- No Boil Three Cheese Manicotti
(No Meat, Freezer Meal)
24 oz. cottage cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
8 oz. package manicotti shells
2-24 oz. jars pasta sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
In a large bowl, gently stir together the first eight ingredients on the list.
Spoon into a piping bag, or a large gallon sized baggie. Snip off the corner of the bag, making a hole the correct size to fit into the end of a manicotti shell.
Spray your baking dish. Spread a thin layer of the pasta sauce in the bottom of a 9”x 13“ baking pan. Squeeze the cheese filling from the bag into the manicotti shells, one at a time. You’ll have to fill each one from both ends of each shell. Place the cheese filled shells into the pan on top of the pasta sauce.
Once the pan is filled, pour the remaining sauce over the shells, completely covering the shells. Top with the rest of the shredded mozzarella cheese. If you like, sprinkle on a little more grated Parmesan cheese.
IF FREEZING: Place this in the freezer to freeze solid before placing a lid on top. If you put on the lid and then freeze it, the mozzarella cheese will stick to the lid. Once it is frozen solid, put a lid on top and label with the baking directions.
TO BAKE: Remove the freezer meal from the freezer the day before and store in your refrigerator to allow it to thaw. You can also leave it on the countertop for several hours to give it a head start on the thawing process.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375°. Remove the lid from the pan and bake for one hour or until the shells are tender and the cheese is bubbly. Remove from the oven and let it stand for 10 minutes for the shells to absorb any liquid.
I have done this and not boiled the noodles, but cover with foil and the noddles will be soft. If you want to make it and bake it immediately. I’ve done it with lasagna noodles too. I use regular lasagna noodles and cover pan when it bakes and they come out soft and cooked.
I am a widow and this is a good idea to make a freezer meal with 3 in a small container and I have a meal ready in no time. Every thing you all make looks so good. You are my most favorite channel!
Thank you! You’re so incredibly sweet! We really appreciate that you’re watching.
I think i would cover it with foil while it bakes. When it's done i would uncover it and let the cheese brown just a little. That looks a little too brown for me.
I watch a lot of cooking videos. You and Melissa are by far the most organized and fun to watch. I also appreciate that you include the recipe in the description. Thanks so much for all that you share. I'm puzzled that you would serve pasta on top of pasta. Is that the way manicotti is normally served or is that just your preference? Love your tee-shirt 😃 I bought the ingredients today to make this manicotta. My husband of 56 years loves pasta :)
We often have it served like that in restaurants we visit. But it’s simple enough to cut out the spaghetti if you want to reduce some carbs. Thank you for the nice comment. We really do you!
My youngest daughter makes this from scratch. Noodles, sauce and cheese mixture. Takes her hours.
i used a water bottle and it worked fine, i cut off the bottom to fill it with and squeezed it through
I have never bought purchased store sauce……I always make my own homemade sauce. Usually w/ ground beef, but many times w/ out. When I don’t fry hamburger U chop celery , onions and green pepper and put in sautéed. You’ve got me hungry now!
Your sauce sounds great! I hope you can enjoy this soon.
LOVE Italian food. Never have made. Lazana, ziti. YUMMY.❤️❤️❤️
Hello again Tom & Melissa. Tom, you have thevbest tips! I've used a bag like tgst, but I've never thought about putting the bag in a jar, thanks. I've made something similar using the jumbo pasta shells. I just add 10 oz. Of thawed spinach to the filling. I cook the noodles and make it the same day. Unfortunately we do not have a very small freezer, because we live in an apartment. Dishes like this are delicious! God bless 🙌 you both.
I love your videos! Such a welcomed break from the other creators I (choose to) watch. I love cottage cheese cold but since childhood, I've had a texture issue with cottage cheese in lasagna or anything baked. As an adult, I made mine with ricotta cheese until I realized it's very cost prohibitive. Here's my ricotta cheese hack...
Start with full fat 4% small curd cottage and blend it smooth. It's one more step but it's one I'm willing to do to save money and get the texture I desire. Thanks for the freezer meal recipe. I will break it down to a 6 count pan to accommodate my household size. One thing I saw but you didn't mention was how you laid the manicotti in the pan. I'm glad I noticed your method so it doesn't spill out the ends.
Sounds good enough for a quick freezer meal. I do not suggest serving manicotti, which is a pasta on top of another pasta. That’s a bit over kill with the carbs. Issaquah, WA 🇺🇸
Thank you for this tutorial. I will make them smaller because I'm the only one that will eat it.
You could freeze several smaller meals with this recipe. We love meal prepping like that! Cook once- eat multiple times is very efficient we believe. Thanks for watching.
Love your channel! Tom, please use Ricotta cheese in place of cottage cheese so much better, and maybe add an egg to the cheese mixture. Also putting parmigiana cheese adds great flavor like restaurant style.😉😊
Tom Melissa your the best. Everything you make looks great and easy!! Love prairie farms has the best whole milk!! 😋
I'm going to make some of this soon! Thanks again!
Looks so good tom a melissa my I love any Italian dish.we make alota spaghetti w 5 grand kids a 3 adults like a new recipe so good got to try this thanks.
Wonderful quick meal👍🏼
YUM! Look at that cheese. Looks delicious
Looks yummy. Love Manicotti
Thank you for posting this
You are welcome. We hope you enjoy it.
My sister loves it made with cottage cheese. My mother insisted on ricotta. I like it both ways. Neither way is the right or wrong way. It's yours and you do you. LOL...Love your videos. Glad I found your channel. I'm hooked.
No boil pasta’s are the best. I’d probably make my own sauce most of the time. Sometimes though I wanted to be quick and easy as possible. Thanks for another delicious recipe
We agree that anything you make is better than store bought - but we like the Roas sauce a lot and for traveling purposes, it’s definitely a great time saver.
If you are running out of filling when you get to the last manicotti, you can add tomato sauce and cottage cheese to the filling before piping it in.
Love your shirt... and the recipe is great, too. Thanks for sharing. 🌞
We love a fun shirt and this one was a gift from our oldest daughter. We hope you enjoy the manicotti.
Thanks for sharing your recipes
Thanks for sharing your recipes. I would love to be sitting at your table. Eating all those delicious meals love that T-shirt.keep cooking I enjoy watching!
Tthanks for this video. Looks delicious.
You’re very welcome. We appreciate you watching us. We enjoy this recipe a lot. We hope you do, too.
Oh my goodness! I made these last night and they were a hit! They are so good!! Thank you!
You are so welcome! We appreciate your nice comments!
WOW! Spaghetti and Manicotti...Holy Pasta Batman! I don't eat much anymore. I can't brethe well if I eat too much. The manicotti and a salad is enough for me. And that manicotti looks delicious!
Love it❤
Thank you! We really appreciate that you've watched our channel.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I make manicotti at least 3 times a year, but I’ve never seen it served with spaghetti. A bit too much pasta for me.
Try using Ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese. It has a richer flavor. Also, I add a beaten egg and some chopped parsley to my cheese mixture. This was my grandmother’s recipe and she really cooked Italian.
T&M, I just love watching your vids. I especially like that you fill us in on the details of your lives: your kids are coming, you’re having your scrapbook friends over, you’re hosting a New Year’s party, whatever … years ago I heard a man, I think he was a professional football player, say, if you wanted to get your wife interested in football, tell her about the players’ families, their wives, their kids, details … it keeps them interested! So, it isn’t just the WONderful food, it’s your lives. I want to come to your game nights!! 😬😜
We had manicotti for dinner last night! Delicious!❤
We love reading this! We are so glad you've made it and enjoyed it. Thank you so much!
The ravioli looks so good and not really too much work!
Thank you for the great tips and hacks! Just when my hubby and I are saying but what if you do not have.......you share a tip. The zip lock bag, mason jar, and writing on cover lid of tin pan hacks are great. We are wondering if you can use ricotta cheese in place of cottage cheese and if it would be okay to sprinkle of crumbles of hamburger meat on top with cheese. We are late to this video so not sure you guys will see question. God Bless!
Love your shirt.
Very nice, thank you
You’re welcome. We thought it was very good. Hope you get to enjoy it.
FYI: spray the inside of the lid with butter or oil spray and cheese wont stick.
Love the tee shirt!
Tom loves his T-shirts! Thank you for watching.
Oh my goodness ❤!
It's so good! Hope you can try it soon. Thank you so much for watching.
Hello Again, So I made this meal also as a freezer meal for my kids to take with them on their holiday to Florida. And they just loved it. Always, Cathy
That’s fantastic and we really appreciate you letting us know they enjoyed it! We really enjoy taking freezer meals with us on vacation. We like trying new restaurants when we’re in new places but sometimes it’s great to have food so we can stay in as well. Especially when we are at the beach!
Interestingly, in Australia, manicotti are known as cannelloni.
Tom and Melissa I can’t wait to make this. I just love your channel. I have a question. If I have a recipe that I come across from another channel how do I send it to you for you to try. I’d love to share it with you. 🥰🥰
Have you always had an interest in cooking? Were you young when you started cooking? I was one of three girls and at meal prep time we were all made to help out in the kitchen. It wasn’t work for me bc I loved it and I still love it! I’m interested in your story. It would be nice for you to go into that while cooking one day or just make a video about how you got started.
His dad started him cooking when he was young because cooking is a very practical skill people need. But it quickly became something he loved and he's collected recipes for many, many years!
@@comesitatmytable9044 thank you Melissa. You are right. It is a skill that we all need to know at least at the basic level .
I make a huge pot of meat sauce when I make my lasagna. I use regular lasagna noodles not the no-bake. But I do not boil the noodles. I sauce it about like you did and I bake it for an hour. The noodles cook in that sauce soaking up the flavor of the sauce and they are perfectly Al Dente. I don't like mushy noodles. I don't think I've ever made manicotti although I do love it. So not certain it would work the same but I would imagine as long as it was covered in sauce it likely would. It's pretty much the same kind of noodle. Now I want some manicotti! lol
Where did you get the idea to serve the manicotti on top of spaghetti! I line that idea so much, but I’ve never seen this before! can’t wait to make this for my family!!
I wish I could say it was our original idea but we've actually had it served like this in our local Italian restaurant. It is a great combination, and we hope you enjoy it like we do. Thank you so much for watching our channel.
In the first part of this video where you made the manicotti, you wrote and read from the lid to bake at 375 1 hour; But in the second half in Florida you said you baked at 350 for 1 hour. Please clarify what temperature to bake at. Thank you.
Add cheese after it has baked
Everything looks delicious but I'm wondering why the excess of pasta ? I'd use the manicotti as main course, with salad and bread. Then use the spaghetti as a separate main course for another meal. Also, I'd like it with meat sauce too.
That would be a great way to do it as well. We have had the two pastas combined at several Italian restaurants we've visited so it's just another option you have. But it's certainly not necessary. And I do love meat sauce so that's yet another option. Very versatile dish, that's for sure. Have a nice day and we wish you a very Happy New Year.
When I make this I use Ricotta cheese and actually is almost the same a cottage cheese.
Also I would add maybe 1 or 2 tsp of dried parsley to the cheese filling.
How long does this need to remain frozen before thawing and baking? I'm sorry if you said that in your video and I missed it.
I sure hope you didn't burn your mouth, that was scorching hot. Thank you for another great recipe.
He seemed just fine afterwards so I think he was okay. I’m always more cautious. Especially when I’m trying to film and eat! We appreciate you watching the video!
Do you ever have an issue with the tomato sauce reacting with the aluminum of the tray. I have had tomato based foods "burn" little holes in the aluminum pan.
Spray foil with Pam spray before covering and go ahead and freeze.
I would like to make these but it would be hard to fill the noodles once cooked. Any suggestions? Someone looks like they are getting a tan. Hope you all are enjoying your selfs. I have a brother who lives in Florida. thanks for sharing such wonderful recipes.
You stuff the noodles without boiling them. They’ve easy to prepare that way. They soften up wonderfully when they’re baked.
We’re certainly enjoying our time in Florida. Sunshine makes us happy!
Is there a good way to make this with meat? Or would it just be better to fry the meat then add the Raos then pour that on top of the manicotti?
FYI , The Rao’s is pronounced ‘Ray O’s’. They have a restaurant in NYC. The best jar sauce. 😊
Over spaghetti ? Unique choice
We love it this way. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it.
Can you substitute ricotta for the cottage cheese?
Have you all tried ricotta cheese, instead of the cottage cheese? That is what I have always used, but cottage cheese is good in a pinch!
I’ve lost the strength in my arms and hands not able to squeeze pastry bag……is there an alternative way to fill the shell?
I just slit the manocotti and place the seam on bottom of baking dish
Maybe its a north, south thing but we in the north only have manicotti and not spaghetti with it
I don't know about the north/south thing but we have had the manicotti with spaghetti and angel hair pasta in several Italian restaurants and we always enjoy the combination. Thanks for watching and we hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
Can you use ricotta cheese instead of cottage?❤
Yes, you can. We hope you enjoy it. Thanks so much for watching our channel.
@@comesitatmytable9044 Thank you for the quick response.
You are welcome.
If it is for a meal now do you boil the noodles?
No. Stuff them without cooking them, then bake them. It would be hard to stuff the noodles if they are already cooked, too.
@@comesitatmytable9044 thank you so much. Love you guys
We really appreciate you for being at the table with us.
No egg in the filling? That's unusual.
WHAT did YOU do!?
Time consuming prep, but looks SO tasty!
Why cottage use cottage cheese; instead of ricotta cheese? Forgot an egg in the recipe. 👍
I don't like to eat out every day, even at home. Homemade is 100% better.
No eggs? Raos (Rayos)
Not for this one!
Cottage cheese is gross. I prefer ricotta cheese. I have never heard of anybody putting Manicotti over spaghetti. That's a new one on me, WOW!
We've been to a few Italian restaurants that serve the manicotti over angel hair pasta, especially. It does make for a very filling meal. Thank you so much for watching our channel.
@@comesitatmytable9044 Maybe it's Italian restaurants in the South. I am originally from the North (Chicago) though I am now in El Paso, Texas. The South does do things differently. For me, I would just think it was too much pasta. I have a thing for too much starch in one meal. I would have garlic bread and a salad with it though.
That’s a winning combination, too.
Lost me at the cottage cheese
Sorry about that - you could substitute other cheese in its place. Thanks for watching and we hope you have a wonderful day!
Your recipe looks great but just a little too brown on top. The cheese looks over baked and I think I would cover it until last 10 or 15 minutes baking time then remove the foil and brown s little on top .
Pasta on top of pasta? Never heard of such a thing. Very unappealing.
