Odds are Xivu is just as clever as Savathun, given her mastery of war and tactics. She's chosen all of her fights very carefully and not struck without reason.
Yeah, it's simple to think of war as just brutal and straightforward, and while Xivu might be that, there's utility in at least trying to have strategy. We know she's more than willing to perform operations to weaken opponents by using cryptoliths against them, turning friends against friends. While Savathun may have had a hand in the fall of Torobatl, the fact Xivu was able to raze the homeworld and throne of the Cabal is no mere feat.
While I wouldn’t go as far as calling her just as clever as Savathun, I would agree that underestimating Xivu would be a huge mistake. She didn’t get to where she’s at by being a sucker. Xivu has definitely got her own bag of tricks, unique to herself.
I mean she outlived the other two for a reason. Oryx had too much faith in his strength, savathun made a calculated but super risky bet, xivu is alive for a reason
I like how Xivu Arath is more than your typical war god. She fight not only in the physical but also the psychic/mental plane as well. She isn’t brutish but strategic and intelligent. I can’t wait to see her.
She attacks with mean words and sometimes by running away and siccing hive boys after us. We attack with bullets and if you're my friend costco, an entire armory's worth of grenades and a very, very sharp knife on a stick.
To reduce the scope of war to that which is merely physical is to reduce the total number of weapons you can bring to bear. The victorious General goes to war only when victory is assured. The defeated General goes to war to regain victory.
Something interesting to note with Xivu Arath is the way in which she speaks. The speech in the of truly godlike beings is never indicated through quotation marks, but through a very distinct way of typing, which for the Traveller is for the text to look |like this|, for the Witness is ||like this||, for the Nine is various different examples, and for Xivu Arath is LIKE THIS. Another interesting note about Xivu Arath comes from the Manticore's lore tab, Savathun says she is not war itself but she calls Xivu Arath it's avatar, implying she does have some synonymity with War as a concept, like how the Traveller is not the Light itself but it could be viewed as the Light's avatar, and the Witness could be described as the avatar of Darkness. Just a little tidbit I thought was interesting, but it could have troubling implications for the future, as if Xivu Arath really is synonymous with the concept of War, she has truly reached the apotheosis even Oryx tried and failed to achieve.

Random thought but I found it kind of interesting that Xivu has been the first Hive leader since Crota to really use the seeder ships. Really highlights the stark contrast between the three siblings, with Oryx bringing his fortress with him to attack from safety, Savathûn not directly attacking but instead using trickery and influencing others to attack for her, and now Xivu who has brought back the seeder ships and introduced the cryptolyphs for full ground assaults.

That's because they all are weapons partially rebuilt by a foundry, with seraph blueprints recovered from the dungeon. Some of them have lore text talking about it, like the glaive, which is made with a fragment of the hive knight that attacked us at the ritual at the end of season of the lost.
When the Onslaught begins in the Season of War, it will be a conflict unlike any we have faced. Each battle will be as intense and brutal as Six Fronts, Burning Lake, the Great Disaster and Twilight Gap. The Vanguard and its allies will be hard pressed on all fronts. Only a strike at Xivu Arath herself will stem the tide.
This last year has seen me learn a great deal about D2, both how to play and lorewise. And though there ARE many great content creators, your good work is EASILY some of my favorite. As a truck driver, listening to your efforts have made MANY a road trip both bearable and educational. So for that I say both Thank You and Happy Holidays!
Hey Byf, first I greatly enjoy your content it's very intriguing and interesting. Also this video in particular where you talk about how Mara Sov and Xivu Arath are battling in the Ascendant Plane. You mentioned their battle was a psychic battle, how I perceive that being done is by the words they use and the intent behind it being manifested into action which is how they damage each other. A good video depiction of a psychic battle using words and intent like this being done is in the Netflix series "The Sandman" specifically episode 4 titled "A Hope in Hell" the specific time mark to watch it is 29:58 into the episode.
Love the vid byf. Tefact we herd Mara say it’s difficult to move forces in the ascendant plane and yet xivu managed to defeat far bigger and stronger foes with military training in the cabal. We don’t stand much hope, given xivu acknowledges Mara is big in of itself with laughing off the blow when Mara is wounded doesn’t bode well
I’m hoping we see Torobatl as a war planet always liked the idea of Torobatl being this huge cage for the traveler Xivu makes so the witness can drink it’s light without struggle. But I doubt that’s gonna happen.
I think they'll probably save Xivu and her main contingent of forces for a post Final Shape expansion. I could see them showing up when Xivu is *the* main enemy after the Witness.
I think it's cause for concern that Xivu sees Mara as a worthy foe. Xivu seems like the kind who shows respect to a worthy foe by not playing around. By rallying all her forces, all her might, and bringing it all down on that foe. When the Hive God of War comes to our doorstep, she'll come to win. To prove herself worthier of existence than Mara. Here's hoping that, one way or another, our city ringed in spears can repel her might and deny her plans for victory.
Bro, this is Destiny. The only chance of us not winning is if our character isn't playable, like in the beginning of D2. Otherwise it'll be another series of grinding up our level until we can once again shoot the shit out of this world threatening baddie.
Reminds of of an analysis of 2001 Space Odessa where they compared a conversation at the stat to the violent confrontation between early man in the prologue. We are still in clocking and still at war, but we have traded weapons made of bone and stone for one made of words.
If it ever comes to it and we actually have to fight Xivu I hope it's like a cross between Rhulk and Oryx, where you have symbols that represent different characters and actions relating to Xivu herself, and interacting with these allows us to outthink her as Mara does here. It would be fun to have a raid that gives lore nerds an advantage in that regard.
Whatever happens, I hope that at some point, be it the end of this season or at some point during Lightfall, I hope we fight Xivu. And I hope it is a challenging, intense fight.
I agreed with you and i am very curious to see xivu arath throne world look like because i want to fight her in the end of this season in her throne world
As soon as you said keep an eye out for people among our ranks that are a little too obsessed with the hive, I immediately thought of Eris. On top of that we already have a full lore entry about how in another future Eris was the one who led the darkness forces against us. It's unclear if she will in this time line but it's definitely something that I think about.
The battle between Mara and Xivu Arath kind of reminded me a little of the battles in Tolkien's Silmarillion where the divine beings would battle with words or "song".
Queen Mara Sov can fight, and not just with magic. From Revanche V lore entry: "Mara needed to be seen vulnerable, silver-haired and narrow-eyed, hurling herself at the enemy. She fought with pistol and dagger, and her brother moved like a wraith at her flank. Her people were ashamed of their timidity."
“There is nothing else but philosophy to a dovah. It is no accident that we do battle with our Thu'um, our Voices. There is no distinction between debate and combat to a dragon. Tinvaak los grah. For us it is one and the same." -Paarthurnax
Xivu Arath out here like "Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you."
GAH! So interesting! Does that mean Mara Sov may have invoked something of hive nature akin to the deathsong, essentially, "will as daggers"?👀. Fascinating
Something very interesting I noticed in this lore is that it says Xivu sheathed her "Spear" not her sword. In most of the images we see of her she has a sword (if those are to be taken as cannon), but here it describes her with a spear. I'm wondering if this is actually a glaive and Xivu has truly becomes a disciple?
Stuff like this makes me hope they start to do novels. Which on the flipside, it kind of scares me also because I know that they are starting to work on a television show or something like that and I hope they don’t do what halo did, and go away from the lore. I really hate it when a Director takes creativity freedom and wants to put their own stamp on a franchise that people love.
Judging by some of there hires lately looks like the show is very much handled in house, so at least in that regard I have a feeling we don't have to worry about a "outsider" trying to do a Destiny show.
Guardian to Xivu: "Your sister's dead, your brother's heart is in my scout rifle, and I stuffed one of your gods into a sniper. What kind of weapon will you be I wonder?"
Hive corruption? Hrm.... Osiris was held captive for an extended period of time, and currently is awake due to imbibing a concoction made from 'distilled darkness' from the Reliquaries of Nezarec... How long before he turns or is found to be a pawn/traitor? Given the verbiage he uses in the opening cinematic speaking with Ana I think the foundation for his 'heel turn' is being laid..
Hopefully story wise in game we start losing to the witness and his minions. We keep winning and beating them back every season so they don’t feel like such a threat. Bungie needs to make them win battles to make us feel like we’re actually pitted against a true foe

And to the people who are basically downvoting me if I’m proven right then I deserve an apology/j
To add insult to injury, one of xivu's sons is a basic taken enemy.
I wouldnt rule out hearing from her.
A video about the seasonal weapons is a good idea. A related note: all of the Seraph weapons have secondary Origin Traits from the Foundries.
That's because they all are weapons partially rebuilt by a foundry, with seraph blueprints recovered from the dungeon. Some of them have lore text talking about it, like the glaive, which is made with a fragment of the hive knight that attacked us at the ritual at the end of season of the lost.
Xivu Arath's Spear would make for a nice exotic glaive
Ohhh much fun with this one :) have avoided peeking at lore tabs -- your presentation Byf adds much more :)
When I read this lore tab I literally thought to myself “ohh can’t wait till Byf does a video on this.”
👏👏👏 Outstanding! Byf....When Bungie and Sony make a Anime for Destiny, they should definitely get you to narrate the story. 👍
Love the vid byf. Tefact we herd Mara say it’s difficult to move forces in the ascendant plane and yet xivu managed to defeat far bigger and stronger foes with military training in the cabal. We don’t stand much hope, given xivu acknowledges Mara is big in of itself with laughing off the blow when Mara is wounded doesn’t bode well
That was badass.. remember in Big Trouble in Little China when Egg Shen faces off against Lo Pan in that projected battle? This reminds me of that!
Another great lore video Byf!!
I see their writers are making an excellent take on The Oldest Game, or Wizard's Duel. Love it.
Do you think we’ll finally get to see war moons when we face xivu?
I’m hoping we see Torobatl as a war planet always liked the idea of Torobatl being this huge cage for the traveler Xivu makes so the witness can drink it’s light without struggle. But I doubt that’s gonna happen.
Doubtful it’s Bungie. Maybe, and that a big maybe, in a cutscene but I doubt it’ll be in game. 🤷♂️ maybe I’m just being pessimistic.
I think they'll probably save Xivu and her main contingent of forces for a post Final Shape expansion. I could see them showing up when Xivu is *the* main enemy after the Witness.
I love how their fight in the ascendant plane is basically them just roasting each other.
Byf, if we get lore on it can you mention what we did with sabathoon’s remains in a future video
Already did, Eris did an autopsy on her
I would bet money on someone turning her corpse into a gun.
@@Kurotaisa Problem is that, I don't think that can really work on a guardian/lightbearer until they are permanently dead.
Love the idea of Mara and Xivu having a rap battle before it all genuinely kicks off
Reminds of of an analysis of 2001 Space Odessa where they compared a conversation at the stat to the violent confrontation between early man in the prologue. We are still in clocking and still at war, but we have traded weapons made of bone and stone for one made of words.
Byf got back from vacation, did a line, and started cranking out vids like its nothing!
Why does it feel like the awoken are engaged in what can essentially be their own dlc campaign whenever we check back in with them
If it ever comes to it and we actually have to fight Xivu I hope it's like a cross between Rhulk and Oryx, where you have symbols that represent different characters and actions relating to Xivu herself, and interacting with these allows us to outthink her as Mara does here. It would be fun to have a raid that gives lore nerds an advantage in that regard.
So Xivu and Mara had a roast battle and now they actually gonna throw hands.
Bro, your editor needs a raise. Man's using leitmotifs in UA-cam videos.
Dude xivu just hit Mara with the "come at me bro" card. Damn tho she brought her brother into this. Literally pulled a "hows ur sister?" Hahaha.
Lol I love the mental roast battle.
Holy hell. Go Mara. Definitely one of my favorite pieces of lore as well!
Love that Mara and Xivu literally just had a battle of trying to come up with a burn worse than the others lol
I never clicked on a Destiny vid so fast. Mara fighting.. I hope my girl can fight😎
Queen Mara Sov can fight, and not just with magic. From Revanche V lore entry:
"Mara needed to be seen vulnerable, silver-haired and narrow-eyed, hurling herself at the enemy. She fought with pistol and dagger, and her brother moved like a wraith at her flank. Her people were ashamed of their timidity."
@@LuxintN7 I hope we get to see her in action since we’re finally seeing a lot of Lore stuff since Beyond Light 👀
@@Sxraj so do I!
“There is nothing else but philosophy to a dovah. It is no accident that we do battle with our Thu'um, our Voices. There is no distinction between debate and combat to a dragon. Tinvaak los grah. For us it is one and the same."
-Paarthurnax
"in truth, you are not war, merely its avatar"
"IM IN YOUR WALLS"
This honestly made me think of Sandman's "The Oldest Game," where Dream went against Lucifer
New lore video let’s gooo
Diss tracks and Rap battles in the ascendant plane would be a bloody, gory sight !
"ahhh you mad"
"look at where you workin"
"look at where you eatin"
Xivu Arath out here like "Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you."
Not gonna lie chief, I took one look at the thumbnail and asked "am I supposed to be surprised?"
This was amazing!
GAH! So interesting! Does that mean Mara Sov may have invoked something of hive nature akin to the deathsong, essentially, "will as daggers"?👀. Fascinating
So Mara and Xivu engaged in a psychic diss battle?
Neat
So it’s basically Sandman vs. Lucifer callback? I LOVE IT
Oryx: I work *with* you. Not *for* you!
Savathun: Change Teams? [Yes] No
Xivu: As you command, Daddy Darkness
Something very interesting I noticed in this lore is that it says Xivu sheathed her "Spear" not her sword. In most of the images we see of her she has a sword (if those are to be taken as cannon), but here it describes her with a spear. I'm wondering if this is actually a glaive and Xivu has truly becomes a disciple?
Somebody at Bungie definitely watched/read The Sandman and thought 'Hey, that word battle with Lucifer is pretty tight!'
From three to two and now we are on the final chapter of the worm siblings. We've come so far guardians
Xivu and mara going at each other back and forth like an Xbox 360 modern warfare 2 lobby.
This was essentially just like the battle of dream and lucifers in the sandman show
Stuff like this makes me hope they start to do novels.
@@Awoken_Remmuz Man I hope so. Thanks for the update!
Her words are sharp, her thoughts malicious. The queen parries and counters.
"No U."
I always thought the painting of the 3 hive sisters had Oryx in the middle, since both Oryx and the middle sister have swords.
That battle in the Manticore lore reminds me of a moment in Sandman, albeit turned into a dis battle lol.
Cayde: “how’s your sister”
Xivu: “how’s your brother”
I always thought that was Oryx in the middle of that picture of them
Like two bards casting "Vicious Mockery" at each other
This mindscape battle reminds of the duel between Lucifer and Dream.
A hive Wargod that stands down.. hmm someone’s looking for an out
I find it hilarious that they're literally just dissing eachother lmao
The way Xivus song affects our player is wonderful. They make the hive lore feel alive in the game
This manticore lore reminds me of the fight between Dream and Lucifer in Sandman.
I keep thinking this fight looks like the sandman scene where he battles lucifer like this
So essentially a fight in the ascendant plain is just a roast battle.
Hopefully story wise in game we start losing to the witness and his minions. We keep winning and beating them back every season so they don’t feel like such a threat. Bungie needs to make them win battles to make us feel like we’re actually pitted against a true foe
They are just Pre-game trash talking and i love it.
A new perpective on 'a war of words'...
