    At this point, M. Night should just be paid to come up with premises for a better writer/director to execute. "From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan comes a Christopher Nolan film."
    Hell yeah!

      Big brain. He should be a producer, that would be a good role. Use his own money to fund his ideas made by other people.

      I totally agree with that lol. The man comes up with great ideas. And we need more of that when it feels like we’re stuck in the age of remakes and unnecessary sequels.
      But he just can never seem to deliver, execution wise.

      At that point you don't need M. Night anymore. Nolan can come up with his own premises just fine. M. Night should just hire a professional screenwriter or multiple and give them the premise and let them develop it without interference. His films would come out much better.

      @@ButterCookie1984They're talking about how M. Night consistently comes up with great ideas showcased in movie trailers that make you want to see them. But he has genuinely some of the shittiest execution, and one of the worst track records of anyone in the film industry of his stature.
      Name a household director who is widely known, and who's still working in Hollywood after decades, who fucks up as bad as M. Night has. He's made like 5 great films, and 20 pieces of shit.

      Exactly, his family is his kryptonite : he can't use his killer abilities when they are there, for some reason he's stuck to camouflaging himself as a nice guy, but he can't think straight (and even the camouflage doesn't work that well with them, they're the only ones who see through his lies)
      Also, he's still hoping he'll be able to cast that whole story away after getting his phone back, and he needs to get them away before doing anything violent or stupid, or they will definitely understand he's the butcher for good. He's still in compartimentalizing mode

    • @jordansweet8054

      Since they also establish he has OCD to some degree, I can see him not wanting to wreck a decent door after the fact. But in the theater it did bug me despite some interesting filmmaking with keeping so much action from the characters only available audibly and some good tension.

    • @JeanVlogDandamme
      @JeanVlogDandamme 5 місяців тому +2

      You can even see he can't think straight, as you can hear him asking "where's the bathroom master key ?" To his wife !
      The dude CAN break doors, manipulate people, open handcuffs with a rotten celery and locate every item, he's the OCD guy who has everything in order but suddenly he NEEDS a key, and HE out of all people asks where the key is ???
      It's to show us even his most basic abilities won't work in that situation, he's freaking out. Just like David Dunn can't even take a slap when underwater, when he has emotions Cooper is a 6 foot 5 little boy, unable to plan anything or lie properly. That's the whole POINT of the movie

      Seems he’s amazing at creating concepts but he’s horrible at execution sometimes. With this movie, he’s literally created an impossible situation and made one man tasked to get out of it. In real life bro would have been got quick, but because that can’t happen yet the thousands of armed guards, and employees, and guest have to be idiots. Which destroys the movie. It’s like watching the world’s greatest escape artist escape a room by breaking through the wall and getting out. It naturally just makes the antagonist looks not as smart as well because he might as well just walk around screaming “I’m the Butcher!” And nobody would do anything. Neat concept, done wrong.

    It just got really dumb near the end, specifically when Cooper straight up told Lady Raven who he was. I said out loud, ‘Why?!’ He was in the clear; the backstage person literally said, ‘You can use the exit to get to the car.’ Why the hell did he need to tell her he’s the killer? That made no sense, and it literally just went downhill from there. I tried to turn my brain off, but I just couldn’t.
    Edit: I know he would have been questioned by the cops, but it still doesn’t make sense for him to just straight up tell her who he is. In this movie, he already ran into a bunch of cops, and none of them thought he was the killer. He should have just taken his chances with the police questioning him.

    • @ricardotrevil3603
      @ricardotrevil3603 6 місяців тому +24

      Before he told Raven who he was, he couldn't just simply walk out because there was a whole bunch of cops posted at the exit. The PR lady told Cooper that he would just be questioned by the police for a little bit before he walks out. He had to reveal his identity to Raven and coerce her into telling the cops he's with her, so he could avoid being interrogated by the police and walk out unbothered. But anyway, I agree the script fell apart towards the end for other reasons.

    • @evandaymon8303
      @evandaymon8303 6 місяців тому +6

      If you pay attention to film as dumb as it is. there's good reason. A pr person said that exit he was going to take was going to be covered up as well. So there's no chance he could leave without being questioned. That's why he told her.
      Though hear me out and this is very much so dumb thing. If that happens in the way you thought it would. Then movie would been cut short and there was no plot no stakes (even though again script was stupid to begin with) nothing just hey i am leaving through this exit that doesn't have cops covering it good bye and movie over. Like that would be biggest cop out if you think about it more.

It's been dud after dud after dud with him to the point where I'm shocked that he's still able to fund and direct moderately high-profile movies. I guess even though he has one of the worst track records in regards to movie reviews, he still is profitable. It looked like the director just got his son to play the role. It also doesn’t follow the mo of an actual serial killer profile either. This made the killer seem tame and not scary at all. People need to understand the difference between a hook (a serial killer is trapped inside an arena set up as a trap to get him) and a plot twist (the protagonist has been dead all along). Both can be "surprising" and "subversive" but a hook is part of the Act 1 setup and you reveal that to the audience in your blurb/synopsis. Plot twist (delivered at the midpoint, climax, epilogue - sometimes all three in VERY twisty thrillers) are delivered anywhere from Act 2-3 and usually are concealed because they CHANGE the expectation laid down by the setup. Trap is NOT spoiling a plot twist. It's just simply a story that is HIGH CONCEPT and has a HOOK.

    The film was of course intended as a concert movie for Saleka (M. Night's daughter). The real problem was when the story as well as the pace of the film was subordinate to that, which was evident when the audience was forced to listen to complete songs even as Josh was trying to evade the police and FBI. While the original setting was already contrived to the extreme, the third act after they got away was so preposterous that it was actually insulting to the viewers, treating them as if they are all six-year-olds. By the time they got outside, Lady Raven already knew Cooper was the killer. She would identify him to the police and his family would know. Short of killing her or holding her hostage, the only thing left for him is to run. Yet he allowed her to take him home and visit his family. What was he doing - trying to pretend to be good daddy for an additional five minutes? As you said what Lady Raven did made no sense either, and the third act was simply there to let Saleka instead of Josh becoming the focus in the third act.

Why would you do that? It makes no sense to go to his home! Then when she gets there she tells the driver to wait outside. Why? He has a much better chance than you! Which also makes me wonder why a famous popstar has zero security but whatever. Then she steals his phone, goes in the bathroom and does an instagram live stream. Call 911!! Wtf are you doing? Then the ending where they for some reason want to capture him alive. This dude has killed and mutilated 12 people. Shoot him!! Then when he's being carried off to the jail these freaking idiot cops allow his daughter to run pass all of them and hug her dad. What protocol is this? What if he had taken the lil girl hostage? But the end with him getting out of the cuffs, I don’t think that’s supposed to mean “he’s gonna get free” I think he was actually just testing if he COULD get out. There’s no way he can get out of the armored vehicle and there’s no way the cops won’t shoot him if he tries to fight. Thats also why he’s laughing, because I think he was testing if he could sneak it on and open it and when he did, he gave himself that reassurance that he is still insanely smart and can fool the police at any point, but he knows he’s still caught. So he has a laugh to himself of crazed confidence and achievement

    Here's my pitch for a better version - pull a From Dusk Til Dawn with the same storyline.
    He IS a serial killer and they ARE looking for him at this concert, but then half way through, the singer/dancers/stage crew etc reveal they are vampires and turn it in to a huge blood bath by locking the doors to the arena and killing everyone... then Josh becomes the 'good' guy, (similar to George Clooney) trying to get his daughter and others out of there.
    Easy.

      Rob Zombie draws inspiration for his films from 70s exploitation films nowadays we might call them grindhouse films. These films are dirty, grimy, dark and show the absolute worst in human nature. If you are not into those types of movies then you probably will not like anything Rob Zombie puts out. For those of us who like that style which I will admittedly say is very few we're okay with it. As far as m. Night S goes he is far less consistent with his projects.
