- How to resolve a check engine light with P0411 indicated on direct injected GM Ecotec engines. The problem is that the exhaust gas recirculation gets incomplete combustion products into the secondary air injection system ports, clogging them. Doesn’t result in engine damage, just increased emissions. Dealer quoted ~$1700 to fix this, took me ~9 hours of careful work and $30 of new gaskets and freeze plugs. Common amongst cars that are not warmed up all the way and driven too lightly.
3/16" Drill bit fits perfect
Thank you
👍
@Northeast Bavarian
Nice video, i did this and the code still came back , how about you ?
The code did not come back for me. Check your secondary air pump and secondary air valve, those may cause the code as well.
@northeastbavarian4249 I cleared the ports, put new freeze plugs, and added a new secondary air valve still have engine code on
Do you know the part number for the freeze plugs?
Or the size of them?
They are Dorman 555012 :)
Ty appreciate it
I replaced secondary air injection solenoid valve and the check engine light came back on so I’m thinking I have to clean out the manifold ports too.
@@shibbyslayr1 it sounds like that is the case, the car in this video was diagnosed at the dealer as needing the ports cleaned, new valve and pump. I could hear the pump run on cold starts so I suspected it was okay. I knew that his car had been driven sporadically and not up to temperature over the past couple years, so I jumped straight to the ports and cleaning them solved my check engine light.
Replace the valve , the pump , and do the cleaning , if there’s still a code clean it again
I actually just performed the cleaning and cleaned the valve. I did not replace the valve or pump. 5k trouble free miles so far.
