19:45 The flavor is basically this: Wrenn is a dryad, and dryads can bond with trees and animate them into treefolk. Wrenn has done this (originally) six different times, and she's always named her treefolk companions by number. Of course we all know Wrenn and Six, the most recent Innistrad story saw her retire Six to the Ulvenwald, where she and Teferi had found Seven, her next tree companion. Finally, as a means to defeat the Phyrexians, Wrenn and Seven travel to New Phyrexia. Unfortunately, a compleated Nissa destroys and kills Seven, leaving Wrenn without a tree and she was slowly dying. Wrenn decided to sacrifice herself and bonded with the world tree Realmbreaker, which the Phyrexians were using to invade the Multiverse. Of course, this card isn't named "Wrenn and Eight" but Wrenn does call the tree Eight as she is sacrificing herself to bring the forces of Zhalfir to New Phyrexia to fight.
It was a really cool story beat too. Shame the card is so underwhelming. I don't even need it to be super competitive as long as it felt strong and powerful as the lore implied. Same with Elspeth. I love MBT as a guest. It's fun to have someone get this half-context and I find those "HE IS SO CLOSE!" moments with Indominatable Creativity a lot of fun. One important thing to note with Planeswalkers in the context of current Magic however is the way removal is handled currently. Blue has 2 Mana Drains in No More Lies and Make Disappear. Should a prominent Planeswalker ever arise again then Black can easily just Bitter Downfall it and if a Planeswalker doesn't affect the board vs. the red decks it will just get run over or ignored. Its why The Wandering Emperor and Kaito Shizuki are like the two Planeswalkers that see consistent play. They are easily able to force 2 effect activations before dying.

This was absolutely incredible. I am always kind of sad, that MBT doesn't do at least a small amount of MtG content, because his thoughts on card games are always incredibly interesting. If you can get MBT on this channel again, that would be very cool.
After lotr released wrenn was completely busted in alchemy, games were much slower due to the prevalence of bowmaster and any way to draw cards that got around bowmasters became extremely valuable as well. Wrenn fits very well into exactly that scenario not to mention that the other greatest card ever to be printed, delighted halfling, forced you into wrenns color anyway. Most games wouldnt see a wrenn ulti but many matchups, especially the mirror, did get to them reasonably often.
It's funny MBT arrived at Amalia being playable by comparing it to Merfolk Branchwalker and reasoning that if the latter was playable the former was as well without ever touching on the fact that the reason Branchwalker was playable in standard was as part of a package involving Wildgrowth Walker (and ultimately a large part of Amalia's playability is owed to its synergy with WW as well)
Demonic Bargain just reads "remember that broken effect?" but you bought it off Temu. EDIT: I can't believe that Wrenn and Realmbreaker isn't good, but at the same time if the effects were better...

I don't like YGO but MBT is really funny, his response to Rarran was hilarious and fantastic, I'd watch if he did content I was interested in, glad you had him on, only halfway through but glad he's doing so well. Wish he covered magic still
To be fair to MBT, wrenn and realmbreaker isn't bad. It's just that green has been the weakest color in standard since it's been printed, and it's not strong enough to be playing G for by itself. Then conbine that with it being *kinda* a GB card (typically its GBx decks that want a card like WnR), and B has arguably the best 3s in standard? It would not be hard (and still could happen) for WnR to be an all-star in a deck. It's not bad on rate, just... doesn't line up with the format.
@@TheOneJameYT well sure, but I'm saying that even as is, it's hardly *bad,* it's just worse than other options in BG decks, and Gx decks besides that don't really exist (at least not the type that want a grindy value card like this).
@@TheOneJameYT it feels a bit like you're missing what I'm saying. It's worse than the alternatives in BG decks. Other G decks don't exist right now that might want a value 3 drop like this. If they did (or if they do in the future), then WnR could easily see play. It's only a "bad card" in the context of having no home, not in the context of the rate being wrong. Those are two separate things that I think are useful to talk about differently. Cards without a home can easily slot from seeing no play to seeing tons of play with a slight shift. Cards that are bad on rate have little to no chance to see play.
Lorien Revealed is a part of a common landcycling cycle in LoTR but it's the only one that isn't a creature. The other 4 are creatures. Pretty sure it was intentional to make Living End not get a powerful blue creature that can find an Island and pitch to Force of Negation and Subtlety.
Indomitable Creativity is really good with Encroaching Mycosynth simply because Encroaching Mycosynth turns all the things you own in your library and all other zones into artifacts so if you pump a lot of mana and have enough to sac you can just put all your permanents into play
I am glad that Wrenn wasn't as strong as MBT hoped because that makes it less expensive for me to use in my commander deck, 5c color fixing moment But it does speak a lot of volume on power creep.
I love Demonic Bargain as a pick here, because in Yu-Gi-Oh it would be crazy, but in Magic it's just okay. Really highlights the gap between design principle between the games, and I love that.
Another awesome vid as always! Especially love seeing the Yugioh players guessing Magic! Got excited seeing the Universe Beyond stuff like Optimus and Lord of The Rings-More of that please! Also, as you mention, any card can be good in Commander, so I get why it's tough to rate them from that standpoint. However, maybe in future installments, could there be a way to examine more Commander cards or Commander-only format cards? Perhaps the difference would be what's good/used in EDH vs CEDH? Thanks again for what you do!
I doubt he'll see this explanation but Wrenn is the planeswalker who binds to trees and she just numbers them, till she gets to the actual named tree Realmbreaker
Wrenn and Realmbreaker isn't "really bad", it's very medium. I just looked it up and it's done a few things, but doesn't see a ton of play. I think calling it really bad is underselling it a lot
In standard, I think Amalia is good enough to see play in a white-black lifegain deck even without wildgrowth walker. From that, I'd argue that MBT is right that Amalia is a good card even if you never trigger the destruction ability. Of course, wildgrowth walker takes this from a good-decent card to a game winning combo piece.
The reaction to Wrenn was gold. "Oh its a planeswalker, so it must be busted." And then it turns out that Wrenn and Realmsbreaker is basically unplayable outside of commander.
I still play all of the liliana's in mono black control and I ultimate the wrenn all the time in aggressive creature decks that bait all the removal early game and late game wrenn ultimates and takes over the game
I know I'm super late here (just came across on the feed) but with Demonic Bargain I immediately thought of comparisons to Grim Tutor. It's most assuredly the better card for 3cmc and would make for an easy conclusion, but that card just so happens to fall outside the time period MBT is familiar with (Starter 1999/Core Set 2021). Hopefully I can get Rarran on the show!
Yeah us yugioh players really lucked out on MBT. We really don't deserve him 😂
To be fair to MBT, wrenn and realmbreaker isn't bad.
If it untapped the land or got any permanent from the graveyard it would be insane 😅
@@TheOneJameYT well sure, but I'm saying that even as is, it's hardly *bad,* it's just worse than other options in BG decks, and Gx decks besides that don't really exist (at least not the type that want a grindy value card like this).
@@tahlialysse isn’t a bad card almost always considered worse than the alternatives?
@@TheOneJameYT it feels a bit like you're missing what I'm saying. It's worse than the alternatives in BG decks. Other G decks don't exist right now that might want a value 3 drop like this. If they did (or if they do in the future), then WnR could easily see play. It's only a "bad card" in the context of having no home, not in the context of the rate being wrong. Those are two separate things that I think are useful to talk about differently. Cards without a home can easily slot from seeing no play to seeing tons of play with a slight shift. Cards that are bad on rate have little to no chance to see play.
I can't wait to see the reverse video where MBT shows you the level 1 Fire deck.
I know about that, I had an MTG player rate the fire deck a video or 2 ago
I’d love if individual yugioh card reviews came back. I don’t hate the archetype review format, but they just feel way too long to get through
Also having some cards out of context can be funny.
I have sprinkled a few of them in but I can do more
@@TheOneJameYT yeah more individual card reviews would be great
I have been waiting so long for this! MTG is my jam but MBT is my grounded YGO bae that helps me remember my youth.
Love mbt. Binge the History of Yu-Gi-Oh (and Jank)! Hes great fun!
Yea that sounds like the case for sure
MBT: Ormendahl that's the liliana demon guy!
Griselbrand: Am I a joke to you?
Indomitable Creativity is really good with Encroaching Mycosynth simply because Encroaching Mycosynth turns all the things you own in your library and all other zones into artifacts so if you pump a lot of mana and have enough to sac you can just put all your permanents into play
I am glad that Wrenn wasn't as strong as MBT hoped because that makes it less expensive for me to use in my commander deck, 5c color fixing moment
But it does speak a lot of volume on power creep.
I love Demonic Bargain as a pick here, because in Yu-Gi-Oh it would be crazy, but in Magic it's just okay. Really highlights the gap between design principle between the games, and I love that.
The funny part about amulet titan is that as long as it has amulet and titan it’ll still work.
Thanks for the feedback and glad you’re liking the videos!
I doubt he'll see this explanation but Wrenn is the planeswalker who binds to trees and she just numbers them, till she gets to the actual named tree Realmbreaker
MBT plays a game where turns take 15 minutes. He'd be right at home in Commander if he played Hakbal.
Wrenn and Realmbreaker isn't "really bad", it's very medium. I just looked it up and it's done a few things, but doesn't see a ton of play. I think calling it really bad is underselling it a lot
If it sees seldom play I don’t think I could say it’s a good card but yea it might’ve been a stretch to say it’s really bad
@@TheOneJameYT I agree I wouldn't call it "good". I'd say it's like a 3/5 card, just beaten out by better stuff.
@@pumkinswift8263 which when you think about it is kinda terrifying 😅
In standard, I think Amalia is good enough to see play in a white-black lifegain deck even without wildgrowth walker. From that, I'd argue that MBT is right that Amalia is a good card even if you never trigger the destruction ability. Of course, wildgrowth walker takes this from a good-decent card to a game winning combo piece.
Yep! I play her in my orzhov lifegain deck in standard and she’s great
I CAN FETCH FOR MYSTIC SANCTUARY? 🤯🤯 I never even noticed! Now i feel stupid! 😅
The reaction to Wrenn was gold. "Oh its a planeswalker, so it must be busted." And then it turns out that Wrenn and Realmsbreaker is basically unplayable outside of commander.
got the commercial break a second after you said wrenn and realmbreaker was bad. At least the commercial break didn't keep me waiting.
Planned 😎
@@TheOneJameYT you did feature a creature magic that is listed as a god. It was divine intervention the commercial was short
Both of your mics are so good that without background music the silent moments are like listening to the void
Maybe I should put background music in there
@TheOneJameYT It's all good content, it's just something I noticed with my sleep deprived brain at 4:30 am lol
Man when MBT said that the nuke effect of Amalia would probably never happen, idk how you kept your poker face up. I was smiling ear to ear lmao
My brain was smiling ear to ear, laughing, and crying simultaneously
Wrenn is a dryad that takes willing trees on adventures in the blind eternities
It's funny how he mentioned kamigawa and it's consequences. Can't imagine his reaction to the new kamigawa Boseiju land
MBT playing Mono Blue Tron is so fitting lmao
First vid of yours I watched, I'm the weird demographic that only plays MtG but also watches MBT... so this was a good time 😊
These kinds of videos Where people from different tcg evaluate the others cards
I still play all of the liliana's in mono black control and I ultimate the wrenn all the time in aggressive creature decks that bait all the removal early game and late game wrenn ultimates and takes over the game
Wow Indomitable creativity has such a beautiful artwork holy shit😮😮😮
It really does
I know I'm super late here (just came across on the feed) but with Demonic Bargain I immediately thought of comparisons to Grim Tutor. It's most assuredly the better card for 3cmc and would make for an easy conclusion, but that card just so happens to fall outside the time period MBT is familiar with (Starter 1999/Core Set 2021). Loved the dynamic between you two. Good video!
I made sure to pick cards outside his frame of reference, happy you liked it! (another one with MBT coming soon)
As a yugioh player im rolling my eyes so hard at that first interaction, although we have literal ftks in the game 😂
🤣
You gotta invite the champ him self, Mr Josh Schmidty
He hasn’t answered me yet 🫡
@@TheOneJameYTwish the best of luck in getting him still 💯
welcome home MBT
Any vid about magic: banger. Any vid with mtb: banger. A video about magic with mbt: absolute banger
Absolutely 🫡
Today i learned MBT stood for mono blue tron 😯 Anyways, great video as always.
Crazy right!
It would be funny to see how MBT reacts to historically powerful cards like counterspell, jace the mind sculptor, and stoneforge mystic unbanning in modern.
I'm glad the last deck I played was mirari's wake back in 7'th I managed to dodge all the power creep.
Demonic bargain sounds like it might be bad only because you are likely to banish the card you are looking for since it happens before you search.
please get this guy back on! this is great!
That’s the plan!
@@TheOneJameYT still hoping to see it!
