Excellent presentation! Very informative for singers with minimal classical background. Look forward to having the upcoming episodes in this series. 💐❤️
This video , I am sure will be most useful for singers , especially in their tyro stages. There are many prospective singers who try to excel in the TV live channels and if luck does not stand in their way , even to sing in movies and in concerts. In this context, I am reminded of se competitions which Deepu had taken part in his school as well as early college days. He used to sing extremely well even during those years. He had won many prizes and we were not aware why ,in some competitions , in spite of singing too well he could not bag the first prize. Later when we researched ,we could find that he sang a familiar ragam like Abheri and the one who got first prize in that concert sang Harikamboji or so. Another ond sang Bhairavi. He also got a position higher than that of Deepu. I was perplexed. I believed that the quality of singing alone must count. But judges might think differently. In a TV channel competition, I heard The famous singer Sreenivasan advising a participant to refrain from chosing a song of very wide ranges. It was because his voice was not built that way. Any how this video is wonderful. The music director and the singer might have hidden some special micro sangathees in the song. If you can unearth that it would be fantastic.
Very good analysis and explanation, Deepak ❤👍. I have a doubt regarding Pramadavanam. Isn’t the lowest note G2 (instead of G3) and similarly for the highest note (G4 instead of G5). Normally Yesudas sings in the baritone range, so I am confused whether the G3-G5 is the actual range of this song.
Thank you. My point is that the lowest note is “Panchamam” i.e G in pitch C . The number 2 after G denotes the octave in the example. So it really doesn’t matter if its 2nd or 3rd octave. The keyboard that I selected has G3 matching the note I sang. We can take any octave and demonstrate this . The intention is to find the range of the song. If the lowest note is G3, the highest note is G5. If the lowest note is G4, highest note is G6.
Very informative Deepu. Song selection, pitch, voice modulations, sangathees, breathing and lyrics pronunciation Congratulations. Thank you for this video🙏
