hey Timbo, one day the efficiency will just click. Cutting your losses on some timber is also important
@dainermade I might actually be getting better at being selective with the wood! That's Thanks, in large part, to good advice from you, Jesper, fixit, and Uncle Knuckle. Currently having a great time milling up the hardwoods out of my salvage stacks. Cheers!
Always loved ya videos mate, if your ever in desperate need of pallets I work out at the mine at Ravenswood always plenty out here.
Haha cheers mate! I should be fine around town. All though I do visit the airfield at the mine here and there. Could hook me up 🤣🤣🤣
My back started to ache just watching the ducking under and lifting the framing lol
I’m still paying for it 🤣
my old mate said to me once, why dont u get old furniture off facebook marketplace thats free or really low priced. the wood will still need de nailing or ehwatveer, but furniture timber would be good quality.
did what he said and took some drawers and single bed and built planters from those things
As always, love the videos and honesty! Great work. Keep it up
Cheers dude 🫡
BARRY is thrilled you gave yourself an uppercut.
Haha! Straight out of the Baz play book
Great video Dainsey 👏 your passion is addictive thank you 😊
hey hey.... and thank you too
Hey Daims I go to a pallet factory here and get sticks out of their waste bin, just sayin’.
Cool! Take what you can get
I always end up compromise like that with my wife 😊😊😊
always enjoy your vids, I am also Australian so I understand your Ausie humor. I think if you really love what you do it is always worth it no matter what. What is the alternatives?
That’s pretty much the only message I wanted to get through on this video 👍cheers mate
Dude, you crack me up!
lol! don't encourage me
So good to have a wife that can compromise, ok let’s go with that….😂😂😂. Mr Dainer did good! Created good humans 😊
hey hey Ned, always compromise mate lol
Should I ever make a coffee table, would coffee be the right stain to use. Then I could call it a Coffee table.
Makes sense to me 🤣
And this years Golden Globe for best UA-cam intro goes to.... 🤣
If only that was an act lol
@@dainermade😂
Was there a beauty shot of the arch? Did I miss it?
I think I accidentally cut the clip. There is the progress plastered clips half way
No shortage here, i just got an entire dump truck full of pallets dropped off at my house!;
Beauty 💪
Cracking video again there m8 and ave signed up so ya ain't getting rid of me that easily 🤣 hope your good m8. So u have a wife that likes to offer compromise then do what she wants anyway mine to😬👍🏴
that's the rules hey haha, all good over hear
Love ya work mate
cheers mate
Hi Mark, can you tell me the thickness of the boxed steel you use to flatten your boards. Many thanks.
And another thing.... I'm guilty of using construction grade lumber to extend my supply of reclaimed lumber.
I'll use the store bought stuff for the bones of it, and using the rugged stuff that people who buy my Rustic Creations.
It greatly hastens the building process. My customer base is indeed the lower 90% of nice people who cannot see past the surface of is being produced for them. It also enables me to provide higher quality for.
Where I live in the mid-east-coast of USA, I can source rough cut lumber that has been kiln dried. While this does increase product cost in one aspect, it also makes it easier to produce a product that is truly Rustic inside, as well as outside.
I'm gonna go back and leave some new comments on your other videos so we can drive the crap outta that algorithm.😎🤠🤓
Sounds like a very smart move mate. And appreciate any comment you leave. But more importantly appreciate the positive vibes
Hi. I’m a long time watcher. I “just got started”. I’m making a bookshelf for my daughter out of pallet wood. Have you laminated hard and soft woods together? Are there any problems with that? Thanks Mark
I’ve not had a problem, you may feel slight raises in particular boards and the expand over the seasons. Nothing to worry about though
Thanks Mark
Hi, I love your videos and they've inspired me to start a wood working business of my own. I've found some free reclaimed jarrah and have been making some hallway table but am finding it hard to target the lucrative middle age mum market, so I cant sell any of my furniture for more than $150. What design features would you recommend to help target this demographic?
I found it is more about aestics than features. Like white washing, always give that beach fresh feel to many homes
Hi Mark, a bit of an off topic question, what is the type of wood glue-specifically-
that you are using?
Titebond 1 and sometimes 3 🫡
@@dainermade cheers and thanks for the replies:)
A hundred kangaroo skins worth….
Give or take 🤣
What router bit did you use for flattening the pallets when you first started?
Hi, hope your day is going well. Sorry for the weird question but I wanted to ask if those frames are glasses or just eye protection when woodworking.
they are safety glasses. you can get prescription if needed
Thanks, do you know where I can get them?
Have you tried a farm tractor dealer? I get most of my pallets from my local John Deere dealership in the UK
No, I still like to hunt pallets more for colour. I’m sure they are huge
Geesh, and I thought lumber prices here in the states was high.
That non structural pine, looks like roughly a 2x4 or 2x3 (sorry my obsolete measuring system of inches can't convert on the fly to the measuring system the entire world uses, that makes sense!!! I'm trying to, it just won't convert no matter how much i want it to. 😩)
And a structural pine or douglas fir 2x4 stud is roughly half the price of that non structural one.
(Just did a conversion rate comparison of usd to aud, apparently 7AUD comes out to 4.56USD
So 0.50-1 more, not as bad, but still high, especially if not structural. (What makes a board not structural there? I don't think I've ever seen a board labeled not structural in the states. As far as I know, anything can be or not be structural, depending on how it's used.)
All that being said, I am definitely also a tight ass on buying things
