It's now like having the author read the book instead of reading it yourself, Chip knows what Day wants to do and has a bag of tricks to add onto what Day already does. Will be curious to see just how much Chip is able to add in one offseason, I don't expect prime Chip Oregon days but if you can like give me 2022 UCLA run game with OSU normal pass game. Taking a step back to do the kind of work that one wants to do, albeit for less money, happens all the time. I did it. As a senior executive at a consulting firm, I was responsible for selling work and managing performance and compensation for a large group of consultants. These responsibilities were in addition to my client-facing delivery work. Rather than just retire, my company agreed to allow me to give up the sales and people management aspects of my job and just focus on client-facing work. I lost the opportunity to earn significant bonuses (about 30% of my pay package), but I no longer had to deal with all the crap that I hated doing.

The thing about the OSU defense is that they lost a bunch of talent to graduation & the NFL after 2019. They also lost DC Jeff Hafley to Boston College. Then, they whiffed on their next DC hire with Kerry Coombs. The defense began a 2 year descent into the dark ages & had to be rebuilt roster wise on top of implementing a new scheme 3 seasons removed from 2019.
The offense was elite in 2022, and each year before that dating back to 2018. We're only 1 season removed from Ryan Day being mentioned in the same breath as Lincoln Riley & Steve Sarkisian. They have the peices to bounce back quickly.

Wow, just wow. Your expectations are stretching it a bit aren't they? Realistic would be to expect a B1G 10 championship but a natty is tough to do. Lets face it, there are probably 10-12 teams that could win a natty so it's just hard to predict. If "anything" goes wrong in a game in the playoffs (talking about the 12 team one next year) you are out. A shanked field goal - gone! QB gets sacked a couple of times at the wrong junction of the game - gone! Interception or fumble - gone ....... unless you are very lucky in those instances you will most likely lose any of those games.
I will admit that it would be nice to see Ohio State win the natty but not going to crucify the coach if they don't. What I am hoping for this season is for them to finally have their offense AND defense clicking on all cylinders at the same time. I think they could be scary good if that happens.

My hope... HOPE... is that Bill O'Brien is able to recruit at a higher level and get some higher level transfers going north. I know JP has his feelings about BOB, but Boston College hasn't had a coach of his level in a very long time. Sure they had Tom Coughlin and Tom O'Brien, but they didn't come to BC with the background that Bill O'Brien has. JP said, "he wasn't good at Alabama. Bryce Young was a savior at Alabama." It takes good coaches to make talented players great. You can put that all on G.O.A.T Saban if you want, but how many talented QBs under perform due to poor coaching? How many QBs play so well that they get drafted high in the NFL draft, but under poor coaching are labelled as busts? Time will tell if BOB can level up BC enough to win 7 games in the regular season, but to downplay what he did as Penn State head coach after the Sandusky downfall, coaching up the Texans to a level of success they hadn't had to that point, sure his GM skills were terrible, he is a good coach and a great hire for Boston College. Josh, give BOB a little love. I do agree that Boston College is in the muck of the bottom of the ACC... as a fan of a mucky team, I need to find those flickers of hope when I can get them.

Happy for Chip. Gotta be hard enough just recruiting your own players these days much less having an NIL budget at UCLA in the 6 figures when OSU has an 8 figure budget. That and he doesn't have to recruit boosters either so I don't blame him one bit. I was all for the Raiders to hire Chip once we moved on from KK I feel his dedication to the run game is what makes the difference between his scheme and the KK/LR tree. The New Hampshire Mafia rides again... gotta love it. As an aside... Ryan Day may be on the hot seat after this year if he doesn't beat Michigan and go to the semi-finals at minimum. Chip is positioned nicely if they decide to move on from Day.

Chip Kelly is a terrible head coach. He is a decent, not great play caller. He will probably do pretty good at OSU due to the NFL talent on the roster. That being said, a few things to watch for: CK is not going to recruit at all for you. 3rd/4th and short is 90% chance to run it up the gut and it doesn't matter if the RB is 160 lbs or 240 lbs. CK will come up with some great game plans BUT if the game plan isn't working he will not shift to something else because he 100% believes he is the smartest guy in the room.
Before someone says I am just a bitter UCLA fan, you are RIGHT that I am bitter. UCLA recruiting under CK reached historic lows. CK went 2 recruiting cycles with ONE HS OL recruit! This is why the last season UCLA had 3 separate QB's knocked out of games TWICE EACH. Think about it, your 1st, 2nd and 3rd string QB's all got knocked of a game multiple times because he didn't require his coaches to recruit more than 1 HS OL over 2 seasons...
PS DTR running ability made CK's O stats look a LOT better than they actually were at UCLA.

Yes we did....bout time to get back to Urban meyer type football,we havent looked the same since Day took over, and we've had the talent, just the wrong system. Kelly bringin back the spread is the best thing that we cld have hoped for. Day is even recruiting QBs differently,Lincoln and Brown arent typical OSU QBs Sayin,Noland and St Clair are.

Ohio St fans are just as delusional as LSU fans. This "Super team" Ohio St has paid millions for will not work. This team has way to many ego driven drama queens. Every single player they just paid for is only after money. These kids will not go the extra mile or do whats necessary in tight close games because they don't and wont care about their teammates. Will Howard is just an average QB. So you have an average QB, still have no line, still soft and have a team filled with people who only care about money. Ohio St will yet again lose 2 games. Then Day will get fired.

The Ohio st OC is better than the UCLA head coaching Job. Kelly just wants to coach football to young men. He doesn't want to fundraise an recruit own players.
