Audi is the sexy luxury brand and they have decent technology but real luxury equals technology and powertrain in modern times so yes Audi is always going to be last among Porsche, Mercedes and BMW. I do believe this is better than the current S-class.

The front end is all over the place, lacking cohesiveness. The front overhang also looks a tad too long. The interior however is a class act. Probably the best in business today. Yes, I think even better than the S class IMHO.
Totally right. The proportions are okay, but not sexy. No sexy hips, looking very static overall, the outside a Rolls Royce shape - for poor people. Man, when I think of these sexy, athletic 7 Series models from the 80s/90s… a shame…

This guy is trying his hardest to not mention Audi…almost purposely…especially when talking about grilles and DRL signatures. Everyone’s been able to spot an Audi from a distance since 2002 based on the grill and 2007 based on DRL’s. Just saying.
I think it lost it's elegance because now there are more sharper shapes and design elements and they made this too tall so it's more like an SUV. And the pig nose grille isn't helping either although it kind of melds into the dark front area of the M sport front. The interior is too simple and reminds me of the E60 interior that i never liked. But if you too took away the fancy elements and the BMW badging it could easily be a Skoda or something. I love BMW as a brand the most but from now on it seems that love is only for pre-2020 models.
i've said that about other cars but until you see it in person you really can't know especially for the large sedans , sometimes their shear size in person makes the design work and you come around and think ''hey this does look good''
I feel like BMW is dating their cars by following Hyundai,Kia,Nissan stacked headlight trend. BMW tradition never goes out of style, you don't have to throw unnecessary design elements just to stand out and be different it's still a BMW.
Yeah, first thing I thought of was they copied the ugly headlights on the Hyundai Kona. Coupled with the god awful attrocious grill, here we have the ugliest 7-series to date. Very disappointing. This head designer needs an intervention!!!
So the design grew on me. I HATED IT when I first seen it. I was like "BMW...WHY??? WTF MAN!!!" It has a profile similar to the legendary e38 (the best 7 series ever built IMO). But the grille and headlights are so controversial. Either you love it, or hate it. Or like me, it's growing on you. If I were to purchase this new 7, I would only buy it in a dark color, to minimize the awkwardness of the split headlights. The M760 is the best looking due to the split dark front end. The all electric i7 is the ugliest one. Unless it's in a dark color. This reminds me of the e65/e66 era when BMW first caused controversy with the "Bangle Butt". Don't forget, it was also the UGLIEST 7 SERIES according to social media and blogs. But it turned out to be the BEST SELLING 7 series ever! That bangle butt wasn't so bad in person I guess. It grew on us. So beware, you may hate this new 7 now, but end up liking it later. Especially if you have yet to see it in person.
So the little, inpractical screens in the rear armrest or Swarovski crystals in the day-time running light (MB had that already in the S Coupe/Cabriolet, btw) aren’t a gimmick!? Hmm, yes, sure…

Look up what gimmick actually means. Passenger screen is the most pointless thing in the car world. It was stupid in Ferrari at first and still is now. Hyper screen is also pointless, it’s just a distraction same with all those huge ambient lights. I’m will not be surprised if some countries starting the ban large screens in cars, it’s just accidents waiting to happen. The thing is that it still has got a (ugly) face - but no eyes. And that‘s the aesthetic point - a car to look good needs good looking, well proportioned headlights, its eyes so to say. If not MB, then take Audi as a benchmark to understand that and experience that in executional perfection.

to me it kind of has few similar lines to some of the rolls royce (their step brother brand) ,,, when i look at it from a front side angle (especially) i see a smaller more round edges rolls royce sedan
The split headlight design in my opinion is sloppy. They talk about separating essentials and style and that's exactly that. Before it was a perfect blend of the essential lighting and style of the daytime lights. Now it looks like the took the essentials completely separately and half passed slapped it onto the front... which sorry to break it to you... it's not hidden like they may think it is. It just adds another design feature that looks lazy and not wanted on the face of the car. Sure us designers dont want big bulky essential elements ruining our design but by doing this it's making it even more visible on this car. Bad choice. Imagine bmw integrated the two together like they always have but with those crystal daytime lights. I'm sure that would have looked extraordinary
if the gap (the body layer) between upper & lower light was thinner (half at least) i think it would of looked better ... in a darker color like in this vid it does look better doesn't pop out so much but on the lighter car that gap/body between the upper light and bottom light is very odd looking
@@mansgottaeat8879 I've come to realise that in the normal petrol engine versions where they have black accents surrounding the grill and lights looks way better than the i7 where it is all body coloured. With the black accents it sort of gives it the illusion of unity so in a way I can see where you're coming from for wanting them to be closer. However I think really where it all falls apart is mainly the other elements like the grill and the lack of structure at the bottom of the bumper that make these lights look very striking (intentional? Possibly) Even using their new design language with the lights but adjusting proportions and shape of the other front end elements will definitely make the cars design look more fluent and easy on the eyes. Otherwise I truly believe the rest of this care looks stunning
@@kinglewy9215 i just saw another video of the 2022 lincoln navigator and its new headlights design had split headlights also but the thinner headlight was on the bottom and thicker headlight at the top ,, wonder if that would of looked better on the 7 .... also was thinking if it's possible on the 7 to tint the lower headlight to make it even less noticeable but not sure if that's even legal , if you tint it and have a dark body/bumper color down there the only time you would notice it is at night when it's turned on
This reminds me of the E38 to E65 transition, polarizing. It has kept opinion divided even up to this day. It's getting hard to like BMWs, time for new buyers.
I'm a bmw fan, but not sure about this. Split headlights in my opinion loose bmw identity. Don't like this. 😒. Side view looks like the front has been stripped and is missing parts as if it is in the shop for repairs. Interior is interesting I like it. Rear is nice tho. They just lost this in the front!.
Reminds me of the bangle era when the 7 had a revolutionary and polarised design which made it stand out from its competition. The models that followed were conservative and had ‘safe’ designs due to which the S outsold it. This particular 7 is absolutely gorgeous; I love the exterior. It’s imposing and instantly stands out from the competition. Most people are sheep and initially will shun this design but it’s only a matter of time before this work of art grows on them. This design is gonna go down in the history books as one of the most successful 7 ever made. Bravo BMW 👏
I'm sorry, but Domagoj Dukec has to be fired, his design apartment single handily ruin BMW for years to come. I like the interiour, but the front is a huge catastrophe.
They are getting a lot of hate lately and the XM its definitely too much for me, but I have to say I really like the look of the 7 series. And thea other models with bigger grills are growing on me. Who knows all this crazy design may look like a genius move in a couple years

Wow, BMW has really moved the goal posts forward with this car. My only (major) gripe, that cut line between the head light and bonnet. Outch. It really breaks up a surface that should be smooth. Because of that, the front seems 'not as elegant as it should'. The rear also is going to take some getting used to. The rear of the outgoing model seems more expensive to me. Having said all that, there are plenty elements that is simply mind blowing.
Yes for the daytime running lights, the inner line should be \ shape..to cohesively match the grille line by being parallel. Instead it cuts off like / which is odd. The inner side of the main beams is also a bit messy..no idea what's going on there. Generally it's the grille which ruins everything
As with all BMW nowadays, they look much better in person. I was skeptical about the M3 when it was launched, but when I saw it in metal, I ordered one.
When I say a Vauxhall Vectra Mk2 is elegant and sophisticated in comparison im afraid to say BMW is on and has been on a self destruction at the highest possible speed course for some time . They only have the 5 series and 6 series to destroy any semblance of style and their job will be complete . My dad had a 2002ti I then had a e46-M3 my girlfriend had an e46 325 I have an e92 335 and I can say that is the only BMW I will ever own going forward . Horrendous doesn't really justify the way it looks . I'm sure its comfy and lots of tech but goodness me thats a No from me

as a current 7 series owner, I feel like ive been waiting patiently for bmw to unveil the new 7 series, Ive been waiting with my hands open in anticipation, and bmw just shit in my hands. The front end looks confused as of some designed this using common core math 🤦🏻 I like everything else except the jeep Cherokee face and the no gauges this stretched ipad glued to dash is a sterile cheap looking garbage fad that needs to go. I love the door handles and all of the tech but that ridiculous face and dash are just shit. This reminds of the 2003 disaster history repeats itself, wheres the mean aggressive luxurious style that beat all the others in the business, this ain’t it. I have grown to like the big grill on all the models including 4 series and m3, but when it comes to this new design on the x7 and 7 series, I doubt I will ever fall in love with. The split headlights makes the car look weird, like an insect or alien will many eyes, it just doesn't look right. BMW have failed miserably on this one and it is a shame because I just love that interior.
Granted this isn’t a beautiful looking car but it’s super imposing and it’s just so different compared to its competitors. The interior really is the best in class and you spent most of your time in the car rather than looking at it.

The whole exterior design, especially the front and rear is a big joke, the sporty character and the exterior lines have disappeared, the interior looks ok, but the speedo & tacho instrument cluster no longer characterizes the BMW brand. As a BMW customer, I’m very disappointed with the new look design for 7 Series, X7 ( facelift ), IX.

BMWBLOG Any design relying on tech and using cool tones will age quickly. It is a fact. Warm tones, hidden tech looks better over time. For example Bentley with it’s screen that hides.
Big grilles can work when they look good like in the x5, x7 or dare I say the new m3/m4. But the shape of the front grille in this is so unaesthetic I don't understand how it got approved? The front and rear also don't go well with the svelte side profile; they look oversized in comparison to the rest of the car. Just so many things wrong with the design of this new 7 series that part of me thinks it must have intentionally been made to be unattractive. Btw Domagoj Dukec is also responsible for the iX and XM concept car, so maybe he's just not right for the job?

the target audience might have changed, the rivals might have changed, but man does the design suck. It's not even the kidneys, it's the proportions, the front overhang for example. when looking at it from the profile view, the overhangs protrude extensively. bmw has been dropping the ball when its comes to design. you dont see aston's designers explaining themselves.

Mercedes is smiling all the way to the bank. They will most certainly have the best selling luxury saloon for many years to come. BMW just dug their own hole where there're going to be stuck there for many years.
Every time BMW updates their look, their fans boo-boo loudly that they are now ugly, they were better before, it looks crappy now, it's too busy, etc... yet sales keep going up.
Because they are losing the car enthusiast fan base and attraction hype customers. Which is not good for the long term because the enthusiast is loyal to the brand and hype audience will go to the next hot car, ultimately leaving bmw with no more customers. Hence their wacky and Wacker deaigns

And it sitting lower doesn't help at all when they raised the height of the car this much.
to me it kind of has few similar lines to some of the rolls royce (their step brother brand) ,,, when i look at it from a front side angle (especially) i see a smaller more round edges rolls royce sedan

The split headlight design in my opinion is sloppy. They talk about separating essentials and style and that's exactly that. Before it was a perfect blend of the essential lighting and style of the daytime lights. Now it looks like the took the essentials completely separately and half passed slapped it onto the front... which sorry to break it to you... it's not hidden like they may think it is. It just adds another design feature that looks lazy and not wanted on the face of the car. Sure us designers dont want big bulky essential elements ruining our design but by doing this it's making it even more visible on this car. Bad choice. Imagine bmw integrated the two together like they always have but with those crystal daytime lights. I'm sure that would have looked extraordinary
if the gap (the body layer) between upper & lower light was thinner (half at least) i think it would of looked better ... in a darker color like in this vid it does look better doesn't pop out so much but on the lighter car that gap/body between the upper light and bottom light is very odd looking
@@mansgottaeat8879 I've come to realise that in the normal petrol engine versions where they have black accents surrounding the grill and lights looks way better than the i7 where it is all body coloured. With the black accents it sort of gives it the illusion of unity so in a way I can see where you're coming from for wanting them to be closer. However I think really where it all falls apart is mainly the other elements like the grill and the lack of structure at the bottom of the bumper that make these lights look very striking (intentional? Possibly)
Even using their new design language with the lights but adjusting proportions and shape of the other front end elements will definitely make the cars design look more fluent and easy on the eyes. Otherwise I truly believe the rest of this care looks stunning
@@kinglewy9215 i just saw another video of the 2022 lincoln navigator and its new headlights design had split headlights also but the thinner headlight was on the bottom and thicker headlight at the top ,, wonder if that would of looked better on the 7 .... also was thinking if it's possible on the 7 to tint the lower headlight to make it even less noticeable but not sure if that's even legal , if you tint it and have a dark body/bumper color down there the only time you would notice it is at night when it's turned on

I'm a bmw fan, but not sure about this. Split headlights in my opinion loose bmw identity. Don't like this. 😒. Side view looks like the front has been stripped and is missing parts as if it is in the shop for repairs. Interior is interesting I like it. Rear is nice tho. They just lost this in the front!.
There must be some explaining to do for sure ! A disaster is an understatement for the exterior !

Reminds me of the bangle era when the 7 had a revolutionary and polarised design which made it stand out from its competition. The models that followed were conservative and had ‘safe’ designs due to which the S outsold it. This particular 7 is absolutely gorgeous; I love the exterior. It’s imposing and instantly stands out from the competition. Most people are sheep and initially will shun this design but it’s only a matter of time before this work of art grows on them. This design is gonna go down in the history books as one of the most successful 7 ever made. Bravo BMW 👏

I'm sorry, but Domagoj Dukec has to be fired, his design apartment single handily ruin BMW for years to come. I like the interiour, but the front is a huge catastrophe.

They are getting a lot of hate lately and the XM its definitely too much for me, but I have to say I really like the look of the 7 series. And thea other models with bigger grills are growing on me. Who knows all this crazy design may look like a genius move in a couple years

Wow, BMW has really moved the goal posts forward with this car. My only (major) gripe, that cut line between the head light and bonnet. Outch. It really breaks up a surface that should be smooth. Because of that, the front seems 'not as elegant as it should'.
The rear also is going to take some getting used to. The rear of the outgoing model seems more expensive to me.
Having said all that, there are plenty elements that is simply mind blowing.

Yes for the daytime running lights, the inner line should be \ shape..to cohesively match the grille line by being parallel. Instead it cuts off like / which is odd.
The inner side of the main beams is also a bit messy..no idea what's going on there. Generally it's the grille which ruins everything
As with all BMW nowadays, they look much better in person. I was skeptical about the M3 when it was launched, but when I saw it in metal, I ordered one.

When I say a Vauxhall Vectra Mk2 is elegant and sophisticated in comparison im afraid to say BMW is on and has been on a self destruction at the highest possible speed course for some time . They only have the 5 series and 6 series to destroy any semblance of style and their job will be complete . My dad had a 2002ti I then had a e46-M3 my girlfriend had an e46 325 I have an e92 335 and I can say that is the only BMW I will ever own going forward . Horrendous doesn't really justify the way it looks . I'm sure its comfy and lots of tech but goodness me thats a No from me

Audi as the masters of light design (without question) do not need and don’t do such a crime, because they understand that a car needs a clean face and sexy, visible, beautiful eyes (to look at)! No slit eyes!
All new Audi's will come with a split headlight design (you see them in spy photos).

as a current 7 series owner, I feel like ive been waiting patiently for bmw to unveil the new 7 series, Ive been waiting with my hands open in anticipation, and bmw just shit in my hands. The front end looks confused as of some designed this using common core math 🤦🏻 I like everything else except the jeep Cherokee face and the no gauges this stretched ipad glued to dash is a sterile cheap looking garbage fad that needs to go. I love the door handles and all of the tech but that ridiculous face and dash are just shit. This reminds of the 2003 disaster history repeats itself, wheres the mean aggressive luxurious style that beat all the others in the business, this ain’t it. The headlights look like a jeep Cherokees please stop this, please fix this next year change it now, im sure regardless of opinions the sales will tell the truth of this design, but hey i love the door handles 🤷🏻♂️

BMW, Mercedes and others shouldn't play as a low end brand, trying to impress with some strange design. I have grown to like the big grill on all the models including 4 series and m3, but when it comes to this new design on the x7 and 7 series, I doubt I will ever fall in love with. The split headlights makes the car look weird, like an insect or alien will many eyes, it just doesn't look right. BMW have failed miserably on this one and it is a shame because I just love that interior.
So black is the new beauty for BMW (it hides every annoying grill for every models)

Granted this isn’t a beautiful looking car but it’s super imposing and it’s just so different compared to its competitors. The interior really is the best in class and you spent most of your time in the car rather than looking at it.

As a designer myself, I applaud his mastery of bullshit when trying to sell the exterior as anything less than butt-ass ugly.

The whole exterior design, especially the front and rear is a big joke, the sporty character and the exterior lines have disappeared, the interior looks ok, but the speedo & tacho instrument cluster no longer characterizes the BMW brand. As a BMW customer, I’m very disappointed with the new look design for 7 Series, X7 ( facelift ), IX.

Big grilles can work when they look good like in the x5, x7 or dare I say the new m3/m4. But the shape of the front grille in this is so unaesthetic I don't understand how it got approved? The front and rear also don't go well with the svelte side profile; they look oversized in comparison to the rest of the car. Just so many things wrong with the design of this new 7 series that part of me thinks it must have intentionally been made to be unattractive. Btw Domagoj Dukec is also responsible for the iX and XM concept car, so maybe he's just not right for the job?

the target audience might have changed, the rivals might have changed, but man does the design suck. It's not even the kidneys, it's the proportions, the front overhang for example. when looking at it from the profile view, the overhangs protrude extensively. bmw has been dropping the ball when its comes to design. you dont see aston's designers explaining themselves.

Every time BMW updates their look, their fans boo-boo loudly that they are now ugly, they were better before, it looks crappy now, it's too busy, etc... yet sales keep going up.
Because they are losing the car enthusiast fan base and attraction hype customers. Which is not good for the long term because the enthusiast is loyal to the brand and hype audience will go to the next hot car, ultimately leaving bmw with no more customers. Hence their wacky and Wacker deaigns
