TIP Buy an elasticated belt (Amazon sells them in a variety of colours/buckles and they're not expensive) similar to the ones nurses wear. Tuck in your jumper/cardigan/top and fold any excess fabric over the belt to disguise it. The top will be "cropped" without tucking it into your skirt/jeans/trousers so there's less bulk.
This was very helpful! I love that you made a distinction between relaxed fit and oversized. I found the super oversized trend of a couple of years ago very off putting. I didn’t understand why so many petite influencers drowned themselves in oversized pieces from head to toe. But your approach is very balanced and does give off that effortless vibe that everyone is going for.
This video is so informative that I’m going to watch it again. Then it’s going to be time to try on - particularly a pair of wide leg trousers with a jacket for the fall weather. I’ll also be trying different shoes. Thank you for another great video!
I always show my waistband to create that 1/3 on top, 2/3 on bottom proportion. I won’t wear any top or sweater “out” that ends below the top of my hipbones at the longest; ideally, they just cover a high waistband. Anything longer I tuck in completely. My shape is rectangular and my long, slim legs are one of my best features, so I don’t want to visually cut off the tops of them. I always felt frumpy and that I had a “bad figure” in those days of long tunic tops over skinnies/leggings. The best thing I ever did for my style was to get rid of all those tunics and big, long overshirts when I realized the problem about 15 years ago. I’m surprised that so many women my age, I’m 64, still wear those tunics and brands still sell them, mostly those “mature” brands. I think the most unflattering thing we can do is wear really big, shapeless clothes to “hide figure flaws”. No female figure matches our society’s unrealistic standards, but they’re all beautiful and should be shown, curves and all.
This was a great video! I now have been shopping for a short/cropped jacket to wear with my oversized pants! I found your suggestions to be right on point!! Thank you!!
I am petite so I don't do a lot of oversized looks. I really like the coats you featured at the end of your video from the pictures you showed. Any idea of what brands these coats are from? You look fabulous in all your stylings.
A very well-timed (for me!) video - thank you Mariola, this is great! I've been hooked onto the suede trend and want to add a suede blazer to my wardrobe but the prices for women's styles that I love are too expensive for me at the moment. Most are cut to be oversized but I know that too oversized looks odd on me. Am looking men's suede blazers, which are a bit cheaper and will capture the oversized vibe (if I take the smaller sizes) in the body but then the sleeves are usually too long! What do you suggest? Thank you!
Hello and thank you so much for your comment. First of all, have you checked vintage shops and/or online pre-loved market. There is a lot of suede jackets and blazers out there, that may be perfect for you for a fraction of the price. In terms of mens suede blazers (new) I would suggest to try on and see how you feel. Very often mens blazers fit us women differently. I wouldn’t worry too much about the length of the sleeve if the rest of the blazer fits right. You can always take it to your tailor (if you have a good one) or live with it if it doesn’t bother you too much 😘
you’re absolutely right! this works for you and it’s great that you’re not influenced by someone blindly😅 your comment actually reminded me that I was going to add a little note in my description box about that. It’s funny, because I really like chunky trainers with wide leg trousers on others (well, some of them), but I hate myself in such combo. Thank you for writing this comment in a kind and respectful manner 😘
Oh hi! Ive just realised I haven’t added any links🤦🏻♀️ the bag is by the room Berlin www.trberlin.com/en/ but if you have any questions I would say contact the designer (a very lovely approachable girl) via IG🥰
Thank you for this video. I am petite 5'2", so I struggle with getting the proportions right. You make everything look so handsome and appropriate. One thing that I have such an issue with is the length of trousers. It seems that everyone's pants are hitting the floor. Even if just a little. I don't see how this keeps your bottoms from getting soiled or worn. Please help!❤
Hi Cathy, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I understand you struggle with long trousers. To be honest Ive never had any issues with my trousers being damaged or so dirty that I couldn’t remove the stains. My trousers are long, but they don't drug on the floor. I’m always very careful in wet weather or puddles, so I’d pull my trousers higher or fold the bottom, thats it really😉 as for your height, I believe it doesn’t matter if you’re petite or not, it’s more about your body type, because you may be petite, but still have long legs and very balanced proportions. I will never say that you can’t wear something, because you’re petite. Is there any issue apart from your height that you find challenging?
thank you so much for your comment. I actually can’t remember where the bag is from - there is zero branding on it(some kind of London small shop). But this is such a classic style and the croco pattern too, that I’m sure you can find it in a good quality, but affordable brand
I just don’t like oversized clothes on me, I’m too small and they just look ridiculous. My head and face are very small, as are my hands, feet and overall frame width. I don’t like tight clothes, but I do think those that show my shape are much more flattering. A slightly relaxed fit is ok, but I’m finding most clothes are just enormous and brands don’t always say they’re oversized. I have to keep returning items and re-ordering in two or three sizes smaller (I always order true to their size chart and my current measurements, but the clothes are much bigger than recommended by their charts). I welcome the slightly looser modern fit, but the emphasis is on the slightly. If I can, I buy petites and Asian-designed clothing, even though I’m of all-European descent. We aren’t all tall and large-framed like the African or Scandinavian models that brands use to show their clothes.
All those pants dragging on the ground/floor in the images is really unflattering, visually leg-shortening and sloppy looking, the chunky sneakers or other shoes just make them look worse. I don’t wear high heels (3-inch and up) either, but a slimmer shoe and a 1 to 2 inch heel really makes a difference, as does having pants shortened to the correct length.
Oversized fit that isn't too big (wrong size) looks best in my opinion. Great video Mariola.

All your videos are so informative and well done, I wish there was a double thumbs up on UA-cam 👍👍
I wear a cropped jacket with wide leg pants as a petite and it is such a great look! 👍
Love your videos. Thank you! Would you consider doing a video for petites at some stage. Would be really grateful. 😊
I recommend to check out the channel Daily Helen, she has some cool videos on petite dressing and styling.
Thank you so much!
This was a great video! I now have been shopping for a short/cropped jacket to wear with my oversized pants! I found your suggestions to be right on point!! Thank you!!
I just bought a uniqlo lightweight pufftech jacket like yours. Could you do a video styling it up? I love your style.
Enjoyed this video, the white man shirt reminded me of my youth in the late 70’s ! When I wore my Dad 😊
thank you so much for your kind comment. I guess it is a little bit 70’s, although they used to wear more pointy collars😅
Super helpful!! Thanks for this video!

Hi Mariola! Thanks for all of this interesting info. I really like the style of your jeans. Where are they from?
Hi Cathy, thank you so much for your sweet comment. The jeans are from &other stories, wide leg mid rise and very big😉

Nah im going to stick to my chunky shoes ❤ but i will take your advice when it comes to styling the top portion of my body. It makes sense.

@SlowDownInStyle You're welcome 🤗! And thank you for acknowledging.
I LOVE the black wide purse you wore with the black and white checked blazer. Where did you get it?
