Come on Gretsch, you need to give the original owner who sold the guitar to George the White Falcon he always wanted. The PR value of the gift would more than outweigh the cost the guitar, and would be fitting Karma for what sounds like a nice guy.
@@Mathcartney I came to say the same thing too! Come on Gretsch, the PR aspect of the gift is more than worth the value of the guitar. And it's fitting Karma for what sounds like a good guy.
Great George Harrison Beatle stories - Koch says bohemian like it's a bad thing! Ha, great stories and even Greg was listening with the joy only a guitar nerd can muster hearing the history of rock and roll - COOL!!
Dude was wrong, he said George played a duo jet on “MeetThe Beatles”, L.P..WRONG! The LP was “Please ,Please me”. On Meet The Beatles, George had a Gretchen Country Gentleman.. two different guitars, same company..AWSOME guitar!👍👍❤️it’s sound..👍👍
Great story! Another great musical storyteller I love listening to re: the birth of his lyrics is Randy Bachman form the Guess Who. Its all on u tube where I've been living since Covid 19
ua-cam.com/video/gwfH9oAiPH0/v-deo.html In case Greg didnt know how they did the intro chord to Hard Days Night? I gotta learn that one on my 12 string
George played the Duo Jet on the Please Please Me album and the early UK singles. By the time The Beatles recorded With The Beatles and I Want To Hold Your Hand in the late summer/autumn of '63, he'd progressed to the Gretsch Country Gentleman. John's first Rickenbacker was spray painted black by a guy who worked in a paint workshop where he painted buses! When John lived in the Dakota Building in the 70's he had it restored back to it's original natural finish.
What I didn't hear them mention was that George sold the guitar when he upgraded to the bigger Chet Atkins models, sometime in the 80's George was reunited with his old guitar and featured it on his newest album (at that time)
I have one of these, It has quickly become one of my favourite guitars. Amazing. I only wish they had dyed the fingerboard darker to simulate Brazillian rosewood.
I love that they have reproduced & reissued the Duo Jet in George's honor but why in the world haven't they done the same or more for the Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar. This is the model that everyone knows and the model that helped to popularized the Gretsch brand to the world in 1964. I know the original guitar fell of the top of the van and was destroyed but George had other Country Gents after that guitar. Makes no sense to me. That is the guitar that should have the signature model in his name.
white falcon. . ok . . but the reason why the two guys are sitting there is because of george! . . the one guy always plays impeccable! . . he should have at least played 20 ish seconds of meet the beatles from george! . . ungrateful! and unprofessional! . . i love you george! . . i own a 2001 tennessee rose because of my love for george! and robert smith! . . soon to get some dynasonics t-armonds from tv jones! thank you george! :-) ☝📖👼💖
@@GG-ng9vs George had at least 3 Gretsch guitars; the Duo Jet, Chet Atkins and Tennesseean with Hi-Lo Tron pickups used on Words of Love. He might have had 2 Chet Atkins models. I think one got busted falling off a vehicle.
can someone help me whats the diff between this and the 1959 gretsch duo jet im not asking about pickups and all of those stuff but whether one can handle more distortion or stuff like that and the genres it can play as well as the sounds they produce thanks
Same spray can of paint? Come on. Do your research. Lennon’s Ric was painted by a coach painter in London. Hand painted. NIce story but completely speculative and self-serving.
And that`s how a man loves his job: Joe Carducci. Man! Also Greg's chops are insane!!
Yup. And... yup.
😀

Yea, and not one of those new ones either.
5 years later, and I was thinking the exact same thing.
It was the PLEASE PLEASE ME Album,Meet the Beatles was the slapped together American Album.
For the part he played, Gretsch should give Ivan Hayward or his family that White Falcon he never got the chance to buy.
man i came to talk exactly this!
@@Mathcartney I came to say the same thing too! Come on Gretsch, the PR aspect of the gift is more than worth the value of the guitar. And it's fitting Karma for what sounds like a good guy.
You read my mind! I thought the same exact thing.
Me too…I thought the same thing. I was waiting for Mr. Joe to say that…it never came
Yes, Gretsch! How about gifting to Ivan Hayward either a White Falcon or a White Penguin (White Falcon equivalent of the Duo Jet)?

This mans playing always leaves me in awe. Incredible talent.
Yeah, and I think Jimmy Bryant (from his opening tune fragment) would be humbled and in awe too.
Awesome insight into the history of this great guitar and the legendary man who played it! RIP George.
The Duo Jet was used on Please Please Me...George played his Country Gentleman on With/Meet the Beatles
Man,
if there is a mythological guitar in rock'n'roll history, this is it!!!
I would love one of those - or Rocky, or the Rickenbacker..
Amazing. A demonstrator player that can actually play.
Greg Koch is a monster picker!
you should definitely start every demo video the way you guys started this one. by quickly playing every position clean and overdriven.
What a great story! Beautiful guitar!
Sweet! And yes, great stories!
Damn Greg. You are a fantastic guitar player
Great musical history lesson from Professor Koch.
Well. Actually Joe Carducci. But Greg's a good listener- and stupefyingly good player.

Awesome review. Very top notch.

awesome sounding guitar! and great stories about it!
monstrous. just monstrous. the greg.

Moral of the story. Don't get married and you can take a trip to New York City and so keep The Duo Jet and get a white falcon 🤣
Salvatore Puccini you never met the girl man- she surely was a beauty!
Hang on, his wrong, he used this guitar on Please Please Me album. I believe the second album was the Country Gentleman.
I love Gretsches with DynaSonic (DeArmond) pickups! Filter’Trons are cool too, but DynaSonics got that twang!
Greg you made that Gretsch sound like a pedal steel, without the use of a slide, you rascal!
I am 99% sure that this string gauge used on this guitar in the video is not suited for Beatles songs and the sound George Harrison had.
I bought a Gretsch Duo Jet, with Bigsby and TV Jones PU's, Ebony Fretboard, great guitar, I just do not like the toggle switch tone selector.
Me too. What is the point of the 'mud switch'?

You can tell Greg isn't too crazy about the Beatles
Why didn't Ivan get that White Falcon??? (Inquiring minds want to know)
how do those pick ups compare to the tv jones classic......

This video needs more Marshall amps.
I love Gretsch vids in front of pics of Marshall stacks. I would only play a Gretsch outta a Fender or a Vox in my opinion.
George '"s Duo Jet had DeArmond pick ups not dynasonic
Franco Vani Gretchen called their DeArmond pickups, Dynasonics. Same pickups.
They are the same
this beauty is so shameless overpriced
What song did he play in the beginning at 0:32.
Daft Photography It’s Night rider by jimmy bryant
Come on, man! Play some Beatles songs on it! :(
Was It Not A Gretsch Chet Atkins He Played?
George did have 2 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman but this was his first Gretsch.

More about the instrument, less about the lore.
