I was surprised how much the parts were blued after the first boiling/carding. After six applications the parts looked as good as new. Great job!!! So With confidence, I'll get to work on my handguns.
Wasn't sure if I answered this already but yeah after the initial etch coat it will take rather quickly. Only thing is it will turn a beautiful blue after a few carding passes then a black blue once cured but you can dial that down to taste if you like with the carding brush and lots of oil.
you said you let them sit overnight in wish liquid? can you please explain the last part of this video to when it comes to finishing this bluing process? thanks
well you coat the parts with the bluing solution and let them sit a few hours (depending on the amount of humidity you have) to overnight (ideally no more than 8 hours). Once you are done with the whole process, I wash the parts thoroughly and after blowing off all the water, let them sit overnight in motor oil. Ideally synthetic non detergent, but most any motor oil will do.
