Hey Michael and Jen. There’s an interview with Les Paul on the Musician’s Hall of Fame UA-cam channel during which he said that the real reason he had Gibson take his name off of the SG Les Paul wasn’t because he disliked them. Instead he said that the change came at the time that Mary Ford was divorcing him, and he cut ties temporarily with Gibson and his record company to keep them out of the settlement.
This...it was never about the guitar itself.
It was Mary this whole time... she falls out of love and the guitar world has to pay the toll. Typical woman. Lol.
@@zackattack635 Pay what toll? We still got SG's! Who cares of Les's name isn't on it. it's not a Les Paul!
George Lackey sarcasm.
@@zackattack635 Tone deaf much LOL
more reasons to respect Jen. made me smile to see you do that with trem. bar
Turned me on!!!!!
One of the best sounding electric guitars I have ever heard........
That first guitar song I could listen to all night! Mesmerizing playing and sound! The very essence of Cool!
Ah yeah, the Sister Rosetta Tharp Guitar. Absolutely legendary.
ROSETTA WAS THE BEST SHE HAD SOME BEAUTIFUL GUITARS .
LES PAUL AND MARY FORD HATED THAT GUITAR
I immediately thought of Sister Rosetta Tharp when I saw this.
The grandmother of rock n roll.
It pisses me off when people said that rock began with elvis. Elvis wouldnt be shit without sister rosetta tharpe, and she never got the credit she deserves.
Rosetta, one of the inspirations for Little Richard
@@zankyalbo2208 Chuck Berry sounds just like her .
The personality this SG has is remarkable. Also, thanks Jen for the instructional demonstration on how the Gibson vibrola works. She runs the ship😉.
When Jen says whoa after the 2nd song she knows Mike is playing with us again. Then he throws down on his own tune, my personal favorite and you have guitar of the day. On fire.
"You've got to push, HELL YEAH!"
This is this kind of a dream of any player.
2:00 thank you for not editing this out. Michel "Um" Lemmo learned something the same time I did. Thanks Jen.
What kind of bridge is it?
this guitar was played by the anatolian rock legend erkin koray he is so obsessed with this guitar rest in peace erkin koray you will be always remembered
I think this may be my favorite guitar of the day yet!! That thing sounds AMAZING!!
Such a beautiful guitar. The ‘61-‘63 SG Les Paul Custom and the 1957-1960 Black Beauties are my absolute favorite guitars of all time. Especially with fretless wonder frets
Damn it Lemmo your on fire today, great job as usual Jen, thanks for keeping Lemmo on his toes. Carlos must have been lurking in the corner.
This is the SG that Les Paul despised...!! because Mary Ford played a few of these. Yes Lemmo, that is the foldable tremelo arm..! This SG looks like it is ONLY 10 years old..!! I have a 1967 in the same color, with 2 humbuckers.. I sent it to Gibson 8 years ago for a refinish.. AAAAA+++
Go Jen,. Maybe you can do the guitars and Mike can do the camera?

Sister Rosetta Tharpe played one! And long before Hendrix. Shout out to all the underrated female guitarists who get overlooked by their male contemporaries.
THE GODMOTHER OF ROCK AND ROLL . OFTEN COPIED AND NEVER EQUALED ! NOBODY LAID THEM DOWN LIKE SISTER ROSETTA AND SHE HAD A GOLDEN VOICE , TOO .
Just when I think Lemmo can't possibly get any better, he kicks it up another notch!
The sheer amount of talent lemmo has amazes me, mad respect for this man
Great tone and looks. As always masterful playing.
I love this SG Les Paul Custom
The best demo yet...awesome
Thank you Jen ❤❤❤❤
Actually the middle position of the switch selects neck and middle pickup together not just the middle. On the first number I closed my eyes and Lemmo just sounded like Hendrix, brilliant!
Awesome job Lemmo! That rocked. Killer guitar 🤟
#1 on my "My Personal All Time Favorite Guitars That I Will Never Ever Ever Own In This Lifetime" list. King size kudos to Jen! Hey Mike, that hammer-on lead on that last jam was high level badassery! Rite on & rock on! \m/
Sounds so darned good with Michael playing.it.
Wow! What a guitar!! Great sound
Fun to watch, thanks!
Mark taught us all including Jen about Gibson SG "wiggle sticks "
Haha Lemmo got schooled by Jen!!!
Great guitar!!
Breaking: Lemmo turns into a beast!
Mighty sweet sg custom and some sweet playing from Lemmo. Thanks Jen for explaining the vibrola to him!
Mark taught Jen well. She filmed so many of these that she absorbed a lot.
Nice guitar and well played !!!!
Guitar sounds fab !!
Very good Lemmo. Killer looking and sounding guitar. One of my favorites 🎸
Excellent as usual!...🍁
YOU GOTTA PUSH
HELL YEAH YOU GOTTA PUSH
love a bit of lemmo ;)
Good vibes, nice playin' AND what a beauty from 61 Thums up, thx
I had one in early 90s. Played it out a lot. Never had an audience member come up to talk about it. Lol great gtr
Whoa!!! DUDE Lemmo been to the crossroads that was awesome!😎
Up above my head, I hear music in the air
Awesome axe ! Someday I'll own one ! Great playing as always Lemmo ! Thanks Jen ! 😎👍
Awesome!
never been crazy about the looks of this guitar but damn it sounds fantastic
My all-time favorite vintage solid body !!! The 61-63 SG Custom is my solid body "Holy Grail" and on my bucket list, especially if I can get one in the rare cherry finish...
LUXURY GUITAR
Sister Rosetta Tharp also played a very similar LP/SG.
Yes, thanks, I couldn't remember her name.
That thing sounds sweet. Looks like rock and roll too 👍
Wow ..... Lemmo. That guitar is awesome. Songs 1+2 took me to that place where I was just groovin' . I'm kind of dating myself there. Thank you .
great tone !
Sounds great, brother. I love the shredding stuff that's all over UA-cam, but sometimes I just want to hear some rocking out. Nice job.
Lemmo that bridge pickup tune was real nice! 😄🎶
Good job Jen 👍
In highschool I played in a post hardcore screamo type band. Honestly I think we had some pretty catchy songs for young teenagers. We had a friend who was basically our roadie. He came to every show and helped setup and breakdown the gear. He lived vicariously through our band because he was never able to learn guitar well enough to play. That didn’t stop his extremely wealthy parents from buying him a vintage sg. Occasionally he would let me play it during shows, but I couldn’t get over the fact that it was heavier, and sounded and played worse than my Tom Delong strat. Still that thing looked nice on stage. And while it didn’t sound as good, and it didn’t play as good, it made soloing feel like autopilot. I remember one show during a breakdown, the entire crowd started moshing harder than I’d ever seen a crowd mosh for us before, and it sent me into a trance where I just started playing the most complex and crazy solo I’ve ever conjured. I was able to sweep for the first and last time, the band realized quickly that I was breaking from the breakdown and followed along perfectly. I will NEVER forget that show. Sadly I will probably never feel something like that ever again. My calluses fell off recently and no matter what I do they won’t grow back. Even when they start back, they just fall off again. Very painful.
Looks like someone is auditioning for the Blues Cruise! Good Job, as always!
You guys are hilarious talking about the whammy bar. That’s a beauty!
Absolutely fucking amazing.
Wow!!!!!
You are making the video's great dude! The playing ofc. But the Talking and every Thing too!
Way to go! Jen!
What a beast
@JENLENS Guitar Aficionado Extraordinaire ! LEMMO hold this camera! LOL Rock On Mikey!
Got a 1999 custom shop reissue, my favourite Gibson!
Shoutout to Lemmo for knowing how to play a multitude of different styles at an extremely high level but not knowing how to use the wiggle stick
The trem thing...you’re fired!
Count em..3, I say ,three paf’s... thank you for sharing..great video!
Damn, that's sweet!
Jan after that trick on that whammy bar i m now waiting for you to pick a guitar up and play a tune or two 😜🌹 and Lemmo that a sweet sounding guitar very full in sound but what do I know 🤔🖖👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️
Nice job Jenn on showing Lemmo how to play with his wiggle stick ...
Very cool guitar! I think that Gibson sg is the most best guitar of Gibson
Add this one to the list of guitars I want but will only ever look at! Such a great guitar! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Grover's.......what a beast......sounds as good as any 59 LP
I have the exact same year exact same pickup configuration whole nine yards exactly like his guitar. Mine is that faded wine red where you can see the wood grain underneath?, It's got the ivory tip on the tremolo bar, nicest playing guitar I've ever had the neck is flat as a pancake.it was given to me by someone who died after they passed away it became mine.I could never afford to buy one and I will keep it until I die…..
That boy'!..can play'!..nice'! & that guitar' had to be gone the next day'!.👍
Guy from Alice Coopers band played one -great sound on Killer with it . Lemmo gives it some beans here ! Excellent!
the first song.. is that a song or just all improv? that sounded fucking awesome
1. This guitar has a pretty cool tone with all those PAFs
2. First thing I thought when I saw that tailpiece was "that looks like a Great Gatsby guitar..."and then Lemmo said the same thing! 😁
"Also you have this side-pull vibrato, which is pretty wild." Then is clueless as to how side-pull works. Thanks, Jen!
Hate blockers, but i love GOTD, one of the best sounding ones! Really liked the drums
That is one SEXY guitar! ❤
Last rack has a big The Hives vibe , very similar to Walk idiot Walk but in a good way.
How long have you been taking lessons from Jen?
Cool job Jen , student teaches the teacher
Mark taught that girl! ✌
Sister Rosetta.nice ebony fingerboard.
Hey Mike, the engraved
les paul custom plastic is called a tenon cover.
This guitar sound Amazing! Song at 6.35 please?
Dig it! would like to see Lemmo bust out some Elliot Easton licks...
My dad has one he picked up in Hawaii back in early 60’s. Unfortunately the neck got twisted. Now it is just a conversation piece
Damn Janie Hendrix.
Michael, too much time with Fenders haha..... you've never seen / used a vibrola ? What a killer guitar and great demo as always.
ok , I 'm getting more and more interested in the SG every time Lemmo feature one on GOTD , how can you argue with three PAF's , that there is the shit , any guitar with PAF's is gonna rock , and these SG's have a slightly sharper , crisper sound , still got the dirty grungy crunch and growl but a bit more top end , yes I'm likin the Les Paul SG , and this one is the boss , the one SG to rule them all. thanks guys.
What was that first song he played? I’ve heard it before somewhere
Have you heard anything about the body of an ovation ultra GP that I have ?
You’ve gotta push
HAPPY STRATURDAY! CLEANER THAN IVORY SOAP!
