never expected the best guitar on this channel that is anything but lacking on phenomenal instruments to be a battered old dreadnought. just wow. and lemmo's absolutely inspired playing complemented the instrument, as per usual.
Lemmo always inspires me to play new stuff or think differently. That's exactly what I need after 15 years of playing. And yeah I also need me a vintage Martin
Why oh why, especially if you love music do you have to add negativity in comments? Mark was great, probably knew more about guitars than Lemmo, but Lemmo has great qualities too. Love these era Martins! Nice job J&M!
Thank you Lemmo! You just inspired me to tune my 12 string Taylor to this tuning What a blast! What a way to pass the time on this rainy Chicago afternoon Thanks Dude!
Good Morning Michael ! GOTD Friday night was your best acoustic ever. Serious question ! Myself and several others do Kiho'alu workshops in Hawaii once a year. We teach and train serious students and newer folks the general style of Kiho'alu (slack key) guitar in either week long, or 2 week long workshops in music immersion. Several/various open tuning's for Spanish Guitar are covered, as are several variations of open G, D, and E. Tonight's tuning, DGGDGD, high to low.......have you found a 'name for that'? We haven't. It seems to work in open, with some basic open G chord shapes in place, but different. Anyway......we are trying to find a name for the tuning. I've looked at all of the Hawaiian Kiho'alu tuning's and nothing matches. My question, should you decide to accept, Mr. Phelps, .... is Do you know, or have heard a reference or slang for this tuning? I've seen a few vague references to it being referred to as, (not called): Slack G, Low Blues G, and Taropatch Flat. (Taropatch tuning being Open G) Anyway I was stalking your site this evening and saw mention of the tuning. Open G, with the B dropped to G. Several of us have played in it, but nobody really knows if it has an official trade name. Hoping you can help. Guitar of the Day Fans on UA-cam, please chime in! Cheers, Love, Happy Turkey Day, and Surf's Up here from Santa Cruz Ca. cmdrpiffle
For a split second, I thought that opening number was gonna be "Wanted, Dead or Alive." Also, that sitar effect on the last song reminds me of something I've heard Lindsey Buckingham do. I wonder if he achieves that sound the same way.
@@mrtambourineman6107 not sure what your issues are. Flying on a plane isn't some extravagant expenditure reserved for the wealthy elite. You can fly places for less than a hundred bucks round trip depending on destination. You can also use electronic gadgets on airplanes just fine and not cause the plane to plummet to its death. WiFi does cost money on flights, but as a TMobile customer I get a free hour of WiFi on flights that use gogo internet service. This one did. So it wasn't a single boast about being super wealthy and flying. Just a post about how great it was to drown out endless crying with sweet sweet lemmo tones.

Man, that thing has angel-voices in it! Have hardly ever heard a better one, maybe never...
The angel-voice is michael lemmo
There's something magical about these vintage Martin guitars.
Called marketing! Ha

That guitar sounds amazing, and Michael knows how to truly bring its tone to life.
That right there is how Martin got it's reputation. Amazing tone, gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.
Michael heaven on earth!
Lemmo is honestly by biggest inspiration for everything honestly, his music speaks to me so much
seriously that first song is one of the most original and beautiful short acoustic guitar song I've ever heard man. Lemmo you"re a legend!
Mark Agnesi established Guitar of the Day and you Mike have given this show a well rounded and diverse sonic boost! You do well kid!
Lemmo plays beyond his years!
He has an old soul.
That first song was what introduced me to Lemmo many years ago in this channel. Great to hear again!
Why oh why, especially if you love music do you have to add negativity in comments? Mark was great, probably knew more about guitars than Lemmo, but Lemmo has great qualities too. Love these era Martins! Nice job J&M!
Agreed, Lemmo is a great player, but MA made GOTD what it is. No need to diss anyone. They're both amazing in their own ways.
Wow. Beautiful just beautiful. Michael that was absolutely incredible
LEMMO YOU INSPIRE ME EVERY TIME

Me too. Worked that up against my will 10 or so years ago. crowd loved it.

Cracking Show today, thank you Micheal and Jen, Jeff in LA USA
Same tuning you used on a Silvertone 1457 on April 18, 2018. Just stumbled on that old video. Thought that tuning rang a bell.
Great old axe.sounds magnificent!nice smooth fingerboard.
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful!
Wow!
Sounds fantastic.
Seems like it's one of those acoustics you can just disappear into, and just find songs.
Awesome.
Great tone on that guitar! Also great playing there Lemmo! Thanks Jen
Gosh, that sounded just about perfect.
Sounds great now we know why it's well played guitar. Great playing Mr. LEMMO.

I dig my Lemmo from another mother
Sounds like George Harrison 😊nice sounding guitar 🎸 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Micheal we are so glad you are doing GOTD my parents now let me watch it because of you
omit the 'F' word ! I hope to play like you some day...
Damn - great playing and that D18 is money!!
D-18 is the best Martin`s model.
The only thing wrong is the lack of everyone in Norms clapping and cheering. That's a nice sounding tuning.
Oh, Lemmo on a d18. I’m going to like this...and I did 😃
goddamn lemmo! thats some sweet playin
Lemmo, i loved the two last songs SO MUCH
please tell me the name of them
thanx
Nice guitar .. good tunes
Sweeeeeeet guitar!
i'm tearing up on that second piece; daughter of Ava maria.

What kind of strings do u use for the D18?
At last..the real demo guitarist..he makes all guitar sings👍 Mark Agnesi hurt my ear too bad..
TRAUMATIC Got that right
What was the name of the first song? Very nice!
I have the same exact guitar! 1948 tho
Please give more guitar tips pertaining to alternate tuning us newbees need all the help we can get
What is the microphone or camera they use?
jordan q shouldn’t matter too much, the mic is probably a rode shotgun but camera doesn’t pick up audio
Came for the guitar... Stayed for the playing
So the empty case means Mike is doing an air Guitar ?
Whats the first song he played?
And the employees at Norms are freezing and wearing jackets at work, cause Norm won't turn on the heat. Dammit Norm! Ya, I'm bs'ing.
I know I’m being over protective with the guitar but i get so anxious putting my Martin in open tunings
6:20 my brain checked out.
That saddle is not right for a '54. Should be a long cut-through.
Bob Simmons yes. Probably replaced bridge
Revelry 1969 Mike mentioned the bridge was shaved down... maybe they put on a new bridge to avoid messing up a vintage one?
