  • RV Tire Covers are an essential piece of gear for every RVer. RV tires typically age out before they wear out, which means there's usually plenty of tread left when it's time to replace them. So it's important to protect against UV damage with RV tire covers for maximum lifespan. That's especially important for larger RVs, since big rig tires can each cost $1,000 to replace!

      1. Will scissor chocks damage the tire covers?
      2. Is there anything in the specs that list the max wind speed before the covers can be torn or damaged?

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  3 роки тому +1

      @@Gunner_Tom We would think that scissor chocks put on before the tire covers would not harm them, but obviously the chocks may be in the way of the covers going on completely. Not sure we’d crank those chocks down against the tire covers, as that would probably not be very good for them over time. As far as wind, we can’t imagine any wind capable of getting behind these tire covers and pulling them off. The metal ring is very strong and tight around the tire, and they are extremely well held in place.

    • @Gunner_Tom

    They do look like a very convenient set of tire covers. We have our coach stored indoors and I don't think it sees daylight more then 3-4 months cumulative per year. The previous owner included a set of snap on covers for the tires but we have never used them. I think now the next time we bring it home I'll try them out and see just how much of a hassle they are. The longest we have stayed in one spot so far is only 5 days. BTW: Nice to see you guys back on UA-cam. The RV'rs must really be taking up a LOT of your time :-)

    Why not use tire shine for short stays???

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  3 роки тому

      Hi Michael! Great question. We don’t actually use tire shine at all, as it tends to attract dirt and is mostly for appearance. it also may contain petroleum distillates, which is harmful to the rubber. Our preferred tire treatment is Aerospace 303, which protects the rubber with UV protectant, and makes them look good while not making them over-shiny.

    Are you concerned about the heat created by black tire covers with no air circulation? An FMCA tire expert told us we should get white covers if they cover the entire wheel. We opted for solar mesh covers that snap onto the side of the rig.

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  3 роки тому +2

      Great question, Greg! We’ve heard conflicting info on this general topic, including from a prominent windshield screen manufacturer, who says that their testing shows that black does a great job of blocking UV, which is the biggest problem. Not to sound flip about it, but white would clash so badly with our rig, I’m okay with black, even if white is better! 😂

  • @srperk6163
    @srperk6163 3 роки тому

    Do you foresee any heat build up issues with the tires when ordering black over white.

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  3 роки тому +2

      While white may be cooler, we’ve always used black, and been able to run our tires right to the manufacturer’s maximum allowable age limit with the tires in great shape. Black is supposedly a great UV blocker, which is what damages tires the most.

    What size tires do you have? Mine steers are Michelin 365/70R22.5 and rears are 315/80R22.5, both are 42.5" in diameter. Snap Ring "Giant" size says up to 42". Wondering if they would fit. Snap Ring people said they are not sure.

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  11 місяців тому

      We have 295/80R22.5 and the specs say they’re 41.3” in diameter. The “Giant” size Snap Rings fit perfectly. They’re fairly snug, but it’s hard to say if they’re loose enough to allow an extra 1.2 inches for your larger tires. We hope they fit, because they really are awesome covers, but can’t be sure. We do have an idea though… if you buy them on Amazon and they don’t fit you SHOULD be able to return them, since Amazon seems to accept just about anything back. Here’s a link:

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  3 роки тому

      Hey Oklahoma Tumbleweeds... we got the largest size (for 40" to 42" tires). Keep in mind that the rim size isn't the only important factor. You really need to know the diameter of the tire (measured from tread to tread across the center of the wheel), since that varies based on the size of the tire used.

    Hi guys, I am interested in the Snapring covers, my only concern is how to store them in the motorhome, how much room do they take up? Thanks

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  2 роки тому +2

      Hi David! The steel rings that make TireSavers work so well do indeed prevent them from folding up until a tiny little square. I’d estimate that they form approximately a 2’ diameter circle when stored. But they store very thin/flat and all six of our tire covers easily stack on top of each other and form one small circle that’s not very tall at all. It just depends on what your available space is like. While they do take up a slight bit more room than some others, their functionality is so superior, we feel like it’s an extremely small compromise, and would never go back!
