Sometimes the ugliest wheel becomes the most beautiful wheel! Glad to see so many angels 😇 placed in your path.
So glad everyone is safe and you got the help you needed.
Wow.. It's horrible to see and hear about the damage 1 tire can do. That kinda stuff scares me big time and I'm sure it frazzled your nerves a bit too.. Good thing is you all are ok and it sounded like yah had some awesome roadside helpers. 😇😇😇 starting with the officer to the tow truck drivers to tire shop guys. Be safe
As a commercial truck driver, nothing can scare the crap out of you like blowing a tire. Our company is part of the Michelin system of tire shops nationwide that do our road service as needed. They might be something to look into and see if they have rv services available. I would think so since you’re running full size truck tires. I’ve never understood why the inner fenders aren’t re-enforced better than they are on motor homes and travel trailers. Blown tires are inevitable. Glad you guys are ok.
When you have a tire blow out in order not to have the RV pull toward the side of the blow out. You need to keep your foot on the accelerator and get the RV straight before you slow down by letting up on the accelerator fist and then slowly breaking. You may want to check into retrobands for the RV tires. This can help you keep the RV steering straight even if the tires blows. So glad your story ended well. ❤ Recently a family wasn’t so lucky and the motor home steered into oncoming traffic. This is very serious and all your viewers need to take all possible precautions.
wow really great advice thank you
We had a similar experience with a tire blowout. Ours was a rear inner wheel tire. We were on I 10 going west 4 miles from Lordsburg, NM. We had no shoulder we were actually still on part of the right lane. Ours blew out so hard it blew our shower completely out of the inside of the rig, the shower door was laying in the hallway . Luckily it did not shatter. We had what we thought was smoke but it was the dirt from the inside of the tire and smelt like burnt rubber. Yes we lost the wheel well, wheel trim, shower with all the plumbing, enclosure for the def tank and one of the leveling jacks.
We also had Good Sam, Geico and neither were any help. We limped for 3 miles to get off the interstate. We found a roadside tire company that had our size tire, luckily the rim was fine. 2 guys showed up both named Chris and changed out our tire within an hour and a half and we were on the road and made it home to Phoenix with no more issues. After we got home we filed an insurance claim. $16k later we have our motorhome back. First thing we did was buy all new tires.
Yes it’s an ordeal but it worked out just fine.
Just a friendly suggestion for you. Here's the easy way to get out of your situation. Have the tire man remove an outside tire from your duals and put it on in place of your blown tire and damaged wheel. Easy fix and you can drive it into the next town and tire shop.
I believe most of us share the same concerns regarding a blowout. Thanks for sharing, and continue to put God first in your life.
Glad it all worked out well and everyone is safe
So happy it all turned out fine. This is what Rettrobands are for.
Have you ever heard of retroban? That saves people from having an accident. National indoor rv dealers have it.
We just put them on our class A. NIRVC has a demonstration video. Glad you are ok.
It also prevents the tire from shredding and doing more damage like his did. It’s really an amazing product and great peace of mind.
Thanks for sharing. Glad you're safe and everything worked out.
All tires have a 4-digit code on them, to tell you when the week and year they were made, (example 4422 inside an oval stamped on the sidewall, means 44th week of 2022, the 44th week is October 23rd to 29th when the tire was made) Now you can count the number of years old they are, So when you buy tires to put on the vehicle they may be 6 months to 1 year old before you bought them. Keep this tire (date of birth) in mind, when buying tires...
I checked that when we bought this RV last Oct. They're 4919, so not even 4 years old yet.
@@Five2Go did you check how old the new tire is? Hope it’s fairly new date, so to have lots of miles to put on it.
Glad you all are ok! Scary!!
Similar thing happened to us. Good Sam was absolutely no help. Left us in a very dangerous situation on an interstate. Dropped Good Sam like a hot rock.
Same here once AAA. They were clueless. Dropped them like a hot potato. We’ve got State Farm now. Used them, took 12 hours but it worked on New Year’s Day. Deductible was $17. Love em.
Glad you are all ok.
You can watch Newmar videos with them using the leveling Jack's to change tires at there factory. Watch our journey in miles and he talks about it. I think retro bands and a spare tire carrier on the hitch would have saved a lot of grief. Glad it wasn't any worse and your motorhome was repairable.
The hissing you heard was when you hit whatever you hit. Very lucky
Sorry this happened, but thankful everyone is safe.
If you didnt have bad luck, you'd have no luck at all... Glad your safe.
I'm so glad u were all safe and things didn't go bad
So scary! Thank God you guys are ok. Good message!
So glad you all were not harmed. Good informative video. Safe travels for the future.
So glad you got thru that. Nothing bothers me more than the thought of a tire issue. We have tpms sensors on our rig and they are always going off because they read hot. We set the tires at the proper pressure per the sidewall and then when we get going they read too hot. That scares me. Never sure !!!
Y’all have had some bad luck lately. Praying you have safe travels.
After losing a front tire on the truck, I got a air over 12 ton jack for next time. I have onboard air and m18 impact. The stock jack did the job, but killed me in the process.
Glad it worked out as well as it did and everyone was safe!
Roadside mobile service is always our first choice. Usually less cost or about the same as a tow and you can hopefully keep moving down the road.
So glad yall are okay . Looks like you had wonderful people to help you as well
Rettroband from NIRVC- might check it out
Jesus, you guys are having all the bad luck lately. Glad you're all okay. I hope things start to turn around and you get some better luck going forward.
Yikes, glad it turned out as well as it did
I'm so glad you are all safe blow outs are no fun ❤ I can't imagine on Class A like yours ! God bless ❤️
Wow! Shows you that a blow out will cause a lot of residual damage.
So happy you’re all safe! Btw, I just watch a video of yours from 2019 about motorhome safety and in the video you decided to not look at class-a’s for your next RV. What changed your mind from then and now as I see you own a class-a? Thanks!
Take a inside wheel from the back put it on
My in-laws had issues with Good Sam with getting their tire fixed.
Glad y’all are safe! How come you’re not going through insurance for all the damage caused during the blow out?
The amount of damage isn't worth getting them involved when you factor in the deductible and almost assured future rate increase from making a claim. Insurance is great when someone else hits you (like with the Jeep) but not so much in basically ever other scenario...
Oh god. Were the kids in the rig at the time? How did Vector do?
I'm just curious you did not mention what brand of tire
Safe and happy travels😊
The tires (including the one that blew) are Michelin XRV’s, so not some random cheap option
Holy moly
Insurance claim, for sure!!
Yes he can put in a claim.. but his next three years of rates will increase. Might be more of a savings to just self insure this one. This would be considered an at fault accident.
This is cheaper to deal with without getting my insurance involved. Rate hikes are no joke.
Do you have a steering stabilizer?
Wow!
Lucky
Dreaming of camping season and catching up on RV videos. You don't mention if you have any sort of steering stabilizer. They get heavily marketed as being helpful in a blown out steer tire situation so I was curious if you do. Also, you mentioned the TST system but not whether it gave any indications of a leak? Seems like it was a pretty sudden event though so probably not really useful in that particular situation.
We don't have a steering stabilizer on this rig. They're not nearly as necessary on the bigger and heavier diesel pushers. The stock steering on this motorhome is worlds better than it was on our previous gas motorhome with an added steering stabilizer. As for the TPMS, I'm running TST and like them a lot, but there was no indication that anything was going wrong until the tire had already ruptured, and that's what my ears heard as well. A second (maybe two) of a loud hissing and then it was gone. The best TPMS in the world can't predict a rapid failure but you will definitely want one for slow leaks and maintenance.
HAd a scamp tire blown was 1800.00 to fix.
You guys where in the state I live in
Watching your video. Scares me on blowouts also. Was this during the day or night. The tire guy thinks you hit something. Just wondering, because you didn’t mention that you saw anything on the interstate or even have felt running over something, unless it was at night when the road isn’t overly lit up.
Steer Safe presents another disaster, and turns it into a mere gross inconvenience. 😎
There is no steer safe (or any other extra devices) on this rig my friend, that was on our previous motorhome.
Gee, could it have been a problem with the road,
What was your cost for this?
Research Retroband.
Retroband is a great device to help maintain control of the vehicle, but it will do nothing to prevent the tread from shreading and damaging the components around and adjacent to your wheel well.
Roadside assistance companies are great, unless you need to use their services. Then, as you have found out, they are mostly worthless! At least they were able to reimburse you but I would think you would rather have the "roadside assistance" from them rather than you paying and being reimbursed. That said, I did have a great experience with Coachnet.
How fast were you going when it blew out?
Around 65. I keep my cruise set to 61/62 and we were coming down a hill when it blew so it was a couple mph over that.
@@Five2Go damn, very lucky to keep it on the road. Probably my biggest fear losing a drive tire at freeway speeds.
what tire maker
Michelin
I’m not saying what I would like to say - I’m not jinxing anyone including me. 🫥
