Love the encounter! Glad you got to experience it and get it on film, but "wants to charge".....I think not. Just checking out the distraction to him getting a little funky...
Not a good idea to be around them in rutting season only two things on their mind at that time its best to leave soon.glad you got to walk away from it.
these are not man eating Elk. Why perpetuate more fear? These people pitched their tent smack in the middle of the Elk grazing trail, the Elk were kind enough to go around the tent invading their grazing space. Be aware folks, dont intrude. Be respectful of the wild ones and check your fear at the door...
Beautiful amazing creatures, but I wouldn't want to be that close to them, or any wildlife. It can be so dangerous people have been gored to death. You were lucky!
Eh elk aren't very likely to mess with you it's the moose you gotta be worried about. Moose have absolutely 0 fear or respect for humans they will try to teach you a lesson if they think you have violated their space. Elk are either people habituated or absolutely terrified of humans and if they are habituated they will usually just ignore you for the most part. Just don't corner them while acting like a threat. Wild elk will just run away unless they can't. Even habituated elk will usually move along if you send some signal that you don't want them to be there.
@@aspjut Just breathtaking and can’t understand why this hasn’t gotten more views, even years later! Maybe change the description, mention the cow & calf also as this deserves to be seen !😃. Awesome capture and thanks for sharing !👍
btw, you put your tent in their space. Notice the Elk droppings near your tent? (not from these Elk) They were remarkably patient with humans who plopped their tent right in the middle of their grazing trail! why do you all have so much fear of the Elk? They rarely if ever "charge". Just be polite. You are in their territory. Next time look around the ground before you choose to pitch you tent, Be respectful of the Wapiti. I have lived around them for 25 yrs.
This is at campground with lots of people around and only 1 mile from town. The night before the same bull charged on a car and gave it a couple dents. The campground gossip was that he had moved in a couple weeks ago and started causing trouble.
thats gotta be a memory that will never be forgotten.. tent camping is great but omg with those animals i would be in my van
Not so easy to remain calm, but you did and so he didn't charge - great moment, awesome video.

These elk are used to being around people
A bit fidgety and the other person refuses to stop talking lol but im thankful you uploaded this video
Where were you, how far away were you, was that a zoom lens?
We were in a tent with no where to go. The calf got close enough to touch. The bull was 20 ft away. My phone did the recording.
