The SK F-15s had the right to engage, but the command consisted of brain dead people, and the pilots didn't have balls to tell them to shut up.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. At first it made sense, but the moment that MiG started shooting all bets should’ve been off. They caused more casualties by waiting for permission for that long.
@@Queue_Thrills A whole plan loaded with fuel and weapons is still a pretty huge thing to allow to fall in a populated area. Still think they should have taken the shot due to other reasons, but if all you care about are civilian casualties, they still made the right call.

Control should’ve given them clearance the second the hostile strafed that parking lot but decided to hold off on it, essentially taking the lives of 4 airmen in the process, and risked the lives of the rest of the combat team.

In reality the enemy fighter entered South Korean Air space. The pilots know exactly what their mission is and they have no need to get permission to fire from ground control. The point is once they were launched it is automatically a shoot-down situation for the pilots best judgment.
@@mrgrinch837 The engagement protocol is much different in peacetime than war, particularly for non-aggressor countries that are interested in not starting an accidental war. They didn't have a pre-determined mission either since they were scrambled. Considering the restraint the South shows towards the North, it's not too far fetched.
@@delos2279 I was stationed in the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea for a year as a attack helicopter pilot. There is one protocol, if you're sector is attack you fight back. There is no second chance. They would shoot us down in a heartbeat if we strayed over the DMZ as well as the air defense systems are always up and armed. There is no so-called peacetime protocol in South Korea is there was an Armistice signed, not the end of the war.
@@mrgrinch837 I'm referring to ROK, not US forces in Korea. The Status of Forces Agreement does not cover military operations. US forces can do things differently but obviously they don't automatically shoot down unauthorized foreign aircraft in their airspace either. Almost no country does and pilots do not have that authority during peacetime (your first comment was factually incorrect). The decision would go way higher than that. You also mentioned the DMZ which is once again a vastly different peacetime protocol designed to help prevent an accidental hot war. Anyway the explicit reason in this case was the civilian population center which of course would be a major concern for any country. Any competent military would have different protocols over their own country's cities, if not cities in general.
The second the MIG fired the f-15s would have had authorization to return fire in self defense. The controller in this scene should be court martialed for incompetence.
LOL... when the controller tells the F-15s to not return fire after they have been fired at and hit, the only respond he is likely to get is "FUCK YOU!"
Fantastic video , had me on the edge of my seat ! I served on the Korean DMZ back in 1972 and me and my buddies were strafed by a low flying MiG 21 . Scared the living hell out of us !

After watching that ground control single-handedly lose dozens of civilians, and a military pilot, I wouldn't be surprised if one of those South Korean pilots defected. That was the most incompetent ground controller I've ever seen, movie or not.
I have come to dislike the bombastic dogfight scenes, in favor of the grounded and tense ones. But the Ace Combat music makes this very enjoyable. Good choice of tracks!

This has got to be the most idiotic dog fight I've ever seen, and it's amazing because of it! I mean even the Death scene is so over dramatic, heroic and cliche! LOL This is HILARIOUS and FUN at the same time. So unrealistic, and I don't care! The Ace Combat music is probably what makes this so hilarious - the on screen dog fight is about as stupidly unrealistic as an Ace Combat game but so over the top at the same. BTW that MiG Pilot is a total badass, villian and skill wise. Geeze. He owns the hell out've the SK Pilots and even Tokyo Drifts a sky scraper with his exhaust for maximum level Chad.
reminds me of the scene in Shin Godzilla when the JSDF not clearing their helos to fire because of a couple of people despite Godzilla already tearing through Tokyo causing thousands of causalities.
Shin Godzilla was being purposely obtuse however because the Japanese leadership really truly is that bureaucratic and afraid of failure. Shin was a brilliant critic of Japanese society and politics. This scene here is just for the lols and graphics XD

Миг -29 - фронтовой истребитель малого радиуса действия, а также воздушный боец экстра-класса. Визуально он раза в полтора меньше. Так что в ближнем бою он бы американца размотал на раз-два за счет более высокой маневренности. Любят они сопоставить несопоставимое.

While this is a movie, ground crew are surely going to get court martialled and surely air training emphasises initiative than direct obedience to superiors nowadays, especially in East Asian flying schools after a crash in 70s with hundreds of casualties.
Was this based on the real life encounter? Because even though the MiG 29 is superior, it all depends on the pilot. They sure did in the real life encounter. The 15s have only been shot down by one thing...time. I don't think an F-15 has ever been shot down by enemy fire, but a couple times they broke apart by (what I think was) metal fatigue. 😔

Absolute failure from Korean Airforce (in this video).. I think there would be more plans to neutralize the enemy, otherwise its very easy for aggressive enemy to enter in a city , wreck havoc and fly back safely. i need to watch the movie.

@@mrgrinch837 I'm referring to ROK, not US forces in Korea. The Status of Forces Agreement does not cover military operations. US forces can do things differently but obviously they don't automatically shoot down unauthorized foreign aircraft in their airspace either.
Almost no country does and pilots do not have that authority during peacetime (your first comment was factually incorrect). The decision would go way higher than that.
You also mentioned the DMZ which is once again a vastly different peacetime protocol designed to help prevent an accidental hot war.
Anyway the explicit reason in this case was the civilian population center which of course would be a major concern for any country. Any competent military would have different protocols over their own country's cities, if not cities in general.

The Ace Combat music is probably what makes this so hilarious - the on screen dog fight is about as stupidly unrealistic as an Ace Combat game but so over the top at the same.

reminds me of the scene in Shin Godzilla when the JSDF not clearing their helos to fire because of a couple of people despite Godzilla already tearing through Tokyo causing thousands of causalities.
Shin Godzilla was being purposely obtuse however because the Japanese leadership really truly is that bureaucratic and afraid of failure. Shin was a brilliant critic of Japanese society and politics.

hell no, the MIG29 isn't superior especially not the NOKOR MIG 29's.. the eagles will eat them up for breakfast..
They sure did in the real life encounter. The 15s have only been shot down by one thing...time. I don't think an F-15 has ever been shot down by enemy fire, but a couple times they broke apart by (what I think was) metal fatigue. 😔
