@@MBS.SA6 True but maintenance cost per engine will be less than 4-engine plane due to ETOPS service requirements. And free from ETOPS can be a serious advantage on some Atlantic/Pacific routes.
One of the reasons i love these south african airlines, very nice and friendly colleagues from multiple backgrounds, this video made my day!! Thank you Just Planes.
The landing was so smooth that I didn't see when the plane touchdow on the runway! Congratulations to all the people involved in this awesome flight! Amazing video as always!! 👏👏🇧🇷
Love it when the pilots apply full throttle as soon as they come out of taxi and straighten on the runway center line, you just hear the engines go from passive to full on aggressive roar
Wonderful video as usual JP. Really loved this video, especially because the A340 is one of my favorite planes. I loved the professionalism as well as the respectfulness of the crew. Keep up the good work. :)
Thank you Mathew, glad you enjoyed the video and I agree, we've had some real luck being able to film a good amount of A340s over the years. In fact our next new release will be an A340 and I think the program is really fantastic... coming in 2 weeks.
Thanks Just Planes for not using any music. Other similar videos are ruined with music when we avgeeks want to hear the sounds of the engines , avionics, comms and environment!
No no no....his dream was for equality, the new ANC (after he passed away), is very different. SAA now employs only one race group and openly refuses to employ in any other way. The facts speak for themselves. The Airline is rife with corruption and racial discrimination.
What a joy to see the rainbow nation come together in this professional and pleasant flight deck! Congrats Justplanes and all involved in making this masterpiece...
@@chriswalker143 Ya that would have been nice Chris although I think the future is on 2 engines I'm afraid. They're so reliable now you no longer really need 4... although if you lose 1 engine 2-3 hours away from an airport I'm sure every minute will feel like an hour ;)
I was lucky enough to fly a few A340-600 flights with Virgin before they retired them. It was far and away the best plane I’ve ever flown on, and she is so beautiful externally . Having walked thru the cabin, it seems to go on forever.
A long flight. It reminds me of flying Air Canada from Toronto to Santiago, Chile in 2012, non-stop on a 777-300, the longest flight I have ever taken. Good job guys.
I flew the SAA 340-600 from Jo’Berg to Washington Dulles and it was the most beautiful experience. The -600 is one of my favorite airliners! So sad to see them going, and so sad to see SAA in its current state of minimal existence.
What is the reason for featuring a ceiling shot looking downward on the instruments and the pavement rather than looking directly forward during take off? It seems to be a protocol for Just Planes videos, but it prevents the viewer from actually seeing the plane lift off the runway, which is always an enjoyable part of this type of videos. Since everything else is so well-presented, it suggests that they're purposely catering to viewers who are more interested in the instruments. Is that the case?
Classic CRM at its best. Why can’t we all just get long and do what we love best!!!!! Come on man, behind that flight deck/cockpit. This is what saves lives to hell with anything else. Even if you have to rush home to see your lovely wife, it all good. See you next pairing. Well done gents

The A340 is one of the most beautiful airliners ever made, and it saddens me that they're disappearing.
4 engines cost alot of money
@@MBS.SA6 True but maintenance cost per engine will be less than 4-engine plane due to ETOPS service requirements. And free from ETOPS can be a serious advantage on some Atlantic/Pacific routes.
True, but the b777 was more economical 😓
The same was said when the 707 was disappearing.
Agreed. To bad Airbus didn’t put money into building a newer version of the A340 instead of the A380 money pit.
Impressively smooth landing. The A340-600 is such a graceful aircraft 😢
Love the communication in the cockpit!
Very seldom that you hear "please" and "thank you" in the videos.
👍🇿🇦
Fully agree. Thanks for watching and commenting John!
The South African culture too say these.
That's the SA way!
Beautiful comms etiquette.
One of the reasons i love these south african airlines, very nice and friendly colleagues from multiple backgrounds, this video made my day!!
Thank you Just Planes.
You are very welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I didnt't even notice at what moment he touched the ground
Landing was so smooth. The spoilers were like, “have we landed yet?” 👀
Excellent, Excellent SAA Pilots. Great work and nice landing. A true example of good Crew Resource Management!
Thanks for watching and commenting Kwale
CRM beaultiful
Smoothest landing.

Smooth as butter.... surprised you didn't have to manually deploy the spoilers. Gorgeous. Fantastic CRM as well.
The landing was smooth. Great video as always.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!

Took the same flight 2014 the same 340-600. We arrived in Johannesburg in the morning. Great service.

A super South African vibe in the office. Well done gents.

My dude nailed the landing, very well done to all in the cockpit, very enjoyable video :)
This is the smoothest landing I've ever seen

I love A340's, such a beautiful plane. I like the -200 the most, but the -500/600's Trent engines are fantastic and sound so nice.
Buli, that was Butter!
With South African Airways going under, I hope these guys have found good alternative airlines to fly with.
Thanks for a great video! Super rare to hear South African ATC on UA-cam.
You are very welcome Jared, glad you enjoyed it! And nice bonus on that ATC
So chilled out and comfortable. Professional's
What a grace ful aircraft The A340-642 really is. Its my dream aircraft to pilot.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
my favorite plane ever. It's just so beautiful...
It’s beautiful to see that Nelson Mandela’s dream came true black and white together in South Africa equals. 😊👍

And Indian as relief pilot
Mandela's dream was just that, a dream. South Africa is still the same.
I heard the planes on this route so many times coming in to Munich at about 6 am in the morning here in upper Bavaria.
What a joy to see the rainbow nation come together in this professional and pleasant flight deck! Congrats Justplanes and all involved in making this masterpiece...

Awesome view south Africa airlines crew i learn what i have watch this clips i will like to say vey nice landing thanks stay safe stay healthy....
3 pilots are great experienced with South African Airways!!! Cool youtube
Thanks Lawrence, glad you enjoyed the video
The a346 will be sorely missed
Agree with you 110%!!! A sad aviation day when they will be gone!

I really hope airbus will come back with another 4 engines plane in the future.
Just Planes yea new bigger more efficient 2 engine aircraft is the trend now

I saw a SAA a340-600 yesterday operating to Dulles. I was surprised the airline is still operating I sure hope they can continue.
Totally with you on that and indeed rumors were they would already stop and yet they're still flying so lets hope for the best.
Great teamwork and camaraderie
Once went to New York with this bird. Amaizing plane
I love Africa!
very nice landing, great communication between the crew and its nice to hear Please and Thank you, nice to see that people still have manners.
Pilot & co-pilot looks professional and relaxed.. Nice job👍
Hearing that thump, thump, thump as you roll down the runway whether takeoff or landing always makes me feel I grabbed THAT CART at the store. ;)
hahaha thats a very funny comparison and true :)
What a beautifull cockpit !
Truly awesome... sure makes a person feel safe, when you see what goes on!.. thank you!
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for tuning in!
Pretty sweet cockpit. Thanks.
Beautiful landing, great crew.
What an interesting video! Thank you so much, Just Planes.
thanks for this video. Great F/O ;)
I Love this Airplane ❤

It will be a sad day for aviation when the last A340 600 retires.
Shame I could never ride it then. I flew on the A340-300 once tho
I flew on a air Jamaica a340 to montego bay back in 2006 👍
Very true! And being that 4 engine planes are going quickly thats not that far away I'm afraid.
Dusk and dawn views were amazing.
Yes fully agree. A bit harder on the cameras as they don't know if there is or isn't any light :) but beautiful to watch.
Great video, wonderful pilots, footage was stunning, especially when looking on big screen like i always do with these vids. THX for uploading!
Thanks very much Alex. Glad you enjoyed it!
Impressive. You get a great sense of the workload involved even when everything is "routine."

Takeoff power 96%, flaps 20°
climbing performance 88% flaps off
cruising performance 66% (480 knots)
I still have fond memories of my first and sadly I think - last A346 flights, when I flew SAA FRA-JNB-FRA in February 2009.
I loved the A340-600 airliner! Not many around anymore.
Same here Bruce and very true
Nice flight, beautiful landing, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video Bill
Fabulous viewing and very involving recording. Thank you.
I love this craft over the A330 ,350,380 ,747,777,767,787,anything in existence

I loved watching the A 340s land. It's too bad they are not working out. I think Air Tahiti operates them still over the Pacific.
