First of all a great little video, thank you and second of all, a nice little glimpse of reality into what seemed like a quick little job. I'm showing this video to my wife. DIY channels on television and things go so smooth and so fast. She wonders why it takes me longer? I run into problems she thinks I'm doing something wrong. Another thing I like is running into things where you have to keep going to the store. My wife always tells me" why don't you get what you need before you get started?" 😂
That's when you hand the wrench to your wife, and go inside to watch the game.
Cheers!!😂
I can do anything a professional can with twice the time and 4 trips to the store
I actually appreciate the honest mistakes that occur to you! It definitely makes it seem less artificial. I am looking forward to seeing the bbq grill also up on the deck next to that privacy wall. [and maybe a demo of switching the lines?]
shivering black bell and thumbs up! glad that your Matt is such a willing assistant!
Normally I don’t comment or give thumbs👍 to home improvement channels or their content creator(s) but you my friend are awesome. You do a great job helping all of us fix or renovate our homes. Your work is very meticulous. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whenever something comes in a roll like that, unroll it. Don't just set it down and take from the top, walk it out and physically roll it. Then pull it into the conduit.
Thank you Mr Jeff for your time mistakes are good lessons.
Don't know how you take the humility.
Life is a series of mistakes that you learn from. no worries! Cheers!
I'm glad I watched the whole video before commenting, because I was gonna mention the tape and flared gas fitting. 😊
Cool Jeff. Hey, I just took care of my nail pops just like you bought me. Thanks!
Nice vid, thank you! One little tip - use a little blue painter's tape to mark your center for drilling the hole and also two corners for final positioning of the fire pit. Will save a lot of "1 inch this way and 1/2 inch that way."
Your videos are so very helpful…….. I can’t thank you enough…….
This is the most quality deck job I've seen on YT. Great deck building video for learning.
Wish the backyard would be a little larger and had more privacy.
it wasnt til the end I realised it wasnt a big cup of frothy beer sitting on the bench lol great video would love to see the outtake f bomb footage haha
Well thanks for showing us this. I’m happy to know I can use a BBQ extension gas line.❤
cheers!
Awesome video.
Nice work
Brother, I'm bad about giving thumbs up, but You Rock!
Could you put a portable splitter at the house quick connect and then connect your bbq and firepit to the splitter?
THIS! This is how projects work for me.
Best laid plans... 😂
@@tradermunky1998 pretty much. I’ll plan everything out and then something breaks, or, right after everything is apart I’ll be missing one piece. Teaches you to practice calm, lol
Great job as always looks really nice marshmallows baby
could i put the conduit underground? run that gas hose you using in the video thru that?
Thats correct, if you use tape on flared ends, you create a gap and gas leaks, flared ends are self sealing.
I was going to say something about the tape, same is true with hydraulic fittings.
Hi there, I was looking at the link for the Dekko fire pit and there is no pricing. Is there a different link. Btw, I am also situated in Canada cheers.
Omg, when Matt's hand came up, it reminded me of Thing from The Addams Family lol
I have a broken toe so I won’t be moving it myself, as Jeff walks around in sandals. 😆
I’m sure it’s just because wear shoes hurts but still found it funny.
You can also buy the natural gas dope.
Should really use air first for testing before pressurizing with natural gas. Then bubble test after.
Hi there , what is the price ? thank you
Please tell me where you got your utility knife. Been looking everywhere for one just like it.
you can get them at Home Depot or use our link in the video description and get one tomorrow from Amazon. Cheers!
I just picked up a natural gas kit for my fire bowl and I've run across a couple videos elsewhere that suggested a regulator. Did you use a natural gas regulator for your install? Also, what did the line look like coming off of your natural gas pipe.
call a plumber. 300 bucks or 300 hours of "yeah but i checked that".
This is me anytime brass fittings are involved. I'll do drain line plumbing all day but once you start getting threaded brass involved? Count me out. I don't want to go to the store 5x for one job.
Can that hose be buried?
The reason the firepit came with a flare by MIP adapter is just in case you have an FIP connection. If you have a flare connection, they expect you to have a male flare to mate their female flare. In your case, you had a female flare end to your hose so you needed the flare coupling. In theory you could buy a differnt hose with male flare. The same would have been true if you had an MIP connection, you would need a FIP coupling.
I think it’s great that your helping people learn simple skills to help them save money on simple jobs but being a gas tech myself I do find it very cringy when your trying to send home a pipe thread into a flare fitting with Teflon tape on it 😬
Other then that love the videos
I might have made the same mistake. Sometimes, it help to have a clear mind. Cuz otherwise, if you're not taking time to think, we do dum stuff 🤪
Where do you get your geotextile? I can't tell if any of the places I'm looking are the quality you recommend.
best to go to a nursery! I have never been happy with landscape cloth sold at box stores.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY excellent advice, sir! Done and done. Now I can finish my planter beds this week.
I bought this same firepit, and I was wondering why you don't see the flames that much, you can feel the heat but the flames are clear. It kind looks like yours is doing the same at the end. Any idea why?
Visible yellow flames actually mean a fire isn’t burning cleanly
Why is there no pricing on the Dekko website? Does anyone know what that model firepit sells for? Thank you.
Honey, if you have to ask… you can’t afford it.
@@hickorysocks2628 Fair enough. I read later in the comments it's $4K. That is insane for what essentially boils down to a concrete block with a fire pit kit installed in it.
@@TheFiftyQuid Darling it’s called decadence. I spend 4 grand on lunch with friends. 🤷😌
@@hickorysocks2628 I wish I had gone to lunch with you just to hold the door to the restaurant open.
all the tree huggers have those heat the outside heaters around here its funny
I'm looking for a hose like that, is there an issue with the Amazon hose for it to split like that? And if so, where else can I get that other 30ft 1/2" hose with a quick connect? I plan to use mine to connect to my barbecue and to a natural gas generator in a bind...
Some things just don't need to be over titened. some water will solve the question of how tight to get it.
Jeff was overthinking it. I've done super high-pressure air lines many times. It normally comes down to how much Teflon is to much or too little. And how corses the threads are. corses thred big pipe fitings can take up to 7 wraps and more.
The point is that the hoes is ether cheap or just over titening.
I got the replacement at a local BBq dealer. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thank you!
Short answer is that it was probably a cheap fitting. That flared connection doesn't require tape because the matching cone surfaces of the male and female create the seal needed, as long as there is enough torque supplied to make a tight seal. Jeff is right that you should make sure it is pretty tight, but all fittings have a limit to how much torque it can handle without deforming or cracking. Side note: the reason the tape is needed for the MIP threads is that the thread itself is what makes the seal, but there will always be a small gap between the mating threads. Using the proper teflon tape fills in those gaps while still allowing the threads to rotate.
How many times do you wrap gas Teflon
Minimum of 3
Why not cut a few 26" 2x4's and use them as guides? :)
You don’t use teplhon on gas first off, second off that is a flare fitting, it seals on the flare not the threads
Love this video. I think its cause of all the hiccups.
So no Full Rambo??m
That's scary about getting water in the concrete pits. I live in an area where it rains all the time so I wouldn't get that.
Can you legally hook up gas without license ?
The connection point is installed by a licensed gas installer. He's just connecting a quick connect hose to it. It's like plugging your vacuum into the wall, but in this case the vacuum is a fire pit. You'll hear it click into place when it connects properly.
yes! to a shutoff valve. not running the gas supply to the shutoff.
No lo necesita es cónica
He said read instructions. I forget about those lol.
Eating good eh!? 😉
That enormous square hole in the deck!! 😢😢😢😢😢
Jeff Wouldn't it have been easier to put 4 pieces of tape on the deck on all 4 corners Then remove tape perfect every time
perhaps. Cheers!
Oh lord. Put the thing down, light it up, and start the party. Nobody gives a *hit about a quater of an inch after a G&T. 😆😂
Doesn't have a auto ignition? Seems like an old design. I have not seen any gas items without auto ignition for a long time.
those always end up failing anyway
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Fair. It is a safety and convenience issue. If it fails, repair/mainenance? I heard that argument for old cooktops but in AU, everything has it and electric ignition. Also, Bayonet Hose is not a thing in Canada?
Look at you, Shorts and Flip Flops 😅😅, U must be in Fl.
This was built in Ottawa late last summer into the fall. Cheers!
ugh, rapid fire jump cuts are back. my head hurts
Wow! I cannot believe you're allowed to do gas work yourself in Canada!
You're not even allowed to hook up a gas cooker yourself here in the UK.
It HAS to be done by a certified Gas Safe engineer!
enjoy the govt nanny
@@sc0rp404 yeah it's great fun.
Although, in this case its irrelevant anyway as UK houses don't come with external gas lines, so an engineer would have to come regardless.
A certified gas fitter is needed. Gas is NOT a diy project. This is not hooking up a propane tank to a barbeque. If there were to be an explosion the insurance company, in conjunction with the Fire Marshall, would deem diy-er was at fault and your insurance claim would be denied. It's not about ability but by regulation. Be careful of UA-camrs like this.
@@michaelm1207 is that still true in Canada though?
$4000 for those interested.
For the Dekko? You gotta be kidding. It's literally concrete and a gas firepit kit.
@@TheFiftyQuid it’s also got no igniter lol. gotta bring your own lighter
When you build yourself you can afford to add luxury features. Cheers!
A lot of mistakes that weren’t corrected 😬
I have a broken toe today. Well, you'll have one tomorrow to, and next week!
The tend to grow totaly crooked when you don't take youre rest, i have one to. The other 9 are just fine, so 90% is good.
I mean, what do you do with toes, realisticly thinking. You wiggle them in water, and........ well thats it.
And a gasburner outside? Gas kosts 1.25 euro a cubic meter. I know, right. Thats 1.89 Canadian Dollar for 3 cubic feet. And i live on top of the biggest gas suplie of Europe, only the sold that so now we have to import it. Great leaders over here.
Gozer, zo groot is de Grunn gasbubbel niet, laat staan dat het op een handige plek is.
@@lijpowww Zoals de naam al zegt, Lijpo.
Brave (or stupid) plumbers use a lighter to test for leaks. 😂
After 33 years of working in the gas industry, almost every state required a licensed installer for gas equipment and a permit!
this appliance is no different than a bbq. Cheers!
This guy is a cracker jack. This is NOT a bbq and hooking up a 1 lb or 20 lb cylinder. Insurance company and Fire Marshall will declare fault and "no claim for you". Just another wanna be youtuber.
had no idea bbq wasnt gas equipment. how is it heated@@HomeRenoVisionDIY?
The nonsense king
this sure didnt look that easy
Dude hire a plumber you're gonna kill someone
dude. this is going to get people hurt. watched the full thing before commenting. this is a fast way from the word go to be a pain in the butT for the gas company and a huge waist of money for the customer. with gas SIZE MATTERS. ( SO DOES PRESSURE SHORT KINGS.) "Home RenoVision DIY" needs to call a real plumber and hvac tech to find out why. DIY this and find out...
red green if the show was serious...
its one thing to share YOUR knowledge on building decks.... but i hope you realize that your diy approach to gas installation can cause serious harm and damage... at the very least you owe your viewers a followup video on this matter
The amount of edits in this video is so annoying.
Make a better nose…
Not *ONE* tree in that entire neighborhood. No gas fireplace in the world is going to make that place feel homey. 🤥
