    Omg you posted again! I love watching your videos as a prospective MLT (Canadian MLS) student. I’d love to see more lab vlogs and other stuff relating to the lab but other lifestyle things would be good as well. That comment you showed was just someone hating to hate, don’t listen to them.

    I’m sorry you’ve been having these experiences especially in a space you love 😭(micro). I’ve been in Micro for 3 years now, straight out of MLS school
    Micro can be particular, but not wanting to explain and discouraging questions? Which… minimizes error is WILD. How can they expect you to become self sufficient and more confident if they won’t explain and share knowledge.
    Your journey is your journey! You got this!! Always look forward to seeing your updates

      It seemed like people didn't want to be liable for giving wrong answers to questions. I do remember times I'd train with one person and do something with the following tech, who wouldn't like it and spazz out. There was probably alot of behind the scenes that I wasn't aware of. 🤣🤣

      @@domilaraespazzing is wild. We talk procedures all the time and if we need clarity on the best way to move forward we always cross check each other. Cause that way if something happened with a culture like it was just “funky” more than one person would know what’s going on especially if an Infectious Disease Dr is following up about it.

      Hi! It’s okay, you got this! I hope you can find some time to rest. When you’re ready to get back to studying, maybe review practice questions for any sections you scored low in and practice test taking strategies.

    I hope it's not the last time you talk about your future aspirations and cons with the lab! Since finding your channel, I ended up getting a job as MLS, moving states for it (my home state required certification and I was misled in college gaining only a BS in biology), and living all alone. While I do like my job, I'm finding similar struggles I feel you're facing as, to me, it seems almost like a dead end. Yes, the pay is good, and so is the work-life balance, but there is going to come a time where I want more. Yes, I want to get certified and that is one of my career goals, and the job is currently scratching my itch for knowledge in my studying all of the generalist subjects to become a better tech. However, the room for growth into different roles as an MLS seems limited to me--I don't want to be lab manager, and I don't want to install analyzers lol.
    Your talking about grad school, working 3x 12s while doing it, etc, has given me a newfound motivation to possibly do the same--something I never thought I'd consider. So thank you for your content, your transparency, your struggles, your venting, your realness. It's important to see in a space where the majority of creators only rave about how amazing the occupation is.

      Thank you for sharing your journey! And congrats on getting your job as well 👏🏾 I think it's important to have a space to talk about the good and the bad - granted, I also think the bad things we experience is just apart of working in general for any career. But, social media is definitely overly positive 🤣 what do you think you'll go back to school to study? I chose micro/bioinformatics to learn a new skillset that I've been interested in for a long time. Having the chance to study something you find interesting or enjoy makes grad school more bearable 😂

    I'm so glad to find your channel! I'm definitely in the same boat as you-getting out of healthcare because this post-COVID ain't it. I have been a certified MLT generalist for almost 8 years and have worked at Micro for nearly three years. Working as a generalist minus Micro and blood bank had never been an issue until I moved into Micro. I LUV Micro, which was the whole point of me starting this MLT-MLS journey. The most challenging thing about working in Micro is accommodation, as I have disabilities, and breaking the stigma of having people with disabilities working in a lab in general.

      Thanks for the suggestions! I can definitely do that. I'm studying micro/bioinformatics and it's been just like undergrad classes but on steroids lol. Way more readings and assignments plus projects and presentations in every class. I only really looked into fully online programs that allowed me to take classes in life science and programming. What kind of majors/programs have you explored so far for grad school? And, what would you like to do long-term?

    Honestly, I would rather try other fields now, than to regret it later on in life. I recently graduated with my master's in Bio, worked my thesis in a microbial pathogenesis lab (V. cholerae), did some TA and did some really cool things with researchers from the different microbiology labs. Although I am still interested in academia, I decided to apply to a masters in laboratory medicine because it gives me a sense of security and stability, and can also help me to have more into-depth knowledge and thus more qualified to transition to be a medical researcher, particularly in clinical microbiology. I think we all have our different routes, we just have to work for them and not settle when much more can be given!!

    Never stay in a toxic lab. There's many out there that are quirky, weird, but awesome. So, you asked why you work in healthcare. I would answer it by saying the lab is a stable guaranteed job that makes an impact on patient's lives. We are the 3rd arm of the the holy trinity of healthcare: Doctors, Nurses, & Lab. The bulk of the work we do isn't glamorous, but those unique cases we see make everything worthwhile. You come off as a personality type that would do well in education or be able to fill a liaison role in larger hospital systems to train doctors & nurses about the key importance of the lab.

    • @domilarae
      @domilarae  5 днів тому

      Thanks for the advice! You’re absolutely right, we help so many patients everyday in the lab. I just learned that some hospitals have MLS who teach in the post-bacc mls programs and still get to work in the lab as needed, it seems really interesting! I’ve never heard of the liaison role. Is it intended for PhD/DCLS?

    • @Dar843
      @Dar843 5 днів тому

      @@domilarae The role I speak of has only ever popped up at some hospitals as an actual job position (rare). It is mostly just an additional role some people perform. Seen it usually at locations that include students for clinical rotations. It may be part of lab clinical educator, or rolled into QA officer, possibly even under the umbrella of infectious control department. It really depends. I would not say its intended for PhD/DCLS, but more so as general instruction in orientation to new hires or the key point person who handles reeducation to noncomplying employees for lab related stuff.

    I always read on forums that histotech is chill and has early hours, no weekends and no drama just cutting, embedding and staining slides sounds like factory work but ,pay is decent and your mental well being is not affected. I worry a little because I want to go in the field and I read a lot of stories of toxicity and stress in general, I'm considering if I do go through with the program to do a specialty either in histotech or cytometry I think this is for paps what are your thoughts,?
