I always remembered a Gary Rossington quote in regards to Ronnie watching them play: "Ronnie knew what he had on stage". Basically saying his guys were the best damn guitar players out there.

When Ronnie told the crowd to "Make it rain", he literally meant it. That part of England had been suffering from a lengthy drought that summer.
Allen Collins, Gary Rosington, and Steve Gaines. Greatest trio ever! Just didn't last long
Ed King helped develop the skynyrd sound and is credited with writing many songs. These three were great, but so were the other three. I can't say I like one better than the other, they were both that good!
I love that "goddamn son!" look on Ronnie's face when Steve Gaines starts going to town on that slide. The potential this lineup had.

Skynyrd was one band that sounded just as good or better live than they did on the studio albums. I saw them right after my 17th birthday in April of 1977.
I'm really surprised to see someone reacting to T For Texas but it's really great. Jimmie Rodgers was the original yodeling cowboy but he had a huge impact on lots of music to follow and he was quite the character and he's from the 1920s so think about this, in the 1970s, Lynyrd Skynyrd was paying homage to Jimmie Rodgers and keeping his music alive. That was fifty years later. Half-a-century. And now here we are reacting and looking at Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 70s and keeping that music alive, 50 years later, half a century. What do you think about that?
And one thing I like a lot about the way Lynyrd Skynyrd does this, as I get older and have played in bands for years, is Leon Wilkeson on the bass. They only show him a little bit he's on the right with a funny hat on his head but that guy is a savage beast on the bass guitar. He's playing so damn hard and it's just relentless and it's so funky and driving. And this is in the middle of typically a long show. I can't even imagine how much endurance Leon has. If you listen to the cut from their double live album one more from the road of this song, the fidelity is better and you can really hear the bass line well.
Whoever edited this had zero idea about who is playing what, because it hardly ever showed the person playing that was actually playing something significant. And you didn't ever see Billy Powell at all except for a couple very distant shots of a black grand piano on the stage. At least I could tell it was his black grand piano and not the white one that he sometimes used. Lord.
And of course Artimus Pyle is so much fun. And you're right, they do have their own styles and based on just a horrible editing job and them not ever showing what was happening at the real time except occasionally by accident, it seemed like maybe Steven Gaines was playing slide guitar initially and Gary Rossington was playing the riff and then Allen Collins was basically playing rhythm. But definitely at some point later you can tell Steve's guitar style and they did have a very brief cut of him just totally rocking out picking.
I love Leon’s opening riff on Traveling Man. If you haven’t seen the video of the song from this same concert video, I highly recommend it.

Was fortunate enough to see them live twice in 1976. They headlined one and opened for the Doobie Brothers on the other (blew the Doobies off the stage). This is Knebworth in England. Think they were opening for the Stones this time around.
Only those who saw them pre-crash saw the "real" Skynyrd. I saw them at a 1987 reunion tour, and it was close, but without Ronnie it's just not Skynyrd!!

These guys were pure magic when they hit the stage. They were such an incredible incredible incredible to see Live. their music could light up a crowd like no one before or since. You can't help but smile and start stopping your feet.😁

What’s funny is, they were opening for the Stones and Mick told them they couldn’t go out onto the tongue. Ronnie and the boys, did it with a grin. They blew the Stones away, what a show!

Mick and the Stones couldn't do a thing about it as them Skynyrd southern boys would have kicked their ass just like they kicked the Stones ass by outferforming them on stage! Almost feel bad for the Stones as you simply CANNOT follow such an epic performance by Synyrd! And the Stones knew it... they couldn't follow that! Stones just got drunk and didn't come on stage for 2 hours after Freebird. What an epic moment in rock history! LS is the greatest rock band of all time and may the all RIP!

All of Skynyrd’s live performances had a more energetic upbeat tempo compared to the studio. I just love their live swagger and bravado.
They played for the fans. They defied radio with Freebird. Basically said we're playing for 9 minutes, which half of the song are you going to cut out?
Watch the whole knebworth concert. Amazing. When they opened for led zeppelin the manager told them 30 mins only and no freebird. No band wanted to follow them

The hero of this performance is drummer Artemis Pyle. Gosh, what a great job he did. I mean they all played great, but he really stands out.
I had the honor and pleasure to see this lineup the summer of 1977, in philadelphia pennsylvania.. It was a packed show at j f k stadium with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Peter frampton, dickie betts and great southern, and j giles band. ❤ It was an awesome all day event. An incredible show and a day I will never forget
Saw them in 1974 at Sedalia then 1977 at Chicago’s Super Bowl of Rock in July.
The whole Knebworth show is great to watch but this is one of my favorites from that show.
Last Rebel is another great Skynyrd song.
The drummer was the great Artimus Pyle.

They were opening for the Rolling Stones here. They blew the stones away and pissed them off. This was the greatest band that never achieved it's total potential
Here's a Lynyrd Skynyrd song no one has reacted to. Yet, it's such a great song that John Cougar Mellancamp loves performing it live in his concerts. The song is "Down South Jukin' " from the Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd album
After watching a few videos from this concert, I'm convinced that Billy Powell got caught in the bus with the camera director's daughter before the show.
WTF could be the excuse for not panning to one of the best 'rock' pianists of all time during fire breathing solos that sometimes lasted more than a minute during an entire show? This time, they messed up and we at least SAW a piano from a distance before they cut away. I just don't get it.
One of the all time great performances by one of the all time great bands! I am a NJ guy who happens to have watched this reaction from a hotel in Jacksonville, FL tonight - home of Lynyrd Skynyrd, so I am really felling it. Man, so many classic songs from this amazing band, and not sure all that you’ve reacted to already, but here are a few suggestions: Needle and a Spoon, Curtis Loewe, Sweet Home Alabama (guessing you already reacted to this all time classic?), Tuesday’s Gone, Whiskey Rock and Roller, and the list goes on!

I say it all they time. They were the best. Great ear you got there. Yeah, Billy Powell was great on the keys, and Artimus Pyle is the drummer, and the only band member still alive. The backup singer, Leslie Jo Hawkins is still alive, but wasn’t visible in this video. She too survived the plane crash.
This is a song that the only did live. I don’t think that there is a studio version. They recorded a live album in Atlanta to save The Fox Theater, ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD, and this song does appear on the live album.

Utopia. Estimated crowd 150.000 to 250.000 the stage was in the form of the Rolling Stones tongue. Mick told everyone stay off of it. When LS was playing freebird Ronnie took Gary and Allen out to the tip of the tongue. They played in a middle spot and it took four hours for the next band to come on stage. Also Steve this was his 9th performance with the band Ronnie loved his band he called the guitarist his mules because they did all the work. AUGUSTA GA

I read that Ronnie's voice was going out alot on tour, and he was gonna step down as singer and just be behind the scenes. Steve Gaines who had an amazing voice and someone else was supposed to come in and share vocals with him. The article was after the plane crash and he wouldn't say who was supposed to replace Ronnie.

Man on the slide guitar is Lynyrd Skynyrd Steve Gaines phenomenal guitarists, the whole street survivors album is a must to listen to the whole thing is just so good, it's like ear candy with the Superior three guitar attack Steve Gaines was just on another level that made Allen and Gary bring the best A game each had. I was lucky at thirteen to have seen them live, what a concert.

Ronnie is definitely not your typical frontman. No antics, no gimmicks, he just prowls the stage like a big cat and belts out the tunes.

That was filmed at the Knebworth Festival in 1976. The "tongue" on the stage was restricted to only the Rolling Stones, but Mr. Van Zant being who he was pressed his luck went out on the tongue, getting into a scuff with Mick Jagger about that. It is well known that the "Jacksonville 5+" were a lot better at this than the Rolling Stones who were notoriously sloppy by that time.
Yes, Jimmie Rodgers wrote it originally in the 1920s and it was a slow, bluesy type song. The "Jacksonville 5+" made it a driving song and changed some of the lyrics. Mr. Van Zant is smiling because he knows he picked the right replacement for Mr. King with Mr. Gaines (the bearded guy in the light blue jeans). He is the brother of backup singer Cassie Gaines. When Mr. Gaines auditioned for the band, soundman Kevin Elson was told, "If he sucks, just cut him off". Mr. Elson responded, "Not only does he not suck, this guy can play. He's good.". Just like that, he was a member of the band.
No matter the version, 'ole Thelma was a problem and was likely to get herself a "rounder" (probably a gun shot). I often say, "Gimme a "T" for "Terrific". This song goes over well live and most if not all performances of it by the "Jacksonville 5+" are live performances. Billy Powell is the keyboard player and Artimus Pyle is the drummer.
The tee shirt Mr. Van Zant is wearing is from Muscle Shoals Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. They are the "swampers" referenced in Sweet Home Alabama.

Been listening to Skynyrd from the beginning and I figured I'd be tired of listening to them by now, but I'm not. Their music is just too damn good.
I've always loved how they share the stage and feed off of each other's playing.
I don't think there's a studio version of this. They perform it on their live album, One More From the Road. This may be the performance it was taken from, but I think this one was a little different than the one on the album.

Ronnie was the band leader he would thens boys in shape and if they got out of line look out rip boys.
King Gaines rossington all play slide rossington plays it most of the time. The other 2 part of the time. Gaines is playing crazy slide lead when the singer is smiling.
I knew this song before Skynyrd ever sang it, it my mother was a big fan of Jimmie Rodgers and played his music all the time.. Jimmie's version is pretty dark though.. I loved hearing it done by skynyrd as a teen, several have covered it over the years.
