It's been an interesting and frustrating month. I have barely recorded any videos, and it seems like some shit comes up every time I get a chance to. My mother recently visited, which was nice, but there's been some things that have happened in the past few weeks that have just made me quite angry and I didn't want to bring that energy to my videos. I'll probably mention it a bit more in my next video, which won't take another 2 weeks to release like this one 🥶
This was a fantastic reaction/review 😊 I think you described the entire album there perfectly, dark and ominous but with a beam of light shining through breeding hope in every song. The first time I head Phalaris I had a real physical experience. This album is like nothing Dir en grey have ever done and it feels so incredibly fitting in these times. Before the release Kyo often said in interviews that corona wouldn't/didn't change much of the recording process, the way he writes his lyrics or how the album would turn/turned out, but I feel like it did...like the bands attitude towards music and its meaning has changed over the last years. It's like they felt a need to not only express all those 'dark' feelings but to bring hope to people and express their wish for peace and autonomous thinking/acting. Other bands might have turned that into a warning but Dir en grey simply show what is and contrast our possibilities through the sound of their music. This album feels almost gentle to me, like a warm hug that gives you the strength to do the kind thing even when it's the most difficult path to take (not just kind to others, but kind to oneself, the environment and a future we might not see ourselves. A kindness that is the opposite of greed and indifference).
I didn't even think of the fact that they were writing and recording this throughout the pandemic, that may very well be why there is despair and hope in each song. Very easy to relate that to current times/issues.
Gallows are supposedly 13 steps up because you need that many to break someone's neck with the fall, which is what I think he is referencing there. That line fits perfectly with your interpretation even with that in mind though (with just an extra layer of meaning). He references the 13 stairs thing in Vinushka as well although in that songs it comes with an explicit mention of hanging. The number 13 is also associated with negative things including death and is similar to how the number 4 is looked at in Japan, which is also the number of this song on the tracklist. This is one of my favorites as well :D
I did know about the 13 steps and i did make that connection with Vinushka mentioning the same thing, but i never picked up on the fact its track number 4 (relating to its significance)
The thirteen steps - I believe someone already mentioned the thirteen steps to the gallows - the lyrics mention looking down the steps, not up, make me wonder if it's a reference to walking away from death instead of towards it, the path not taken. I saw the 'never die' sort of call and response almost more of a solemn promise, a vow that as long as you live, you can change This album, my dude, is good shit - I Love that you share enjoying and appreciating it with us, it's a good feeling :) can't wait for you to go through the rest
you were pretty spot on with your thoughts about the lyrics/meaning of the song during listening to it, thats how good the song is.😍😍 This song is also one of my favourites and there's so much emotion in this song.
i really enjoyed your expressed words during the music!!! you have been leveling up! 🎉 There exist 12 zodiac houses above us. These twelve apostles sire the 13th = Jesus Christ, which is not a new house, but the unity of the 12 as a zodiac wheel. { Same for me; MARMALADE CHAINSAW: One twelve two eleven three ten four nine "death" thirteen. A clockwork of "death" thirteen. }

Life happens man, and it sometimes happens all at once - hope shit gets better!
