Wow, really fine work. I’ve often thought about the notion that craftsmanship from the past was superior to many fine hand made things today. With modern improvements in metallurgical processing and materials, in the hands of a skilled artist I believe that in the future people will marvel at the fine pieces hand crafted today. Congrats on creating a fine eye popping beauty, that will be appreciated for centuries. . (I really want to have one, but it belongs in a museum of art display rather than me using it to remove the innards from big game animals or cutting steak at the hunt camp supper table).
@@peterparsons7141 what a spectacular comment, thank you for this. I agree, with a ballance of hand tools and machine tools i think some excellent work can be achieved, and I think that the possibilities with modern tools can be very intriguing to the maker and viewer!

WOW!!! Just.. WOW!!! What an absolute BEAUTY!!! I already commented but came back to watch this video again, you are a truly talented knife maker and video maker, the quality of production is really well done and you have just secured your spot as one of my favorite knifeming youtubers, keep it up man I can't wait for the next build video!!
It's obvious that you've been doing this for a while. You're very methodical and calculated in everything you do and it pays off in the finished product! Very nice work!
Hope you don’t mind a tip/suggestion. Use Overhead Protector/ Acetate sheets or even clear report covers(like we use to use in school) for handle slab templates. Since they are clear you can get a better idea of where the best figure is in the material you are using. Learned this many years ago from a wooden box maker who did this in figuring out how the wood pattern of his boxes he was building. Works great for knife handles too.
@@Triumph2727 no worry with nickel on the edge, there have been extensive studies done on the effect of nickel on the edge, more recently by Doctor Larrin Thomas in 2023. As for the chromium content of AEB-L, it is around 12%, the manganese content in metal is what allows the steel to darken.
Your tool collection eliminates so much work with precision. I was told the only difference between a Bowie and a San Fran Bowie is it's lighter, smaller, and fancier. That's probably not true.
@@AndyFromBeaverton I suppose the San Francisco(name) style is mostly because of the knives that were made by the Will &Finck, and the Michael Price shops. The term took off quite soon as these knives were made in the 1850s!
But that's too much, the most people dont like see the hold work and every little complicated step that you do, they wont to see the finish line product.

This is one of, if not the best, videos on UA-cam for showing an in depth build. What are the dimensions on a San Francisco Bowie?

AEB-L and Nickel? How does that contrast work? I can’t wrap my head around it!
A strong enough acid will eat the stainless! The nickel remains untouched!
@@jvbknivesI know but with the chromium content l, is there an acid that turns stainless dark? Also Id be worried about the nickel on the edge.
And AEB-L has a high Manganese content, therefore it has a dark etch result.
Make a knife with stainless titanium nickel and last copper twisted reverse stacked
Only if it's allowed to have a minigun mounted to the handle also.

Opportunity missed!!!
