  • RIP George Lindsey May 7th 2012. This was recorded in 1985, but he says he's only 50, yet his obituary says he was born in 1928, which would make him born in 1935. Hmm... Either he was fibbing or the New York Times is.
Anyway, He was a lovable character actor and will always be Goober Pyle to several generations who watched and loved the Andy Griffith Show. This live performance looks like a tour he did as Goober, speaking about the Character that made him Rich! (and famous)
I remember him on Mayberry RFD, which was much inferior to the Griffith show, but, in which highlighted him much more. Who can forget the episode in which Goober Grows a Beard and became an instant intellectual. Gloriously incongruous...!
You will be missed, lovable TV icon!...

I LOVE YOU GOOBER! I had such a crush on him when I was younger. Saw him on M*A*S*H the other night, seems he really did have the southern drawl that he played.

Lefty Lucy: Wow, I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only one! What a load off my mind -- lol! And you're right about the accent; evidently, it was no exaggeration.

If goober had just kept all his comic books, he could have ended up today buying mayberry.

He must have been lying about his age. I actually hung out with him for about a half hour back in the fall of 2007 when I owned and operated my own shop at a mall in Nashville. I think I surprised him with my knowledge of The Andy Griffith Show considering I was only in my mid 20s' at the time. It's always been my favorite television sitcom. However, I remember when I told him that I knew the year he was born and I said 1935 he looked totally bewildered and said "But it's not!" lol! That was the official birth year listed for him several years. I don't think the true 1928 birthdate was actually revealed until he passed away few years ago. A lot of actors lied about their age back then.
