As usual this video also is extremely useful for those who not only love to sing but also love to get into why some songs are more attractive than many others. Some of us even tend to feel that the if a song originally sung by A had been sung by B it would not have been so much attractive. Every song has a feel in it related to its lyrics and situation.
The slight vibrato, to some extent helps in manufacturing the feel more efficiently. I am reminded here of Talat Saab and Hemanth Kumar in old Hindi movies who employed this vibrato technique . Kadale neela kadale in the old early seventies movie is a love in pain of separation soliloquy song. It is crafted in Kaliani (?) and Talat Saab’s voice lends extra beauty and feel. Similarly many other songs in Hindi by Talat Saab show this character. Rafi Saab also employs his voice in achieving the same feel effect , perhaps , within a broader spectrum.
A good singer employs his voice to the maximum benefit to convey the feel. But unfortunately the old Carnatic musicians don’t subscribe to the above idea.
Deepu’s video will help , definitely all those who wish to sing with the required feel whether of joy or sadness or any sort of emotions. I always believe that if you subtract the feel aspect from a song what remains is a meaningless collection of frequencies.
Deepu pays a lot of attention to such very important matters overlooked by many over a long period of time.
Other than just raga and scale perfections , there lie many other things in a song.People are not aware of such aspects . That is one of the reasons of why the exceptionally rich classical music is forced into a few people only where as film music succeeds in spreading its flavours into a wider spectrum of listeners.
Hope people listen to such posts from ShruthiLayaDeeptham which give such beautiful as well as useful ideas to one and all music lovers.
Thank you for this detailed comment! The slight vibrato that you have mentioned is critical to the feel of the song. I have not mentioned about it yet, but will do so in the upcoming videos. Yes you are right - in order to have the feel, one needs to do voice modulation and apply some vibrato as well.
