      We live in a multi acre neighborhood that used to be a farm. It’s like living in a park. Because of that, we’ve never felt constricted by taking yearly vacations. Haven’t traveled much since 2018. Haven’t missed it, love being home and doing our interests.

    The secret is to have a routine that you love doing every day, especially if it's in the morning. You will always look forward to waking up. For me: feeding my cat, walk for 30-40 minutes, make/drink coffee while reading books for an hour. No matter what happen after that, it was already a great day.

    My husband and I were literally just talking about this! It was our day off, we were playing video games, our cat was snuggled up with us and he just turned to me and asked, “do you love our life? I love our life.” And I told him I do!
    I left my stressful job in the fall, we’re learning budgeting and living more frugally, and we serve our community and we serve our church. Our little apartment is full of laughter and music and friends. It’s so simple but we truly cherish it.
    For so long we were grinding and working but threw our money away on dumb stuff. Now we work less, save more, and are working toward goals that hopefully will make us more self sufficient. We still have dreams but they’re not as glamorous for some but they work for our values and our family. Your videos have also helped a ton! Thank you Gabe!

      You're a rare woman and your husband is lucky to have you (based just on not chasing money). I'm such a man who in fhe last few years have hated the rat race and am now content, to an extent, with living frugally. However, finding a partner who is similar minded is almost impossible in today's insane hustle, I want everything under the sun world.

    I heard you talk about traveling, I find traveling stressful. I had a week and half off around Christmas and when I got back to work every single person kept asking me "Where did you go?" "What did you do?" I live in Europe, where it is super easy and cheap to fly or even drive to any number of other countries, but it is still stressful and cost money. Everyone looked at me like I had sprouted a second head when I told everyone I went nowhere and did nothing except relax at home for ten days with movies and video games, and that I even lost track of a sleeping schedule, went to bed when tired, get up when not tired, no matter what time it was. I have to say it was the best vacation I have had in a long time, no pressure to go see something, or be with people, no hotel or food bills. Hope I get to do it again.

    • @ayumisae6864
      @ayumisae6864 4 місяці тому +12

      Exactly that, even though I also live in Europe and enjoy travelling, people seem to forget that it costs money to travel and usually a lot of energy and time. Even to get away somewhere at the weekend you end up spending so much time and money to then get back to work on a Monday feeling more tired. Delays also happen which then ends up a stressed out journey back home. At the end of the day sometimes we don’t need all this stress and would rather relax at home doing what you described 😊

    • @JamieClements1982
      @JamieClements1982 4 місяці тому +12

      I agree… I’m in the states and traveling isn’t my thing. When I get back I feel like I need a vacation to rest from the vacation. Plus, I detest hotels. They all seem growse. I don’t want to spend a ton of money for a room that I can’t enjoy. Our eat out at overpriced food. We took a cruise last summer and I thought this will be relaxing. I wasn’t on the boat for an hour before I was ready for it to be over. 😂 There was so many people and it was an introverts nightmare. We like to take day trips. Go to places that are an hour or two away and we can be home that night. I even remember being that way as a kid. I could never do camps or spend the nights. I would stay with close family and that’s it.

    • @JEJUinDE

      I live in Germany and I loved travelling. But lately found it very stressful as I organize everything, searching for cheap flights, cheap hotels near public transport, where to go and what to visit. All these things consume alot of time and energy, and the travel itself is just as stressful especially when there's alot of tourists in the place you visit. Next time I will just stay in a place where there's not a lot of people and just enjoy local food and sceneries. I guess I'm getting old 😅

    • @ayumisae6864
      @ayumisae6864 4 місяці тому +3

      @@JamieClements1982 That is so true! A cruise sounds like an absolute nightmare. Also I have found that while travelling it's hard to find food that is not overpriced and tasty and home cooked meals just taste so much better & are healthier and cheaper. Also agree about hotels, I can never settle to sleep in them and they are so expensive. Day trips are definitely the best.

They need vacations; they don't want them. (Big difference.) Since you aren't doing the same, they think you're boring. No! They're boring which is why they need to constantly distract themselves. This is a great video! Personally, I just retired after 30 years of civil service and now draw a pension. People are always asking me and my wife "Don't you want to work?" "What do you do all day?" I have so much to do at home, we are actively attempting to purge belongings and downsize, going through each area of our home, and that is a full-time job right now! We are focusing on our health, and our relationship with each other. I just found your channel, and I think it will be a great source of inspiration for us. All the best and God Bless!

    Gabe, I love it! I traveled for work for almost 7 years. Never home, always on the road. I thought I loved it and then covid hit. I was home and I learned how to slow down and relax. I discovered the process of making a great cup of coffee in the morning and look forward to that every single day. I quit my job in October 2020 and I am a homebody. My dogs love it, I have adopted another dog and I work on my hobbies, go fishing and got back into photography again. You do not have a boring life, if anything, you are truly living! Maybe I will create a channel after completing your course! Excellent video!

    Haha, you spoke directly to me. I feel exactly the same. Whenever we go somewhere for a couple of nights because my husband and daughter love to be more out and about, i cannot wait to come back home to my life and my routines. I think the more intentional you are with creating your life exactly how you want it to be at home, you do not feel the need to escape it. I optimized everything (or almost everything) as i want it to be - including making sourdough bread😂❤

    The perfect day is on the beach listening and smelling the waves. I have a boring life but I do like to cruise to Caribbean. Once a year try to do that. My life is slow, Im retired and sometimes I don’t even get the car out of the garage. I understand. A little of people interaction goes a long way but I do enjoy people then I go home to my books and drink tea! We can’t save the world, but we can make our corner safe and comforting.

    Our last vacation, we came home a day early because we felt good with everything we had done on the trip and just felt like it was time to go home.
    Slow and consistent is the way to harmony for us.

    Thanks for another inspiring video. As a therapist, husband and father, I think that being home more often with your child and wife is what most men would want and you have achieved. The moments you spend with your child is precious and finite. No wonder you'd want to stay home more and if your source of income can be achieved at home, it's a win-win!
    Take care,

    This is my favourite video you’ve made thus far (following for about a year) because I believe it’s truly one of life’s greatest revelations. So much of what we see is just smoke & mirrors so YOU DO YOU BOO. I’m 38 and one of the most peace-inducing things is letting go of societal expectations/norms and just living the life YOU want. Got rid of social media (aside from YT) a year ago and I’ll never go back. Helps to stay present and be grateful for what I have. Keep making videos Gabe - you’re really good at it. Also, please ask Meredith to do a layman’s ‘How To’ on sourdough on her channel. 😁🙏❤️ - Sincerely, a Fellow Homebody 🏡

    @joeyscars4947 5 місяців тому +4

    Two important points in the video that struck me (with my interpretations and perspective added):
    1. Having a secure and sustainable life is more important than having a "non-boring" life.
    Much of life is "boring" or actually boring. Much of life is repeat and routine. Thankfully, my father beat this into my brain and a I grew up a little, allowing me to see this. It is important to try to enjoy you life "as it is" and appreciate the boring things. As OP stated, 90% (I would argue more) of life is boring. Many things that other people think are exciting are boring. Just find what you like to do and pursue that (not ignoring your responsibilities, of course).
    2. How you travel is just as important as where you travel.
    My family has been very into traveling for a long time. My parents have been to the majority of the countries in the world. I had the opportunity as a child and teenager to travel to several foreign countries and live in one for several months. I continue to travel domestically on my own and with my parents at times. I increasingly find, however, that I am annoyed at the pace of the travel that is largely imposed on me by my family. Seeing the big tourist things can be fun, particularly on your first visit to a new city/area. But if you get to go back to the same area, it is good to consider alternative options and see some lesser-known attractions. Going slow and spending some time just enjoying nature and/or a slow paced meal/night out, etc can be just as interesting and enjoyable as doing the big tourist thing. If you are moving faster than you find comfortable, you are likely missing out on things you might find enjoyable.
    Also, don't buy a Tesla. They are having a lot of quality problems now. It has been confirmed that Tesla knew about these problems and did nothing to fix them until a recent recall. Elon Musk is, at best, a greedy slime, and, more likely, working actively to undermine the foundations of our society. He is a poor businessman who is driving a multi-billion dollar platform into the ground to try to satisfy his own vanity. Don't choose to support his bad behavior. You are better off just buying a older car that can be worked on and learning how to work on it, if you are interested in such an activity. Obviously, I don't know you for shit, just trying to provide you with knowledge that might be helpful. Thanks for the video.

    • @Dennis0824
      @Dennis0824 4 місяці тому +1

      I agree. DON'T buy a Tesla. You will regret that. Until the battery cost issues are resolved, you will be throwing your money down the drain. After a few years, you will either have to fork out $20k for a new battery or dump the car since it will have virtually no resale value.

    I spent a month in Ireland when I was a kid and absolutely loved it. We rented two or three houses and enjoyed the little things. Seeing a wild buck in the forest on one of the properties we stayed on and having ducklings follow me are beautiful memories I still cherish over 25 years later. It really is the little things ❤

That will bring a smile to your face and help you you get in touch with what you enjoy now - it will be a little path that will bring you enlightenment. So beautiful to read these comments and see how many people are truly happy being more frugal and living a more solo private life. All the social media pressure to go and do and buy and collect is so wrong. It’s just propaganda for misery. I love being a loner. I love God. I love walking and reading and my pets and my parrot. The true meaning of life is gratitude and to have peace and contentment when you walk into your home and close the front doors. Life just doesn’t get any better than that.

    Being thankful for the beautiful days to enjoy. Not having debt. Owning a wonderful 3/2 home! Able to go work out. Being retired and healthy. Watching informative videos and reading wonderful books. Working on a craft or project. Taking Mom out to lunch. Going to worship. Not having bills. Sitting and brushing my cat. Cooking. Cleaning my home. Calling a homebound friend and having deep meaningful conversations. Volunteering at my local library. There is so very much to do that owning better things really doesn't figure into it. This is where my happiness comes from. Gratefulness in where you are, who you love and the wonderful life we have!

    This video made me realize so many things. In my 20’s and 30’s, I was the guy who was always doing something. I was always traveling, going to concerts, games, and events, meeting friends for dinner or drinks, and basically just always on the go. Over the last few years, I’ve stopped a lot of that and now spend most of my time at home. I read for two to three hours a day and spend a couple hours each day writing. It’s an extremely “boring” life…but I love it. I still do things occasionally and I enjoy them, but all things being equal, I’d rather be home reading.
    This video made me realize that I have accidentally built a life that I don’t want to escape from. A life where I don’t need a vacation because I’m truly happy living my day to day. It made me realize that the reason I’m not at events isn’t because I can’t attend them due to time or money, but because I would rather just be home doing the things I enjoy. I had wondered why I didn’t do much anymore but your video helped me see that it’s because I choose not to. I am truly happy just being me and I don’t need to do things to make me happy. My life of reading, writing, and teaching, may seem boring, but to me, it’s exactly what I want to be doing.
    Thank you for opening my eyes and helping me see that there is nothing wrong with enjoying the little things in my daily routine and that what other people consider happiness isn’t what I consider happiness.

    This is a great video. I've spent years chasing more and more $$$ all over the country, but a few years ago I found myself back in the Midwest working 3 12-hour shifts a week at a hospital.
    I only recently realized that the job I have taking care of patients 3 days a week is bliss, even though it's sometimes stressful while I'm there. 3 12's per week, and done. I make a difference in people's lives when I'm working, but I'm off when I leave the facility and it's only 12 days a month.
    It's almost like being retired, I think. It makes me feel silly for ever leaving bedside care to chase more $.
    I'm happy to have finally learned this, and all I really do now is go to the hospital and hang out with my Dad and family when I'm off.
    I wish I would have started living like this 20 years ago.

    Last year in November, higher management told me in a meeting that my coworker said I was boring. I'm not boring at all. In my opinion I believe in the world we live in today, extroverts are the popular people. Extroverts are people who talk all the time, going out somewhere, shopping all the time and the life of the party.
    As I get older I'm going more for the simpler life. I talk at work but not as much because work needs to get done. I like to slow down and go for walks on the weekend with my daughter. Gabe you are not boring and neither am I. We have lifestyles that others don't do, that's my opinion.

    I think it comes down to how each of us are "wired". I've been a life-long introvert (except for my job which is a commercial photographer and on set sometimes I feel like a circus ring-leader). I'm content by myself. When my partner is away, I realize on a Monday morning that I have not had a conversation all weekend long. We moved our business from NYC to Chicago a few years ago and I have not made any friends here---prob because I just don't care about socializing. Almost everything I find interesting I can do by myself. Conversely, when working I totally enjoy the team mindset and all the camaraderie it entails. But almost never go out after work with the crew. Like you, I just don't care... and ps. I'm a minimalist also...I wonder if a shared trait?

    I love this kind of life! And I agree about travel. I don’t want to rush just to check places off of a list. I want to live in the different locations for a short time to see what life is like there.
    Thanks for the encouragement to do what we really love!

    Do what makes u feel happy.Stressfree.If it brings u joy ....don't explain it to anyone.Its what is called being content.Just be pleased ,u realised it whilst u are still pretty young.Make the most of every moment.
