I sold the PS Vita a year ago, I was barely playing with it, I didn’t have much physical games on it. It’s cool there’s a PS Vita emulator, since there’s not many PS Vita systems available online. Hope they make the emulator more playable on the Steam Deck.
@@coastaku1954 That’s probably the best bet for people who are interested in Vita games right now, but those old Vitas won’t work forever, and there’s a finite number out there

As a die hard PS Vita fan (was in hospital for the best part of a year during its "peak") pretty much everything of true worth has been ported to a more accessible platform while also generally running better. All that's really left on the system is B and C tier games that nobody really cared about when it launched or a whole lot of niche Japanese stuff (most either didn't get localised or you had to buy an Asian version that also had English for whatever reason). I love the system, I have over ~200 physical games and god knows how many more digital, but at the time had there been a better alternative I definitely wouldn't have suffered through a large majority of games hitting 12-16 fps. Very few games run at decent frame rates which can honestly invalidate entire genres like the few FPS or general shooters that exist on the platform. By far the worst offender was Dragon Quest Builders 1 - felt like that game never hit above 20 and at times would run in single digits. God knows how Japan got the sequel on Vita still. Seriously though, the "must plays" that started as exclusives have been ported and are generally better experiences: Danganronpa 1/2/AE/V3, YS Celceta, Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2, Gravity Rush, Demon Gaze, Tearaway, There's still plenty of stuff stuck on the Vita but they're generally games that would fall in the 60-70 range on average unless that specific genre/feel grabs you. Personally I used it mostly for JRPG's because they were the best time to money investment and there were plenty if you went looking for them, not all are winners (Mind 0 lmao), but for the price at the time you could take so many risks without looking twice. IIRC The average price I paid for physical Vita games was like $24 AUD - new. Back in the good old days where the AU dollar was decent and the world hadn't gone to shit and vidya companies weren't adding random $10-20 AUD prices on top of physical for whatever reason (Cheers Switch).
Love to see it! Ratchet and Clank collection which is the original trilogy from the PS2 would probably be better off running on a PS2 emulator such as PCSX2. I'm not familiar with any advantage with the Vita version.

Good stuff. I do wonder about gyro, camera/AR (getting around these is going to be a challenge as handhelds don't have any camera these days while phones don't have that issue of course because they have cameras/AR games) or if PSTV mode for games or something. Vita 3k is looking good over time for sure. Happy with my Vita 1000, 2000 and PSTV but the emulation is impressive still. Besides of course the Android and homebrew side not looked into as prefer my systems official but still with emulation I have tested a few PSP homebrew and would likely do so with Vita 3k. For Android ports maybe if certain games don't work on Android itself with old apps/games that I've tested.

I love how he always makes sure to use proper names of everything. Like in this video he knows the X in game crossover titles means "Cross". Same with the X button on the PS controller. Final Fantasy X is 10, not the letter X. Bros. means brothers and not bro's, and so on. He also never butchers Japanese names. I have been running it on android. Phone galaxy s22 + snapdragon 8 gen 1 with 8 gigs of ram. Mortal runs great no slow down other then when it does the shaders. Some miner graphic glitches but fully playable. 3d games seem to run better then 2D or 2.5D games that will not boot are games like stealth inc and stealth in 2 a clone in the dark. As soon as you hit start game it instantly crashes without even trying to boot the game at all. All and all for 3D games it seems to be on par with the pc port with only minor differences in Performance.
10:12 There is one good reason to have the Vita version over the PC version but it's mostly for preservation over gameplay: The PC version of Persona 4 Golden comes with Denuvo DRM which, for most PC titles, is a kill-switch waiting to be toggled. DRM-Free versions of Persona 4 Golden do exist but not through official channels (Unfortunately). It's is even more important when/if you have problems running Persona 4 Golden on the Steam Deck as a common troubleshooting step is to try other Proton versions. Each Proton version is considered by the Denuvo DRM as "A completely separate and different PC" so unless you get lucky with troubleshooting, Denuvo will eventually block access and therefore further troubleshooting because you "activated" it too often. The Vita version won't have all the features of the PC version but it will at least consistently run without any internet checks required (pre-emptively or not)

I just wanted to mention, I don't remember you ever covering Atari Jaguar emulation. BigPEmu is amazing and the story of it's development is interesting. You might want to look into it one day.
The scripting module update that got pushed recently is pretty exciting. I don't know if anyone's done anything with it yet, but the included demos of uncapping Alien vs. Predator's framerate and running Cybermorph in HD are promising for the potential of this.
If only the Steam Deck's screen looked as good as the original PS Vita's OLED screen!
Hell if only the steam decks screen looked as good as the v1 switch xD i own one but it only covers around 70% srgb. A lot of games just look worse on the thing because of the lack of color detail.
I'm hoping Steam Deck 2 to get us covered on that end. I own a Vita 1k and a Deck and while the statement is true both have been really good consoles to me.
Valve listened to this comment!
@@waffleson45 Haha!
Great video MVG. I love the Vita!!! Hey, have you seen the Paper Mario Decompilation project? They just finished with the US version not too long ago. It's pretty sweet!
Very pleasantly surprised by the performance of Vita3k on the Retroid Pocket 3+
Gravity rush and all-stars battle royale are a couple of games that made me want to get a ps vita in the first place. This might be a great alternative since my android phone is relatively recent (and I think the ps vita expeirence is meant to be had on a handheld device).
Heck ya gravity rush is a underrated masterpiece
Gravity Rush is also on PS4 as a remastered title (with all DLC). I have it along GR2. 2 of my most favorite PS4 games that I platinum'd. Both should be fully playable through PS5's backwards compatibility.

@@VariantAEC The most recent sony console I've got is a ps2.
4 months later they've already jumped from 45% to 55% fully playable 👏👏
Hey just wanted to say thanks for reminding me of Freedom wars, that game has been in my head for years and i could never find the name. Always love your content ❤
This emulator has come so far. I remember when it first came public... Times sure have changed. Fun fact it was the first console emulator to be able to play Undertales in a playable state. P4 Golden befote pc release was a major motivation to advance vita3k
I do hope the Emulator keeps improving I Sold my Vita in like 2014 & kinda wanted to play some of those games I never Finished
Love the vita, but hope we can get good performance on the Steam deck 😊
You know the Vita is handheld too, right? Why try and get the games to work on another handheld. You device rapers are weird
Neat! I personally probably won't dabble with Vita3K since I already have a properly hacked Vita so I can easily play Vita games on native hardware, but it's still neat for those who don't.
I sold the PS Vita a year ago, I was barely playing with it, I didn’t have much physical games on it. It’s cool there’s a PS Vita emulator, since there’s not many PS Vita systems available online. Hope they make the emulator more playable on the Steam Deck.
This is good news. It's always nice to know that good games won't be trapped on old hardware.
Who cares, just get an old vita
@@coastaku1954 That’s probably the best bet for people who are interested in Vita games right now, but those old Vitas won’t work forever, and there’s a finite number out there
@@TwoToTheSix I seriously can't think of a single Vita game, why is everyone so obsessed with it now?
3:33 - Um...is this a video edit error? Otherwise great video. I am happy to see Vita3K make big strides now. Every emulator, including the not so popular, deserve a fair go.
You have no idea how I have been waiting for this.
Just installed v9 on my retroid 3+. Its amazing.
Damn, i was just thinking about downloading and messing around w Vita3k. Great upload!
The Steam Deck seems like the perfect device for PS Vita Emulation, Because the Two Trackpads, Touchscreen and Gyro
Playing persona 4 on my phone is so nice. I never thought vita emulation would become this good, this fast.
I love that a team of people was able to make the Vita3k. It's nice to see that people will be able to appreciate the vita going forward especially with the cost of the games going up because of the limited supply.
Seriously though, the "must plays" that started as exclusives have been ported and are generally better experiences:
Danganronpa 1/2/AE/V3, YS Celceta, Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2, Gravity Rush, Demon Gaze, Tearaway,
There's still plenty of stuff stuck on the Vita but they're generally games that would fall in the 60-70 range on average unless that specific genre/feel grabs you.
What would be a cool addition is allowing the vita to be a controller for the emulator(if it’s even possible)
U can do it wired
On Snapdragon 870 this emulator performs really well.
If you use external turnip mesa drivers
so damn happy to see the vita finally having a way to play the games on something other than the vita itself, the games deserve to be preserved
Love to see it!
Ratchet and Clank collection which is the original trilogy from the PS2 would probably be better off running on a PS2 emulator such as PCSX2. I'm not familiar with any advantage with the Vita version.
There are some titles on the psvita that are just absolutely amazing and, being able to play them on steam deck is incredible
When I first started following 3k there was only abt 5 or 6 games playable in the compat list, great to see them come so far
Prior to the Steam Deck, The Vita was my all time favorite console. Really happy to see the emulation for it making such progress.
The Deck is not really a console
@@oscarzxn4067why not? It’s as much a console as the original Xbox which had PC components and ran directx.
This video made me wonder, what are some of MVG's favorite games? What do you actually enjoy playing? That would be a great video!
Sold my VITA couple years ago. I'm glad the emulation is getting better. Want to play Gravity Rush again.
Still have my Vita 1000 although it’s OLED screen has a vertical green line it’s still playable. Great to see an emulator for Vita on multiple platforms
Soul Sacrifice with higher internal resolution sounds spicy.
Great to see the amazing progress that's been made so far. The Vita has some stellar titles that deserve to be played at higher resolutions.

What games are worth playing though 😅
@@RocketZX Air Race Speed, Killzone Mercenary, Resistance: Burning Skies, TxK, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, Soul Sacrifice Delta, Super Stardust Delta, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, Unit 13, and others.
A very detailed review, thank you sir!
I have a PS VIta and I love it, but I'm still use emulators like this, the possibility of upscaling the games is really great. It is awesome to play theses titles on a higher resolution
YES! VITA EMULATION! I have my own PS Vita, but Emulation for the Vita is a must! We need more people playing! I love the Vita it is my favorite handheld tied with the Deck and the Switch actually now that I think about it, but I love the Vita! I hope this gains more attraction we need more Vita fans and more support for the Vita emulator. I hope they Vita comes back one day. I am also a big fan of Wii and Wii U emulation and modding!
Then keep your systems official, Official is always the way to go
@@coastaku1954Why do you care so much about using official hardware, the vita sucked and there are hardly any games worth playing. So naturally I'd perfer to play those games on my computer as opposed to the small and not as comfortable vita.
@@BWCstroker Because Emulation is too easy, it's like cheating, it'll take the fun and magic out of these games. I have Dolphin with Wii Sports on it, using a Nintendo Switch Joycon as a Wii Remote, it's just not the same as using an authentic Wii
Nice to see the Ys series represented even if not mentioned.
Most YTbers don't even bother and they think of themselves as professionals.
Got a Steamdeck and this is the one I really want. Will keep my eye on this now things seem to be improving.
I'd recommend getting a DualShock 4 for this emulator. It has a touchpad which I've confirmed works at least on Citra and the gyroscope for when Vita 3K gets support for it.
About Muramasa, and it’s because it’s my préfères game on vita, I found out it’s because it’s need the 1.06 update. After applying the update, it can run smoothly and with the dlc if you want. Update 1.06 is mandatory.
How do you check for rom updates if pandorah is down?
i love my steamdeck, i didn't even know vita emulation was a thing yet. think i'll wait a bit but yeah i can't wait to play my vita games on the deck, vita has some really awesome games.
The Vita is a handheld though, just get one
@@coastaku1954 i have one but it's tiny and the thumbsticks are, well tiny as well. a deck is way more comfortable.
Due to the Vita also having that track pad in the back, I imagined that the Deck is the only device that could perfectly emulate it. I guess the only thing missing is the camera but that can be solved just connecting one.
I'm so glad there's still strides coming along with vita3k. So many gems on there still, likely doomed to getting no ports otherwise.
Anyways great stuff!
Such a tease to see Soul Sacrifice on the screen. One of my favorite vita games ever.
most vita games used the back touch as L2 R2 L3 R3 so I imagine mapping corners would work nicely on the back buttons
portable/ARM based console emulators for macOS make me wonder if a translation layer would work better for that platform when it comes to running DS, 3DS, Switch, PSP and PS Vita games - since many modern Macs are now ARM64
Skyline worked wonders for the few games it could run well on android, so yeah.
5:47 I'm pretty sure PS3 and PS4 controllers can help a lot with that. They can also utilize PS4's touchscreen for touch controls.
Wow! I bought my Vita like 10 years ago. Still one of my favorite handhelds. But if we could play Vita games on the Steam deck one day… That would be the most Amazing ever 😊
I was wondering how this is going when I saw vita 3k added to emudeck, thanks for the synopsis of emulator performance!
Thank you for making this video
The Vita version won't have all the features of the PC version but it will at least consistently run without any internet checks required (pre-emptively or not)
if you buy it, you are morally permitted to crack it. but yeah, it sounds like the PC version isn't entirely trouble-free.
YEEESS! Yes! More Steam Deck content! I have done more emulation on my SteamDeck in the past few months, than easily past 10 years of messing around. Something about it just clicks, man.
Or buy original hardware, why is this so difficult?
@@coastaku1954 Cost? Availability? Lack of space for a dozen devices and their specific cables/ controllers to play one or two games on? Improved performance in many situations? Emulation is great.
@@michaelburnhamdidnothingwr7785 Emulation can also be illegal and you loose a lot of the magic when you emulate
@@coastaku1954 I don't know, man. Multiple system spanning library of games, all playable on a single handheld...feels pretty magical to me. Upscaling, improved frame rates...mods? There are benefits to running on modern hardware. Anyway, I guess you should call the cops.
Wow that backlight bleed on your steam deck is bad😢 great video as always!
Love my Vita. It's got so many features. The form factor is also great. I personally do not class the Switch as portable.
Great!! with the Steam Deck + Vita3K, now we can finally play PS-Vita games on the go
PS Vita emulator with enhanced resolution? Thank you very much.
The Vita was always looked up to as best performance in a handheld.
Very happy that many Vita games were eventually ported to Steam. Although I have a PS Vita 2000 and a PS TV it's still good to have old Vita exclusives available a different way. Games such as Persona 4 Golden, Danganronpa, come to mind. I am still working on my platinum trophy for Soul Sacrifice Delta, by far my favorite Vita game. Shoutout to Freedom Wars, that was a neat game also. As many games have been ported, many are still Vita-exclusive and others yet have been turned down by Steam. I forget which game, but there was a JRPG I liked on Vita that Steam prohibited the developer from releasing or appealing which was disappointing.
great stuff, I love my vita, it was so ahead of its time, sadly not supported by many game developers.. it could have done great if more indy games could have been ported back then on it.. but my favorite handled hardware nonetheless. Also the touchscreen in the back was special so I really think a vita is the best way to play vita games and always will be since I don't see a new console arriving anytime soon with a back touch pad though for games like LBP
Looks promising not gonna lie. But I'd still stick with my Vita 😊 But it's still nice to see some options for us.
Thank you, just stick to official hardware
Couldn't get into it without android "touch screen is a must" really close experience to the real thing!
If anyone heavily into jrpgs like me ps vita emu is a great thing , ps vita was quite popular in Japan there lot of ps vita exclusive jrpgs ...
I also recently downloaded vita3k on my steam deck it's simply amazing ...Freedom wars is one of my favourite title
I'm so glad I still have a Vita. I love my Deck...but man, there's just something special about the Vita!
I'm honestly just waiting for the day Phantasy Star Nova is fully playable
still, it's so amazing to see how far Vita3k has already come
Sticking to PSP emulation for now since it runs perfectly even on my 5 year old mid-range Android phone. It's the best emulation gaming experience for old devices imo.
got the psp emulator working easily and seems to run every game I've tried I just don't understand at all how to play games with the vita emulator it seems way more confusing
It actually runs pretty well for me on the English Patched version of Tales of Innocence for Vita.
wish I knew this before I went about getting a new ps vita, and repairing my old one but oh well
The Vita is just such a great console. Mine just turned 10 a few days ago!
Been using it for awhile. Wish it ran the games I wanted well (extreme visual glitches), but hopefully it will get fixed at some point.
I don't even understand how to play a game on it seems really confusing and difficult
Had no idea this had come along so far, just played TxK without issue
I hope we get a full working vita emulator someday, mine got a GPU problem and i can't play any 3d game for more than 5 minutes or it crashes unfortunately, and it's a shame because the vita have a pretty good library of games
One game that you should have tested is Killzone Mercenary, which was one of the best FPS experiences you could get in a handheld back in the day
So many great vita games.
Tearaway
Touch my katamari (best played with the back panel touch controls)
Gravity rush
Happy to see more people will eventually be able to play these vita or not
Ooh, I didn't know Gravity Rush was working now. Awesome. Gravity Rush and Muramasa are the 2 games I would most want to emulate. Tearaway would be great too, but I think the best way to experience that one will always be on an actual Vita.
Hopefully Muramasa can get up and running soon. With how fast progress is, I think they'll get it working sooner than we think.
The gravity rush remaster on ps4 Is much more amazing though to me
@RocketZX yes, but the value of emulating is so that I don't have to play on a console lol
