Steve Gaines slide work in T For Texas was always impeccable. What a group of phenomenal musicians this band was, fronted by a true musical genius.

Yeah no auto-tune no bullshit. Ronnie came out there like a champion not jumping and dancing around just stood there like a rock killin' it.
Btw this is called the B&S show😂😂 was that really the best name they could come up with? "The Bull and Shitshow"
Actually that'd be a phenomenal name for a show!

That show was in England and they played before the Rolling Stones. Skynyrd was told not to go down stage onto the Stones tongue shaped stage. Ha- They used it and owned it during Freebird ! Totally blew The Stones away that day

They were opening for the Stones that day. The Stones would not take the stage and they’re in England. You’ve got listen to this like 10 times on a good stereo system so you an hear that bass line Thumpers laying down. They were pretty good for self taught country boys. Ronnie the singer and and leader wrote the songs and he never wrote down a lyric. He said if it’s not good enough to remember it’s not good enough to record.

Ronnie Van Zant, lead singer & 2 other band mates were killed in a plane crash in Mississippi, in 1977. Ronnie's little brother became the new lead singer, some time later. That plane became available to Lynyrd because Aerosmith refused to fly on it, due to safety violations. Interesting story. I believe there is either a movie/documentary on all of this.

The colusium in Oakland CA was a great version as well. It's easier to hear and see. I recommend giving it a watch

    • @kathyrais574
      @kathyrais574 3 роки тому +2

Totally agree, a lot od reactors watch Oakland which sounded great obviously but the photographer seemed more interested in the crowd than the band. I get when they change tempo & 100,000 or however many clapping is cool but I want to see these guys perform. They were all so much fun to watch as well, Allen did spilt jump at Oakland, you probably know what I am talking abt, there is a photo from other angle of him in air & swear he was as high as Billy's piano. Guess it could have been photo shopped but he some cool moves. I don't pkay guitar but I can appreciate not so much that ge is jumping but tgat he is playing whatever kick ass guitar solo comes his way obviously Freebird but others as well & he is tight with rest of the band whole time.
I love seeing all these guys reacting to Skynyrd as it is almost like a revival appreciation for their music. I know Skynyrd music has been played for 48 yrs! How many times have you been to a concert & know matter who is playing people yell Freebird. Their legacy continues in part due to Gary keepin a Skynyrd band going with a 10 yr break, no it isn't this band but it a tribute to these guys legacy & their songs live on.

The Ted Nugent band reference you mention and trying to think of is probably Damn Yankees. And youngest Van Zant brother, Johnny, took over main vocals for Skynyrd when oldest Van Zant brother, Ronnie, died in '77 plane crash. Middle brother Donnie was a member of the band .38 Special. Definitely Free Bird from same concert is a must. Great reactions

Steve Gaines playin slide had only been with band like 10 mos at this time. He was killer guitar player. These guys were 1st reference I heard 3 guitar army.
Steve died in the plane crash.
If you are talking abt the iconic slide sound that would have been Gary Rossington, he was in band from beginning.
You are ao right abt being a different time. It was a great time to grow up, All our electronics I love, if not for U tube I woud not been able to see Skynyrd live. They formed in 1964 but 1st record came out in 1973 I believe & their 5 lth album Street Survivors can out Oct 17, 1977 & 3 days later their plane crashed going to a show, lead singer, Steve Gaines & his sister Cassie was in backup singers died that day, the rest faced severe injuries & tons of survivor guilt. So many tragedy in this band but these guys out out 5 albums in 4 yrs & did more than many bands in their whole career!

Not the original lineup here, but still with founding members in guitarists Gary Rossington (long sleeve shirt w/ Les Paul), guitarist Allen Collins (all red outfit), and vocalist Ronnie Van Zant. 2nd (technically 3rd) drummer Artimus Pyle, guitarist (w/ slide) Steve Gaines, piano Billy Powell, and bassist Leon Wilkeson. Today the only original member left is Gary Rossington. Lead singer today is the younger brother of the late Ronnie Van Zant, Johnny.

Ronnie Van Zant is the singer and in general, leader of the band. He also did most of the song writing. He, the guitarist with the short beard and his sister, a backup singer all died in the plane crash on 10/20/1977. Maybe 10 years later, Ronnie's brother got the group going again, taking over vocals from his brother. In all honesty, I've never watched the newer Lynyrd Skynyrd line-up perform at all. There's only 2 of these guys sill alive today. The drummer Artimus Pyle and Gary Rossington, the guitarist with the long black hair. The song "That Smell" was written about Gary's drug abuse. You have to do Free Bird from this festival. It's their best live performance of it.

RONNIE WAS THE ORIGINAL LEAD SINGER UNTIL HE DIED IN A PLANE CRASH NEAR BROOKHAVEN, MISSISSIPPI IN 1977. RONNIE & LYNYRD SKYNYRD PERFORMED T FOR TEXAS AS A TRIBUTE TO JIMMIE RODGERS (THE FATHER OF MODERN COUNTRY MUSIC) WHO RECORDED THIS SONG AS PART OF THE BLUE YODEL SERIES IN THE LATE 1920'S OR EARLY 1930'S!!!!!!!

I like the live version from the Convention hall 1977 ....filmed in black and white but the camera man did a better job on staying with the different guitarists while they all 3 did their own solo's....check out another Jacksonville artist JJ Grey and Mofro Live ...The Sun is shinning down or Lochloosa.

it really was unfair, LS had three of the most insane guitarists to ever walk the planet, all in one band, all taking lead and rhythm in equal parts. The Mad Hatter Leon on bass was nuts, Artimus always solid, Billy Powell on the tinkle sticks, of course Ronnie, the girls, they ruled. Good luck to whoever had to follow those folks(by the way it was The Rolling Stones and they sucked wang)
