Fun Fact: the Yu-Gi-Oh manga was only going to feature the card game for one chapter, but the readers asked where they could get the cards to play, so the entire series was shifted revolve around it because of the support of the fans
Yeah the author created the Manga to get kids into tabletop games (he always played them as child) and when readers wrote in to ask how to play the game and where they can find it he took the opportunity and created the bestest selling card game
@@Brogan_Balfour_Crescent bruh manga is def not created for kids LOL, Bakura forcefully taking out Pegasus Eye which kills him and bakura licks the eye, and that is just one tiny part of yugioh
@@ragenaros4475 It's created for japanese kids. Look at Dragon Ball it has Bulma's breasts fully exposed. The part about sending cards to space, it was actually both.
E-HERO Neos & the Neo Spacian archetype were in a separate capsule than Yubel, sent at different times, for different reasons.
Neos and the Neo Spacians for the promo thing Kaiba was doing.
Yubel because she was a detrimental threat to basically everyone in Jaden’s life as Yubel was basically a soul-bound yandere.
I think that if Yubel had been sent in the same capsule as Neos & the Neo Spacians, Jaden would have ended up using Neos Kluger & Neos Wiseman as they’re both the combination of E-HERO Neos & Yubel.
@@vaulthunterfromterra4053 he does use Wiseman in the JP anime, just not in the dub. And it's the correct type too, Fusion Monster

The Act Man of one of these duelists that when the opponent summons a Time Lord, thinks that the opponent is an idiot for summoning a 0 atk monster. Then proceed to attack it, wonder why they lost half their LP, and finally activate Raigeki just to find it can't be destroyed by card effects either.
is that what they call #FUCKINGREAD, right?^^
on master duel I unironically had people try multiple card effects on my gouki powerload ogre before they realized it can't be affected by anything (they usually try to destroy it with raigeki or something, then try to spin it with knightmare unicorn)
That's what you would call an "idiot"
yeah honestly that act man video is so dogshit, its terribly researched with a boomer mindset on top of it
and you’re the kind of duelist that thinks anyone with valid criticism must mean that they’re bad. keep coping to justify your $600 deck just to lose at locals first turn cuz the game is shit now.
Yugioh is not a kids card game at all. It’s so insanely in-depth and unlike any other card game. It’s insane. So many rulings and things that have to be done before this other thing and if this happens then this might, so on and so forth. It’s crazy.
Thats why they make waifu cards with bs effects to draw out all of young adults’s money

I took a break from 2005-2022
The learning curve was rough but master duel helped a lot. Far from an expert but I can keep up competitively now 😂
I suggest take a break again before you got ptsd
What deck are you playing?
I think archetypes are one of the best things that have happened to Yugioh, because they allow you to explore many themes and combinations that you wouldn't otherwise explore.
In addition to the existence of archetypes, it does not prevent mixing or trying combinations, it is not for nothing that there are cards with interesting synergies such as the Dogmatika-Invoked-Shaddoll deck that literally combines 3 different archetypes in a single deck.
Also, I want to mention that the archetypes have allowed for amazing narratives to be told using the cards, just take a look at things like the "World Chalice" or the whole "Branded/Albaz" lore, which on their own could be their own anime.
World Chalice always struck me as someone in the Yu-Gi-Oh team who really wanted to make an RPG, but Konami told them no. It smacks of RPG tropes.
Also, don’t forget Trick or Treat (Ghostrick Madolche), which has has been found to be decent in older formats. That has a funny name.
There are many fun combinations you can do with certain archetypes. However, many players chose to use those other archetypes as engines for their better staples rather then as a fun combo deck. You will more often then not see a deck running multiple archetypes to get the best features from each (typically negate cards, hand traps, or free summons). Using archtypes such as adventure or spright as an engine rather then playing them as a deck, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of the archetypes in general.
@@maniacalmurderer4123 Given enough time players will engineer the fun out of any game. This is unavoidable and should not stop a creator from making archetypes.
I will literally spend an hour reading up on a new archetype despite having no plans to ever play it.
I came back competitively in 2016 and I still have yet to win a locals but I’m finally decent enough to consider going weekly again. Master duel definitely revamped my love of the card game

@@Chaotic818 Branded is really cheap because they reprinted 90% of the cards you need in a started deck last year, they were about $15 a box so with 3 boxes you have enough to start going to locals and it even comes with staples like ash blossom in it as well as a common. branded is a top 5 deck with all the bells and whistles which were expensive but most of them are already reprinted since the starter deck came out so a local winning branded deck should cost you less than $100, it’s just up to you to learn the interactions, most games are won but one mistake so just tighten your game and you’ll do fine brother!

"These archetype cards can't be used in your current deck they need their own deck"
*despia has entered the chat*
Yeah I was gonna say. The biggest thing about recent sets is that they've explicitly designed it so that theres a ton of crossover archetypes, and even these days deckbuilding is varied and interesting. And saying shit like 'archetypes are dumb' is total bullshit, theres a ton of variety and different decks to main and innovate on.
One of my all time favorite moments was stopping a Winged Dragon of Ra with 8000+ attack from one-shotting me with nothing but a Witchcrafter Golem Aruru effect of sending a card back to the hand. Ra went right back to the hand and I soon won the duel. One more god rejected haha

Also, Dragon Link! It’s probably one of the most impressive decks, just with how it uses anything they can. Branded also uses like four decks in one, even just as one ofs.
Zombies are all about mixing and matching. Even when you play mostly Shiranui or Mayakashi, you want to put in a little of th other for banish moves or all-out power respectively.
Then you have cards like Uni-Zombie and Gozuki/Mezuki that are basically staples despite not really being in any archetype.
Crystal beast basically doesn't work if you run pure these days lol. You NEED the boost to throw down your endboard or you're dead before you can resolve literally 75% of your cards it's crazy

Kinda interesting to look back at on it now, lol

Honestly, ygo today is better than when it started. When it first started the only thing that mattered was attack and it was inherently just a non-functional game. Around GX i think they started realizing that the only way to fix that problem was to build cards around their effects and let stats/levels be a way to categorize them.

In the manga he has a card that gives himself blue-eyes white dragon armor and he turns into a kamen rider
joey's duel is always fun, sometimes even more entertaining than yugi's
Joey is easily the best character in the first Yugioh series. It oddly feels like only his voice actor was able (or allowed to) put more improv or tone into his lines. In one duel when he's so exhausted and can't make a move, he just goes "Ugh, I' done" when everyone else has to say "I end my turn."
Also, the fact that in Season 4 he literally thought of and was about to throw a duel and lose his soul hoping Mai would snap out of her bad decision is amazing. If Yugi didn't talk him out of it, he was literally ready to banish himself.
Not really, his wins through chance cards pull more BS than Yugi ever did. His cards rarely ever backfire, like whenever he plays one of those kinds of cards you know it'll always benefit him.
@@GamersXnostalgia remember when he delet all his monsters by using time wizard?

he doesn't showcase the fun of gamble decks AT ALL, that being the swing like momentum you get, at any moment you could be absolutely demolishing the opponent, and the next you're sucking dick and balls wondering how everything went to shit so quickly
The cards sent to space were the neos cards but yubel was also sent to space so she could become safe to use (every time Jaden dueled with yubel the opponent was injured because Jaden lost and Yubel overreacted to his sadness at loosing), while the neos cards absorbed cosmic energy and became stronger, yubel was tortured, Jaden sensed this pain and suffered nightmares because of this and was forced to get brainwashed to repress his abilities and memories of yubel…they say original Yugioh was dark, GX is just trauma.
Im so glad yugioh is still mainstream, i still have loved it since 1998
22:52 Dragoon is a beast of a card. But it's not neccesarily game breaking. Kaijius exist in YGO, and they're one of the greatest balancing mechanics Konami has ever created.
That or ra sphere mode or my beloved nibiru
There are also several cards that negate or non destruction remove, or can even beat over it as long as you can play through its negate (not that hard with most decks.)
Draw Dark ruler or forbidden droplet, and it's game over if they just have dragoon.
Dragoon never become problem card in TCG as far as I can remember. The only reason that thing broken in OCG because control deck have better floodgates (vanity, 3 skill drain when we only have 1, etc) not to mention Maxx C.
@@ramaroy2408 Yeah Dragoon is an amazingly strong card in a vaccum, but it was overshadowed hard by DPE.
@@ramaroy2408 other way around. skill drain is at 3 in the TCG. OCG just put it to 1 very recently. Vanity's Emptiness is banned in all formats as well. Dragoon was originally banned because of Anaconda. Although now that it's banned it could return.
34:29 Madolches are based and super popular. They're still playable even after 12 years old at this point, but Tiaramisu non-targeting is still so good. And it apparently got a new version which is literally just the same thing, but on your opponents turn.
Not only was mech chaser a tournament pack card, which were 3 card packs lol, it was the rarest in the set being UR when the packs didn't even guarantee silver rares.
7:05 to be fair i feel like Yami Yugi being more cruel would make sense as he was a pharaoh of ancient Egypt in a time where all ruler were just brutal
From what I recall he was portrayed as a mostly benevolent pharaoh but something about the circumstance of his revival (or just the magic) corrupted his soul in the beginning. Either that or he was retconned as the manga progressed.
The idea was that he was great in almost every aspect, but he lacked compassion and the ability to rely on others, which is what he gained from his time with Yugi to become more complete and strong enough to beat Zorc. Hence why in the beginning of the series he was willing to blast Kaiba of the edge of the castle and Yugi had to stop him.
Didn't the pharaoh kinda lost all his memories and go insane for a bit since he was trapped for thousand of years in the puzzle which is like a huge labyrinth.
Yugioh is great because it feels like the only card game where you can win by drawing a single card. Heart of the Cards isn’t marketing, that shit was real life
I think Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments should just have divisions, like a Normal summon/Ritual summon division, a synchro division, a pendulum division, etc. Just so people can compete in whatever style they want.
Perfect solution. Also like seperate divisons based on generations. This one fix could absolutely save the game.
I had a choice of yugi’s starter deck or kaiba’s.
Stupid young me thinking that since yugi’s the main character his deck is gonna be stronger.
Nope. Dark Magician couldn’t beat Blue eyes straight up so it’s a disadvantage already.
Still salty about it to this day cuz i got my ass beat by blue eyes from friends
Funnily enough, the Yugi starter deck was still better, because Summoned Skull - you'd still want to get both though because of La Jinn in the Kaiba deck as well
Remember playing 'Wind Up' and actually discarding someone's entire hand before they got to even draw their first card. Or magic library and goblin merchant one turn KO

I'm so glad I got out of Yugioh right before 5Ds when they added all the crazy stuff. I came back years later thoroughly confused and absolutely hated all the new summoning mechanics. Never got back into it becaue of that, but I'll still play some of the old games. Tag Force is a lot of fun still. All the Synchro Pendulum bs just put a bad taste in my mouth, I don't find it fun anymore.
I don't have a problem with people who love the games still, though they often give me shit for my opinion. It just isn't for me anymore. I enjoyed the slower and simpler pace in the old days. Even the broken stuff was fun, Yata was hilarious. A little bird that just slowly pecks your opponent to death, depriving them of resources.
I never should have sold my old cards. So many pieces of cardboard worth hundreds now.
I completely understand where you coming from & for me it was at GX, i stopped playing/collecting afterwards. Now watching all this current meta stuff doesn’t look interesting to me anymore lol but YuGiOh will forever be the best childhood cards game for me
I played yugioh in a local card shop like a few hours ago I had to call over our resident official judge to clarify some unique situations that no one in the room had encountered before specifically around card wording and how literal we take the wording
I've been into yugioh since it made it in the US in like 2000 and I had no idea season 0 was a thing til this year.
been a long time since i watched GX so i could be wrong but i think its was both neos and yubel and possibly the neo spaceins that kabia sent to space they were desgined by jaden for a competion held by kabia and the winner of the competion there designs would be made into cards and sent into space i cant remember the reason he wanted to send them into space could have been to duel aliens
it was neos and the neospacians alongside yubel were sent into space where neos and the neospacians were affected by the gentle darkness and yubel was effected by the light of destruction making yubel a sociopath
Neospacians were designed by Jaden and sent into space yeah. Yubel was a card he owned before then that was "cursed" so he sent that to space too hoping to cure it, but it just like tortured Yubel or whatever and made her ultra sado-masochistic

The problem with YuGiOh nowadays is the overfocus on archetypes, the fact that the speed of the game has turned it into a two-player solitaire lasting only a few turns and general power creep. Also the art feels a lot less inspiried somehow nowadays, but that could also be the fact that Im not a super fan of the whole anime style for trading cards.

Getting into this game or returning after ages can be hard, but it's certainly not impossible. Just needs some patience and time to learn how to properly read the cards.
I only ever watched the OG anime and played a couple Gameboy games, probably never even touched an IRL card as a kid. A few years ago I "got back" into Yugioh thanks to Duel Links. Nowadays Master Duel is among the only games I play in my rather limited freetime....All because I somehow stumbled upon certain top10 and lore channels and got hooked on those artworks and archetypes.
I found that introducing mechanics by playing/making them use a deck built around a given mechanic works pretty well. Especially if you play it against them a few times first. That's how I finally taught myself pendulums lol.

Oh man...there were some Pokemon decks that are just as mean as some Yugioh decks. What made it worst is that there was no sideboarding at the time.
Hardcore E-Hero user cuz for me, they are the most diverse archetype cause I have been using them for years now and I've won more often than I've lost cause they're so applicable and can counter most archetypes if you just understand how
The best way I found to explain what makes Yu.Gi-Oh special is that it is like the Marvel Vs Capcom of TCGs. Outrageously complicated to get into the competitive aspect of it, full of obviously broken shit, but HOLY HELL does it have style and it feels so amazing to pull off a 20-card combo in it.

Joey was a real one. The only one brave enough to run an all monster deck!
He's talking about how the power creep prevents newcomers from enjoying the game because they have to know all effects each card has so they can use their deck in the best way they can.
The problem isn't the mass amount of text a single card has, the problem is that 99% of modern cards have a mass amount of text... Why do you think Konami may be wanting to do a hard reboot with Master Duel by returning to its roots. There is just far too much stuff that happens in modern duels that anyone who want to get into the game (either after stopping for years or a complete newcomer) they will get overwhelmed very easily, even in casual dueling.
Well, it's been ages since i play Yugioh but bless Master Duel, hope we can have more functionality..
Maybe a true story mode dunno. Anyway it's feel good crushing "over the top opponent deck" with a Dark Magician Deck.
Im not even joking, the 'gagaga' deck is cool
Gagaga pure sucks, but using it and the other Onomatopoeia card to facilitate the Utopia series can be pretty sick.

Theres also cards like card guard. He just give another card an "extra life" or grand itself 300ATK with its tokens aslong as the card exists on the field
There are card that are without archetype that stll find ways to be relevant
The Suship monsters are really cool as they are. I think what drags them down is the lack of spell/trap support.
I think adding more normal monsters like Luster Dragon #2 or Firewing Pegasus and support for those cards, like what Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes have been getting, would have been great for game balancing and collecting.
suships dont need more spell/traps, they're focus on swarming the field using shari and other gunkan monsters so having too much spell/traps will clog them up alongside with making it harder to splash in various tech and engines considering they dont apply any restriction
not everything needs to be competitively or meta viable
I think what holds them back is they suck tbh lol, I do love them though, I flexed my ships during the XYZ festival, that was a fun time.

3 effects per card minimum is the bane of modern YuGiOh and the reason why people go back to play retro formats. Most new decks are just variations of the same Special Summon, Tutor, Removal, Float and Recycle loop to build a board with speed and disruption being the latest form of powercreep. Konami just restrict the card pool already, bring back old favorites and print new simple cards.
I 100% understand Charlie wanting to call out Farfa but the root of the problem is that a new player can understand what Skill Drain does at first glance and the fringe cases are easy enough to comprehend by playing, same goes for most of the old busted cards. 3 effect cards are incredibly bloated, hard to follow and come off as abstract non-sense to new players.
I’ve had so many people forfeit on Master Duel because my turns are so long due to the combos

Joey is my favorite being the 3. Not because of his card, but rather because of his personality.
He is a underdog that became good enough to be in the top 3. He got hit by a literal god but was still standing with just his will power alone and almost defeated the main villain of that arc as a result. Joey and Yugi has more respect toward each other like a true best friend than Kaiba. He went toward the flames to rescue Yugi. He literary dived off the ship all just to rescue Yugi precious grandpa cards. He lost on purpose and lost his soul all just to make his girl happy. He is the most loyal friend you could ask for in the original Yugioh. And he also has the most cheerful personality between the 3 too.
That's why his my favorite. Lol XD
20:58 that happened to me before 😂😂😂😭
Summon mechanics go brrr, my favorite deck I’m using rn is eldlich the mad golden lord, I use mad grave summons and traps with effects, it’s such a good deck.
Eldlich has been my main deck for ranked for a year or so now just cause it's fun to play, can hold up against alot of meta decks and turns don't take me half an hour to do I can usually screw them over with a 1-2 minute setup.
But recently I found gate guardians, I love making decks based on anime decks and I was extremely surprised that gate guardians were so overpowered, I almost always get my best one out on the first turn and they all summon more gate guardians when they leave the field, plus they can fuse without a card to make them fuse and can use cards from the grave as material. The field spell also brings the banished ones back every turn so it's just endless fusing it's really fun to play. Short turns that don't even take a minute and can usually hold its own against most modern decks.
Was so pleasantly surprised when I made it and realised it was actually good cause there's not many modern counters for it. Each combination of the gate guardian pieces has a really good effect, one can make 2 monsters per turn go to 0 attack so it wins every fight it's in. One can't be targeted and can negate 3 effects aiming at your field every turn. One just negates 2 spell or traps a turn. If you get all 3-4 of these cards on the board it's very hard for them to get them off the board
@@seansmith877 that’s so real, how I have my deck setup rn is 3 elds, zombie and vampire cards, the respective traps that turn into monsters, banish effects and grave effects to bring anything back. Mad golden lord doesn’t take battle damage or effects from spells. To top it all off I can xyz tarantula and make everything on my field overpowered from the lp difference. But yeah I like making anime decks too, I have a zootrick deck, blackwing deck, and a d/d/d deck.
@@rickymittenhuber5586 d/d/d is a classic, I'm quite fond of crystal beast decks, everyone's strong until the ultimate rainbow dragons comes out and clears the entire board haha.
I run eldlich but I actually only use the 3 normal eldlichs I don't use the mad one or anything in the extra deck. My decks all trap monsters that can bring eldlich back but when he comes back he gains 1000 attack and can't be destroyed by card effects.
Recognized Johnny Silver Hand , Benny From Fallout New Vegas , & Leon from Resident Evil? LMAO WAT
The teachers face falling apart and the dude who thinks he is on fire forever is one of those anime moments thats lifted straight out of the manga and, as the video points out, there was no actual card game at this point or a ruleset to follow so the manga was literally full of the craziest shit and I was all about it. I loved reading these when I was actually a kid and not just revisiting as an adult because the manga was hardcore to prepubescent child 😂 some really weird stuff happens but I almost liked it more seeing Yami challenge these people to mind games and then bestow some random ass punishment that seemed really cruel but the caveat is usually just that its "all in their mind"... still pretty brutal and even outside of these scenes its rather unforgiving, that teacher was a real bitch 😂you gotta read them to know
I only left the game for like 3 or so years, and ive been playing again for a few months, and i STILL dont fully understand how to effectively play a pendelum deck
Pendulums are a decade old at this point
@@gggooodddyyy no, don't say that, I'll wither away
Gustav Max existed in real life.
Im not a Joey fan but red eyes is my guy red eyes zombie on my zombie deck and toon red eyes on the toon Deck with black stones are just nice to me
As an OG Yugioh fan, I stopped playing the game once Yugi was no longer in the anime and the ancient Egyptian theme was gone. I tried to get into GX and I collected some of the hero cards but it just didn’t feel the same and it made me lose hype for the series as a whole.
Yo i agree with this completely. After GX i stopped playing/watching the series & collecting, just didn’t feel the same anymore. But YuGiOh will forever be my fav childhood cards game & Pokemon 2nd for me lol
@@DripzV. Facts! I will always have a special place for Yugioh and Pokémon. The one thing about the yugioh TCG that I am happy about is that all of the cards from the original series are easily obtainable now so I have been able to collect all of the cards I wished I could’ve had when I was younger.
I tried Yu-Gi-Oh again after 10 years i just play dinomist idk what i m doing
I have to say it… we can’t all have a 1st edition jinzo Charlie. It’s like 500 bucks for one in near mint condition. Honestly, it’s hard enough for me to decide to spend 40-50 for a near mint unlimited of jinzo! That’s all though, rant over.
36:03 the Qli part was funny although sadly the qli deck is actually so bad, it doesn't work with any other deck other then itself and it basically locks you into summoning only Qliphort monsters, best card in that deck is the Qliphort Genius link monster since its a negate and an earth machine which is my fav deck type also don't crap on Gustav and Liebe, Liebe my favorite yugioh card.
Damn, that video he mentioned sounds pretty epic!
