BODYLINE SMASH | STEP by STEP Aluminium Repair
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 тра 2024
- Hi everyone, here is another in depth video showing all the stages of a bodyline crease dent on the front wing/fender of a Mercedes E220 AMG - Line. This was a very difficult panel to repair as it was made from Aluminium or Aluminum (USA & Canada). I find this metal VERY challenging as it takes a lot more force and effort to get it to move back into place than regular mild steel. In the mid-point of the video I explain some basic facts about Aluminium. Enjoy!

Hi everyone, another in depth repair for you this time on a front wing/fender made from Aluminium, this metal is always a challenge to repair, hope you enjoy it!
absolutely first class repair, would love to do this kind of work
@@frogmanvc Hi Izzy, I think in PDR everyone does things differently but ends up with the same result, I was a panel beater first so I apply more panel beating/metal working techniques to my work, I don't use blending hammers much and I attack crowns slightly differently to what I see other people do, so I stick with what works for me. I don't pretend to be the best in this field, I still have a lot to learn especially as the metal used on vehicles is evolving too. I think some techs worry too much in what order things should be done, I always experiment, sometimes it doesn't work and other times it does. Thanks for posting my video:-)
@@frogmanvc When I use a slapping spoon or blending hammer it is hard to see the metal moving. With a tap down it moves faster but it can make small marks so I tend to glide it evenly across the panel to prevent this from happening. Everyone has their own methods:-)
@@frogmanvc Sorry i meant that I keep it upright, I just move it quickly across the panel so that the pressure it not focused too much in one area, leaving too many small indentations.
@@frogmanvc I'll take a look when I get the chance. Thanks
That was satisfying. I couldn't see any leftover damage. You're an artist sir.
Thanks Anthony!
Your videos are almost like watching your favorite TV show . Hoping in anticipating the next video every time. Outstanding work once again Jake
Maybe the BBC will give me my own show! 🤣🤣🤣
@@1st_track_dents you deserve it
@@1st_track_dents I wish you were my trainer
You are so on point with everything and yes to everyone that thinks aluminum panels are soft, they are harder to move
Yes everyone says, "it Aluminium so it will push out easy" I think they think of Aluminium drinks cans and sandwich foil, but as you know, it's completely different:-)
Wow, info on point, this was like a college lesson . Valuable and informative . Thanks mate
I had to subscribe, watching you is like watching a magician, is this a skill you teach others, I'm a driving instructor and this skill would save me alot of aggravation.
So much to learn, and being inquisitive, this is rewarding! Thanks Jake. All the best as you show how good UA-cam can be.
Это мастерство!!! Преподнести всё так, что понятно даже без перевода😊👍👍👍. Не устаю смотреть Ваши ролики. Наклейку с вашим логотипом если бы была, то обязательно поместил бы у себя в мастерской по PDR. 💪😊👍
Man... A perfection level is yours... Every vídeo, a new woooooowwwwwwww.... Congratulations again!!
I must have watched this video five times already I just love how you're so detailed and you list the tools you used in the description you're a genius...
Thanks, hopefully uploading another one tomorrow if i get all the editing done on time!

Brilliant work, great video, thanks!!
Amazing, very skilled work enjoying these videos thanks there therapeutic to watch nice to see a panel being properly repaired rather than bodged with filler or replaced
Impressionante, muito bom trabalho, parabéns
Fantastic work.
Hi Jake! Very informative video sir. I have an F-150 Ford truck with all aluminum body. Nice to know that aluminum is more difficult to work with and takes lots of patience. I have a very small dent in the right door and will use your techniques. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful, yes when working on Aluminium panels for a long time, my arms start to hurt! Good luck:-)
Wow it's amazing. Great repair and channel! Congrats
Muy buen trabajo , muy buen video, excelente
Your videos are amazing! Very professionally recorded which makes for a great tutorial. And the result is always "factory finished" GLASS ! Amazing work Jake, thank you

Hi Jake excellent video the tuition on the make up of aluminium was really informative thank you.
I actually learn't a lot more than I expected from my research, so thought it would be good to share:-)
Brilliant work I've always wondered why Aluminium was such a different prospect to steel bodied cars. Your explanation was spot on. Thanks.
Thank Garry:-)
Thanks brother great job 👍
Well done again. Your video content is stellar !! A very enjoyable watch !!
Thanks Tom, they take some time to put together, so it's really nice to get some positive feedback 👍

Greetings from the UK, thanks for watching!
Brilliant master like always delivering perfection great job. One question what do you recommend to push metal in a bid dent a robber tip what type of would you used thanks in avance master👍
I bet the customer was chuffed out of his mind when he saw the finished job. You got magic at your finger tips Jake.
It's not magic, it's just years and years of doing the same repairs over and over again, I can almost switch off and go on auto pilot on some of the smaller, easier ones!
It's a magical thing you PDR guys do. Seen it with my own eyes when my dustbin got blown over onto the wing of my MR2 leaving a dent the size of a gold ball, guy came round with his tools and boom within no time at all you could not even tell there was any damage. OK so it ain't exactly magic as you say but your skills are evident and the video content is great.
Eu so queria entender o que vc fala Kkķkk
porque sua explicação parece ser muito top
Vc é um ótimo profissional
You also make this video with high passion on it
Can you pdr a dented plastic bumper? Not sure I've seen videos on this type of dent on plastic bumpers. You have the best informative videos out there for pdr.
Thanks Mike! Plastic is probably more unpredictable than Aluminium as a material. I don't really carry out any plastic bumper repairs, I only specialise in dents in metal. Some large dents in plastic can pop out but they sometimes leave micro cracks in the paint surface and lumps around the perimeter of the dent that wont push back down with PDR tools. Most of the time when trying to remove dents in plastic the paint will get damaged so will need painting anyway:-)
Wow amazing work as always Jake, one day I can only hope to be as good as you
Anyone can achieve these results, you just have to put many hours of practice in. I'm still learning!

I DO like the way you Brits say it. THANKS again for the time you put into creating your Videos.

Please can you show how you repair a dent on a door pillar between the roof and door shut amazing what you do
Well done. I hate working aluminium - it's so hard to move.
Hey I enjoy your video. What do you suggest as a beginners tool kit.
Difficult one to answer, probably an Ultra Dent double bend tool with a set of tips, I think it's listed in my last video description as I used that tool for the whole repair on that last video:-)
Fantastic content as usual Jake. Having had you work on my car before I can 100% recommend your services. A true perfectionist at work, every time ...
Thanks Jon :-)
Another great job. Awesome. Wish my dentist could do as good a job on my teeth

Hi there i've read most of your video descriptions and i didn't find any references about your pdr light wich i find it amazing. Could you put a link or some description about where to find it?.It would be great thank you .
Hi Andy, thanks for your question, you won't find it on any website as I made it myself! I may do a video at some point showing how I made it:-)
@@1st_track_dents I was thinking about building one myself but could not find a proper casing nor do i know where to start looking for it . I'm looking forward to see your video.
Great job ! Is this umbrella strong enough for a raining day ? Where did you get it ? Thanks 👍
Yes, it's great, nothing special, it's from my local fishing supplies shop in town.
@@1st_track_dents thank you 👍
great job, I wonder how long you heat the paint and the distance?
You just know how hot to heat the panel from experience. You don't get it too hot, only as hot as the paint would get on a very sunny day (slightly hot to the touch) and on those days I don't heat the panel at all as it is hot enough just from the heat of the sun, although in the UK, those days are rare 🤣
It would be great to know how long these repairs take as time is of the essence.
As always great job. I would be curious to see during your closing shots a time summary. I find my self wondering how long most of your tepairs take you.
With the filming, this probably took around 3 hours or so:-)
❤❤❤
the only thing I think would be more helpful on these videos is the technical name and description for the tools being used; at least for me anyway. That way if I wanted to by that specific tool I would know the length, diameter etc. great videos!

👍👍👍👍
I would love it if you get estimated time on those repairs (if you weren’t filming), that’s why I say estimate.
What tools do you recommend for a beginner?
There are too many to mention, the Ultra Double Bend tool is a good start with a set of tips which is listed in the description, I use this one bar a lot:-)

@@1st_track_dents excellent, thank you for the education and taking time to reply with links, much appreciated 👍👍
@@JRH087 You're welcome. Maybe practice on a scrap panel first before starting on your own car so that you don't make any expensive mistakes, a hood/bonnet is always a good practice panel. 👍
@@1st_track_dents yes I have done quite a bit of panel beating in the past but only used hammer and dolly sets, and slide hammers by drilling and then the old filler and paint method, I know thats never as good as pdr so I'm keen to get a scrap door and some pdr tools and start practicing, I'd love to be able to do this for a living but I get the impression that you've done this years and are seriously professional, so I am doubtful my skills will ever match up to yours
@@JRH087 Everyone picks it up at different speeds, although as you have a panel beating background that will help you massively as that is what I did for a living and it really helps when you understand the physics of how metal moves. If you put the hours in, I don't see why you couldn't do it for a living. Good luck 👍
Rule 1 in car ownership. Park as far away from everyone else as possible at the shops.
A friend of mini who has an expensive BMW pays the mobile car wash staff at his local supermarket to put traffic cones around his car whilst he goes shopping! 🤣
@@1st_track_dents Mint.
How much the cost this size dent on metal quartel panel?
It depends as most rear quarter panels are double skinned and the arch section would be very difficult to get access to. If you have any photos of this damage you can e-mail them to me and I can let you know if it would be possible:-)
What was the temperature for the heat gun?
I don't measure the temperature, I just get the panel as hot as it would get on a nice summers day, hot enough so that I can put my hand on the panel still:-)
1st Track Dents oh okay! Thanks for the reply! :)
Do you never get stretched metal?
I can tell before I start a job if it is stretched or not, so wouldn't take it on, sometimes the dent almost stretches but there are some techniques we can use to bring it back:-)
@@1st_track_dents I wonder if you might get a chance to show us what that looks like sometimes. The repairs you make are amazing.
How Much for a repair like that?
@ about 8:29 isn’t the work done? I don’t see anyone you can do?
That's the problem in this job, we see more than everybody else!
What sort of cost for a job like this?

Aluminium is difficult
Yes, it's not predictable like steel, you don't know what it's going to do or how it's going to react:-)
@@1st_track_dents yes and it crack easily unlike steel. I come france i m beginer and i really like your videos
@@boxingbox8389 Yes it is a very brittle material, if you lever off of a part of the frame that is Aluminium it can easily split or crack:-)
