@@Seventysongs He doesn't always do covers. Here's a video with a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop. The third track is his original track Angel.
This is probably the best strat Fender has ever made.
They made a strat plus deluxe in the same era that had a blue, silver and red lace sensor - it was pretty amazing too.

I just got a Warmoth neck for my Blue 1990 with the Wilkenson Whammy bar and Sperzels
I have an 89 Bahama Green strat plus AMAZING GUITAR on all levels
have a custom pick guard from tarapin guitars being made to accommodate the neck pick up and deeper cutaway
Those lace sensors are great underrated pickups.

I"ve always admired Lemmo's playing but he really took it to another level with this one. So effortlessly blending improv jams and blues classics with expert precision. Great sounding strat that I wish I could afford.

I have a 1990 Stratocaster Plus in Midnight Wine and love it. They play great and the pickups are noiseless.

Have the exact guitar. Perfection.
Bob Mould played the same model albeit with a maple neck and a blue sparkle finish. He’s still rocking it. In his autobiography he mentions buying it without plugging into an amp based on an immediate connection.
Loved Bob's playing since Husker Du. His model is a 1988 with the blue lace sensor in the bridge.
@@shivering_sky Hi, Michael, in case you're are interested, I've been tracking for years what Lace Sensor model Bob uses. Many years ago I read in an old Sugar FAQ that he used the Red, later I found that it was a Blue, but recently I've found a couple of interviews with Bob in which he talks about, among many things, his Lace Sensors. In one of this interviews, he claims to use mainly the Blue Lace Sensor (in the final gear sheet it is noted the he uses them in all the 3 positions). He also coments being trying different Lace color model in some of his guitars. Then again, interestelly, in a second and later interview, Bob claims to use the "Light Blue", and using only the "dark blue" (I guess in the Lace catalogue it's named just Blue) in the lead position in some of his guitar arsenal. He came many years ago with Narducy, Wurster and Rich Morel playing keyboards. I love the Strats Plus. great playing by Lemmo as always. my local guitar shop had one of these in Surf green back in the day. I still lust after that guitar.
Lemmo has become one of my favorite guitarists and these videos have been one of the few things in 2020 that have brought me joy. Look forward to them every day!

This one makes feel old. ‘89 I was 19 and had been playing guitar for a year. I read the guitar magazines religiously at this time, and remember some of the reviews didn’t care for the pickups. I think there was too much “new” stuff happening on this guitar for people.

I have a 92 Caribbean Mist Strat Plus I bought new in Aug 93. I paid for it with the first paycheck I made from my first "real" job after college. Not that anyone is asking, but I would never sell it.
Mine is tobacco sunburst from 93 and the history is exactly the same my first paycheck in a real job was to buy it .She still with my and allways will be.

I bought a Strat Plus new in 1987 when they came out. Had it rewired for different pickup combinations, and that was the best Strat I’ve ever had (and I had a ‘62 at one time)! I traded the Strat Plus for a Custom Shop Strat a few years later. Lemmo really nailed it on this one.

Lace golds do a thing. Some people hate them...but I love them. Just a nice bit of compression and thickness. It's a pickup for a specific sound and job...with no hum. I own this guitar .

Doug Martsch from Built to Spill has rocked a hardwired one of these for so long, I can only associate them with him. The middle gold lace sensor is the BtS sound man, glad they’re getting some love.
Funny enough, that's the sound that made me want to learn how to play guitar. The middle pickup is also a dead ringer for some of the early Death Cab tones.

And yeah Lace Sensors are damn good pickups, it's the Siamese Dream era Smashing Pumpkins sound too.
Uan hell yeah m8. built to spill has recently been one of my favorite bands atm, I've discovered them a few years ago, but never noticed them using those pickups! And Siamese Dream album also has a killer, unique sound I'm a fan
The whole demo was stellar, but once he turned that looper off during "Cocaine," everything went up to 12. I needed some toast with that jam! Scuttle Buttin' was pretty badass too! May not quite have had the killer tone of a 60's Strat, but whatever it may have lacked, Lemmo more than made up for!
ive got a 89 strat plus deluxe with the hipshot tremsetter as standard (it will not go out of tune, literally hardly ever) and the blue/silver/red lace sensors, sunburst ash body. has a maple neck with no fretboard on top. just a chunk of maple with frets, a nice round chunky neck but not too big by far. no mods whatsoever and its a seriously killer guitar that tends to go under most peoples radars. i wont sell it anyway but i reckon appreciation and recognition for these high end late eighties models will go through the roof one day soon. killer demo. are they all silver lace sensors? sounds awesome anyway, cool vid and nice to see one played to its potential.

I have a 91 stratplus, bought in new, had to get new frets installed plays like a dream now. Amazing guitar. Highly recommended if you want a fantastic used guitar.

Rootbeer....that makes sense. I have the exact year strat and mine is Midnight Wine....I thought Lemmos didn't look as nice as mine. Thought it was the lighting. Mine is burgundy wine color but no metallic

I used to own a 1990 plus, and let me tell you that was one of the heaviest strats I’ve ever owned, but it’s sounded absolutely killer. A lot of these plus models were super heavy so be aware 😂
Late to the game on this one, but what a great demonstration of the venerable Strat Plus. I have a 1992 I bought off my BIL in 1995 for $500 and he definitely regrets selling it. It's actually in my profile picture from when I was with my previous band. It was my main guitar and has probably been through a thousand gigs over the years. I now usually play a Strat American Professional II, but I wouldn't give up my plus for anything.

Lemmo that was a dance party! Way to rock the entire neighborhood!
During this time period, the signature series Strats for Clapton and Beck were with 3 Gold Lace Sensor (noiseless) pickups. Fender decided they didn’t want to pay out for another contract with Lace and so designed their own noiseless pickups. Many thought they never sounded as good as Lace’s. James Burton’s signature Telecaster still to this day has Lace pickups on them because he refused to change them. They just aren’t marked as Lace because Fender wouldn’t play nice. His are Lace Sensor blue in the neck, silver in the middle, and red in the bridge.
I have owned my 97 strat plus for like 13 years, and it's the only strat I play. Fantastic guitar

Yep I have an 88 bought new in 89. It came straight from the factory in Torino red, rosewood fretboard. Built like a tank but waiting to sell it. It was my first proper strat and it’s my last strat I kept. Using different guitars now. Yea and looks brand new thx to polyurethane coating.

I luv that color , very cool , and of course that classic strat sound , Jimi , Stevie , Eddie , Eric , especially when it's wide open and scorching , Lemmo has such touch and skill , from the slurs and slides , hammers and pulls , the taps , harmonics , clicks and mutes , he's all over the finger board and always finds his way home , so much fun to watch , and listen to , great guitar , great demo , thanks guys.

I love my '89 Strat Plus (Salmon Pink, Gallestum neck) bought new from Electro Music Services in Doncaster... my go-to guitar, over a lot of other nice guitars in my collection. As you say, the lack of hum from the gold lace sensors makes it so usable for laying down tracks in the control room. I made the mistake of letting my daughter have it for her 21st but very soon I was plying her with the 72 Rickenbacker she'd always had her eye on (but my first love)... I just couldn't live without my Strat Plus. Recorded with it only yesterday.
p.s. I was a UK exchange student at CSUN in '96, and paid a trip to Norm's. He was a real gent. Had our photo taken together, which I have on my laptop. Still hoping it'll make 'the board' one day.

The best ones they ever made. They were trying hard to rebuild the company after Kramer ran them out of business. They were trying new things, 22 frets. 9.5 radius, locking tuners, the wilkenson nut, the awesome lace sensors, the trem setter. They started actually paying attention to fret work. It started going back downhill in 93 with that horrible LSR nut. They they changed the pickups and it was over. 88 to 93 strat pluses are the best. The plus ultra is really something. I have a 91 and its the best strat on the planet.

These Strat Plus are some excellent guitars. I have 2 of these. Mechanically speaking, they are top notch, superior to your typical American Strat, IMO. They are real sleepers, with the locking tuners and roller nuts. Ones made after 1993 have the smaller LSR nut, which I like better than the Wilkinsons. Nicely finished frets. The rosewood neck ones have wide, flat blade like necks and alder body, the maple necks usually have ash bodies and more V neck. I don't especially like the Lace pickups but they're OK. A little sterile, but certainly loud.
