    These were some great tips Glenn! That silent entry is key. For me, I have something I call the "kill switch" that I use when spinning around docks. It's basically a split second pause on the reel handle exactly 3 turns into the retrieve - doesn't matter how close the bait is to where I think the bass are - it's just 3 turns, kill switch, and then a full retrieve back to the boat. Smallmouth can't stand it. I think it might have to do with how the blades irregularly scatter the light as they fludder downwards. But it's only for less than 1/4 second. Picked up the technique after observing the "distraction effect" - how fish tend to sometimes nail the lure when we get distracted in our retrieve by a conversation/call or something in the environment. After some experimentation, I found that it works better earlier and only ONCE in any given retrieve. Still don't know why that is.

    Used be I would only throw a spinner bait, texas rigged worm and a carolina rigged worm or lizard. Have added other stuff over the years but the spinner bait is (and the other two mentioned) are still a go to.

    Tons of good info in this - thank you very much. Would you throw a Colorado blade spinnerbait along rip rap if you were fishing from shore and the water was dirty (say 1 foot visibility), or would you opt for a different presentation? That's my current conundrum...

    When you say you're expecting to get hit right on the initial drop into the water, are you casting directly onto an ambush point? I understand you're casting softly, but I've always tried to cast several feet back as to not spook the fish? Maybe I have to cast more directly and just focus on soft entry? I'd appreciate your insight, thanks Glenn!

    • @bassresource
      @bassresource  4 роки тому

      Not necessarily "ambush points", but areas where fish may be shallow. If you watch the video segments where it shows where I'm casting (including the catch at ua-cam.com/video/M66IbvVguac/v-deo.html), you'll see I'm not casting to "ambush points", but rather shallow areas where the fish are lurking. For example flooded bushes or riprap. If there's a specific "ambush point" I want to target, then I'll cast past it and bring the spinnerbait by it first. If that doesn't get a strike, then I'll cast again directly at the spot to see if I can get a different reaction.

    Agreed 100% Spinner baits and 360 GT Search baits are my Top Confidence Lures! Also I do disagree that they don't look like anything ... Yea but spinner bait is meant to replicate a Few fish schooled ..I mean maybe not exact but there reactive cause they hunt with reaction due to no hands to grab and hold to examine!

    Love a spinnerbait! Toss it under a tree line or next to a stump. Hits the water and instantly take off reeling and BAM that hit.

    Do you like to add a trailer or a trailer hook to your spinnerbaits? Thank you

    • @bassresource

      I always use a Zoom twin tail trailer, and never use trailer hooks. Never had a problem with hookups, plus I often throw into heavy cover where trailer hooks always hang up.

    I disagree that a spinnerbait doesn't look like anything in nature. Maybe when it's in your hand it doesn't but when reeled through the water a spinnerbait looks like a small fish chasing a group of smaller baitfish. Drives bass crazy!
