    How slow are alcohol burners? Is there any difference in boil times between the classic 1940 M40 Swedish military mess kit and the young upstart contender from Dave Canterbury's Pathfinder School (Self Reliance Outfitters)? The old one is much heavier gage steel so must be pretty slow to boil right?

    New sub here...I've been watching a few of your videos concerning th PFM40 because I've been wanting to purchase one...and, I have been impressed so far by all the videos thus far.

      Welcome, thanks for subscribing and checking out the channel! We really are using our PFM40 a lot since getting it, you won't regret getting one. A new Trangia set costs a lot more and they are aluminum, which we don't care for. With the steel potstand on the PFM40 you can even light a wood fire inside which we will demonstrate soon..

Man-O-Man, is that out of my price range...I just purchased the PFM40 today and hope you don't mind me mentioning you in a video when I get it...

    Coming from a Yank - I love the metrics, as it's so easy to use. But then again, I lived in Europe for 6 years too ;). I'm very happy with my PFM40 from Big Dawg Dave Canterbury. Good content and thanks for sharing. Hiram would approve.

    The pathfinder m40 is not as sturdy as the original Swedish m40, but for the money it is a good value. Keep in mind it does not come with an alcohol stove, cup or alcohol container as did the Swedish m40.

    • @ebikecnx7239
      @ebikecnx7239  24 дні тому +2

      You are correct, the Pathfinder PFM40 is a great design and we like to use it. Any ideas why the older, heavier M40 boils faster?

    • @buckshot4428
      @buckshot4428 24 дні тому +1

      @@ebikecnx7239 That's a good question. I would have thought the lighter Pathfinder would be quicker. Maybe it's the difference in the steel as the Swed's are known for their quality steel.

    the problem with the Chinese titanium spirit burners (any brand) is apparently none of them have any wicking material inside the walls

    • @ebikecnx7239
      @ebikecnx7239  29 днів тому +3

      Yes, they burn very hot and fast too. Inefficient but put out tons of heat if you need just to boil water only.

      Vargo Ti burners don't have wicks. Reclaim fuel easily so no leaks to taint pot.
