My guess is they needed something harder to go around the paulownia; while its very light its also a very soft wood, capping with spruce or maple would help protect it from dings and whatnot. also, paulownia is a very porous grain and capping it with a closed grain would help keep the finish from being absorbed too much.

    • @hkguitar1984

I grew up in the 90s when glitter and sparkle finishes were ultra popular, so I always dug the silver sparkle. I always think of the Fender promo video of the GoT guitars that had Brad Paisley, Scott Ian, Tom Morello, and Nuno Bettencourt, and Brad really holds his own with those shredders. Rhett Schull did a video a couple of weeks ago that talked about the different tone single PU guitars.

I haven’t played one of these yet, but I bought the Brad Paisley signature Tele the week it was released in 2017 and it is worth every penny that it cost.
It is the best sounding Tele I’ve ever owned. It has the best neck of any Fender guitar I’ve ever played and I’ve been playing Fenders since the late 80s.
I’ve been waiting for my local Fender dealer to be able to get one of these since they were announced, but they haven’t been available. I actually bought the Seymour Duncan Secret Agent pickup when they first released it, and I have it in an Esquire copy. Although, I don’t dislike the Secret Agent pickup I think I like the Twisted Tele neck pickup in signature Tele better. So for me the reason to buy one of these is the black sparkle finish which I think I would like a little better (but I do love the silver sparkle which looks so much better in person than it does in pictures or videos and the same is probably true of this one).
The two Brad Paisley signature Fenders are definitely not for everyone, but every one I’ve talked to who has one (and most people who have played them) feel the same way about them as I do.

I’ve had the original silver model since it came out and used it 5 nights a week at my gig in Naples. ( till it was cancelled back in March) I replaced the pots with Emerson stuff , put on a Glaser bridge, changed out the pick guard for a clear one and had the frets leveled. PROS: light weight, great fat neck, excellent pickups. CONS: volume and tone pots. I found this to be the best gigging guitar for covering a lot of styles and being comfortable. The light weight is really great and neck dive not an issue. I also had to replace the input jack because it wouldn’t work with my right angle wireless unit. I was really interested in this one but not after seeing this. You really can’t use these professionally unless you do about $500 worth of upgrades. Thanks for the review Austin. You just saved me about 2k.

  • @youkronify
    @youkronify 3 роки тому +6

I’m sorry. I tried. I really did. But I have to say something. Those of us who waited three years for Seymour and brad to finish the design of this guitar. The white string on the bridge pickup is because that is the way they were made. The reason for no case is because these are specifically designed for touring musicians. So like me they have a flight case waiting for this when they got it. Put a nut behind the electro socket and it is absolutely perfect. The neck pickup I. This thing was worth waiting three years for. I absolutely love most of your videos. But in this case I really wish you knew more about it before you made the video. Also your neck pickup sounds weak. Mine is equal when I go back and forth between the two.

Paulonia is a fast-growing asian tree (native to china and surrounding contries) it is HIGHLY invasive in the US, and was once brought here as a lumber crop tree when it escaped into the wild. It is characterized by its large leaves and purple flowers in the spring. It looks somewhat like ash, but It is most closely comparible to Eastern White Pine, as it is not dense or heavy (it is classified as a softwood). Its often used for trim mouldings, siding, and some furniture. But it is lighter than pine. Its is the second lightest wood after balsa. Be careful with the screw holes, they easily strip with paulonia because it is so soft.

Pickups don't pull on the strings in any meaningful way unless you run them up way too high. The Esquire traditionally has one switch setting that bypasses the volume control, and another with just a pre-set tone capacitor. That's what gives it the BANG instead of the spank of a Telecaster.

There was a time in the late 80s/early 90s when I could sell a Paulownia (whole tree) for $8,000. The craze only lasted a few years but made me a good bit of pocket change. These trees were sold (not for instrument making that I know of) and shipped overseas for some type of Japanese bridal gift. It's interesting to hear that the wood is also used for instruments. Maybe someone will come back by to buy some more from me, lol.

Never thought I'd ever say this...i absolutely hate it.(well dislike it intensely. IMO the neck pup as hot as it reads, it's a real yawn fest. Of course it's just my opinion.(hated the early 80s Elite Telecaster as well). I think it's over priced. I'll stick with my 1992 USA Telecaster, w/TBX, 6 saddle bridge, & 5 way Super Switch. Mine absolutely screams. If course the 5 way gives me Bridge/Both 1/2 out of phase/Both parallel/Both series/Neck. Sounds great. Like to see you do an early 80s Elite Strat, & Tele (you can hear & see, whoever dreamed up the Tele was obviously smoking something very few can afford). Sorry it just didn't make my heart pound. Of course it's just my opinion, but I'm sticking to it. Thanks.

I'm glad to see Fender is finally utilizing nitro on their Mexican made stuff. They especially have been using such a gross, gloppy poly finish the past few years making alot of their Mex made stuff feel like it came from China. Honestly it was a better deal to just go with an Indonesian made Classic Vibe Squier for $400, buy a set of Fender pups for $100 and drop them in and you'd have a Mex made quality guitar for $500. Now that some of their higher models are using nitro, that really helps bridge the gap to convince someone to spend the extra money on a MIM Fender instead of just going with a top of the line Squier. Hopefully Fender will start using nitro on their entire MIM line eventually.. I'd be more than happy to pay an extra $150 on a Mex made guitar if it has a proper finish.

not picking (no pun intended) on this video in particular, but why is every single video for guitars and amps the same heavy picking blues twang. You CAN also play the strings smoothly. Any amp and any guitar can do the blues thing; it's literally why you only need a plank of any wood really, to do it. I always want to see if these hollow/ semi-hollow body things can pull off Jazz tones. Amps too. It's not as easy a sound to get to; and if it can, it makes the amp or guitar that extra mile(s). Frustrating. But hey, I'm just a fucking weirdo.

I love the guitar and I love Brad- incredible player, and I might buy one of these beauties.
Having said that, the point Brad makes and you repeat in the video about the V neck being based on fitting snuggly into the natural shape of your hand with the thumb joint forming a V at its base is just silly, and reminds me of what all humans do; make decisions based on emotion, and then find some kind of rational sounding argument so we can tell ourselves that it was a more logic based decision.
In actual fact, the hand position that would result in putting the V of the neck right into the V of your hand, would result in your fingers being almost completely immobilized when it comes to chording, stretching, and being able to reach all the strings anywhere on the neck; the V of your hand should be much closer to the lower edge of the neck than the center of the back of it. Try to find a clip of Brad playing where his hand is snuggly gripping the neck with the V of the neck resting right in the V of his hand. Good luck; it ain't gonna happen.
Think of it this way: the guitar, while only involving some of our smaller muscles; wrist and hand, is nonetheless an athletic pursuit, not a resting one. If we were looking for something to grip comfortably, then a knife with a molded handle with grooves for your fingers or even a steering wheel is a better bet; but of course that's all silly, as is the original point.
If you want to be able to get around and do a lot of chords and riffs, the "V fits the V of your hand perfectly" is about as logical a point in its favor as touting the virtues of a running surface based on it having nice molded butt indentations for when you get tired and just want to sit on it; that's not the purpose of a track and fitting the V of your hand isn't the purpose of a guitar neck, or at least it shouldn't be.
