Today I am welcoming a new guitar into the family!
Let me know if you'd like me to compare it up against a Les Paul, Tele Deluxe, SG, or something else!
    Have a great weekend :)

Very, very nice looking and sounding. Darrell, would you be able to post a link to the model and year you have there? Is that custom or stock build? I wasn't seeing that bridge/tailpiece combo on any Duo Jets on their site, but I'm not super familiar with their lineup either. I prefer the look of the tailpiece you have vs. the 'V' tailpiece on the non-Bigsby equipped Duos. Again, I'm definitely not well acquainted with their lineups, so I could be overlooking something obvious in trying to find a match for what you're showing here.
I always appreciate your videos, whether its demos, comparisons, tips or teaching. Thanks for sharing!

Japanese built Gretsch are far better built than the original US ones. Almost too high end ! Enjoy your new guitar. And yes after many years I even want a Gretsch. After seeing this walnut streamliner in a local guitar shop. I picked it up and quickly realised I loved it. I was kinda all shakey all over ! Soon I will have to get one !

Agreed. My 2012 is from the Narada, Japan plant, and the only word to describe it is "exquisite". Those TV Jones pups have a huge tonal range, and the natural (no-fx) sustain is the best I've ever heard. Heck of an instrument, right?

Nice Gretsch mate !! 6 months ago I bought my first. Gretsch, a hollow body G5126.....I've never been as impressed with a guitar I've bought as I am with my Gretsch. I really like it and I'd say that it's taken over as my favourite guitar.
It has the de Armond dynasonic single coil pickups as opposed to filtertrons but I also have a La Cabronita style tele and that has a set of TV Jones Classics and for me they have 1 of the nicest distorted tones of any pickup and I think that's why Gretsches like the Duo Jet and the ex ACDC guitarist Malcom Young's Gretsch sound so good....and that's because of that overdriven filtertron sound again inside of what is more or less a Les Paul type body, and I think that's the perfect recipe for a good rock guitar.
But whether it's rock or otherwise, I love most Gretsch guitars, solid or hollow.

I own two Gretsch guitars and I love them both. The Pro Jet (the entry-level version of your guitar) upgraded with TV Jones Classics and the Electromatic 5420T (big-box hollow-body w/Bigsby trem). While I have other single-cut and hollow-body guitars, none sound or play like a Gretsch. There's just something so very unique to them - something even a Duesenberg can't replicate.
Someone once told me that the Gretsch instruments can't do jazz or hard rock. With some Thomastik-Infield flatwound strings, my hollow-body is a jazz king. With the TV Jones Classics, my Pro Jet can handle AC/DC (the very definition of hard rock) all day long. These guitars may not be the most versatile, but they're not stuck in the jangly surf-country-rockabilly niche either. And they are just a joy to play.

The .tone switch is nicknamed the Mud Switch. :-D Not everyone likes them, but I love mine. In the middle is tone full one like Tone dial at 10, Forward is tone half way down as if you had rolled it half way, and Back towards you is Tone off as if you had rolled it all the way down. Have Fun!!!

    • @DarrellBraunGuitar
      @DarrellBraunGuitar  6 років тому +3

      Thanks!
Yeah, you have to use a little low adhesive painters tape to hold the bridge in place when changing strings - or just change them one at at time so the bridge doesn't move. Other than that, it's no hassle.
      Bigsbys are pretty sweet though!

Many players bash the 'mud' switch, but I find it very useful. I set my amp brighter than normal, then use the down position to bring back the bark and growl for PAF type sounds. When I need a bright country tone or sparkly clean I put the mud switch in the middle (bypass). Mud switch up is fat and amazing for solos.

Ok first your playing is awesome loved it as well as your technique and the album cover...like half your face(a bit of a nod to the Beatles was it Meet the Beatles) and also like saying this is just part of me...there’s more. Kudos my friend.
Second wow I usually poo-poo technology because it seems all people do is text or Facebook(or ahem UA-cam...🤭) but for you to put out your music and reach an audience without heavy costly studio time(I think) and for me to be able to listen to it...wow. To use a Seinfeld quote(in his high pitched voice) “I’M BLOWN AWAY!!!”

      Thanks SP!
I really appreciate you taking the time to check out the album ☺
I definitely agree with you; technology can open up some amazing doors, but also can be really unhealthy (social media) for us!

Always wanted a gretsch. Bought ajet club 5425 used. Upgraded electronics supposedly. Seymour Duncan at the bridge and tonerider vintage at the neck. I actually really like this guitar. It feels super nice. Been eyeballing a 2420. Just a beautiful guitar.

What about comparing it to an epiphone dot or something similar?

Darrell Braun Guitar It was yours I believe in a dark blue and white pickguard. Don’t remember if it had TV Jones pickups though. Probably too many switches for me.
