    Stumbling across this as I'm actually looking to replace the exhaust manifold but came across my engine having what I'm finding out are these...secondary air injectors. It made the task a bit more complicated than I'd hoped after watching other videos regarding manifold replacement. Question...are all of these bolts for the "runners" easily accessible? Upon a quick inspection of the engine and when I found out these were in my way I was able to see/feel for maybe 2. This wasn't very in depth but it appeared this was going to be quite the chore getting these off and out of the way to get to the manifold (I think I've read a few comments in some message board/forums also stating that he was seemingly unable to get to find all of the bolts holding the runners on the header).

      @@PaulysAuto Don't expect you to see this and this is again a bit of an aside to what your video is about but there just isn't much out there on doing this for the layman. So here goes: what exactly is one do with getting the aluminum piping that the SAI rubber piping connects to that brings in the air (and rests "beside" the runners and on top of the heat shield/exhaust manifold.). This thing is likely killing my DIY ex. manifold replacement! I just found where get the remaining 4 bolts to the runners (under the heat shield, of course) but to proceed any further, that piping is clearly in the way and of course comes all the way from the lower front of the engine. It seems likely too big a job at this point but figured I could try to pick some online brains some more before giving up!

    i am currently engaged to one of these , It should have been a warranty repair by the Manufacturer , but here I am . those S.A.I. valves should be replaced and in Pairs only by the same manufacturer. there are reed valves in them and they burn , get hot and warp so they leak and hot exhaust cooks the inlet valve , you can take the top of the valve , 4 screws and see what i'm Talking about, they have to be tuned for the initial air charge to read in Balance , scan data calls it variance, no more than 3 psi , scan info for one is listed as KPA's and Psi on another "Confusing at best, but the conversion has to be done to be accurate. Baro and circuit A to Circuit B , I'm presenting that as air inlet A and air inlet B, Those need to be calibrated to match seal at below 3 psi. I took them off and started the engine to feel the exhaust blowing out of the ports, I saturated the ports with de-carbon , BG 44k, now that I nave the balance , it takes 2 test drives 35 miles to get the sec Air monitor to run , usually right after the Cat , monitor sets, time consuming way beyond 5 hours, and a lot of it seems pointless and overkill , but that's Emissions for you, I check tomorrow morning to see if flow goes through the Head , I assume it does because exhaust is blowing out of the ports. but it may be restricted just enough. the Sec, Air system test in the snap on program allows both valves to open and pressurize , if there is an imbalance in the upper chamber of those valves code p0411 sets immediately. if there is balance it's on to phase 2, flow through cylinder head , I'm hoping the de carbon will break it up so there is no tear down of the manifold I'm already way upside down in the estimate. 15 hours should be the total check out and repair of this rig.

      Day 2 , honeymoon is over, I can't make this thing happy , i have a zero variance , psi increase of 1.7, 0'2 signal responds instantly when AIR pump is activated, Map spikes, and Baro is spot on with sec a.i.r. valve sensor 4500 ft elevation 85 kpa, 12.5 psi, as soon as the sec monitor passes it codes p0411. I need to send this thing back to it's Mother! Where are the figures for expected calibration? What is the Calibration standard? I wonder if there is a Load sensor for the A.I.R. pump? internal pcm? not mentioned in diagnosis trouble tree?

      @@PaulysAuto Got it! pump is fine , I took the manifold off finally, and there in was the culprit, I had a flapper, pieces of the burnt S.A.I. valve were trapped in the ports, port could breathe, but the flapper would close it off , randomly , after I cleared the debris, the Monitor set immediately , one of the noticeable scan data information was the secondary pressure pid, not the secondary sensor , but the secondary pressure , and the variance both held pressure when it faulted, after clearing the debris the pressure would go up with the air pump but would fall off as soon as the pump shut off, one trip , sec monitor passed at start up. In addition to cleaning out the carbon clogs on my CA 2.4L (Imagine the carbon after 209K miles...), it also needed both secondary air valves @ $300 a pop. 😮‍💨 They looked nasty! @MagnumChris Рік тому +1

      @@PaulysAuto This is actually an incorrect statement. Even if he stayed up on oil changes and watching your live streams, it would not help him. It's a know fact and there was even a class-action lawsuit that some of the 2013 Equinox's got some bad motors that the rings go bad and burn lots of oil. My girlfriend has one, and it would burn a quart of oil every 450 miles. The rings are so bad, you can hold your finger over the vent tube on the valve cover, and it'll build enough pressure, that when you let go, it's like a turbo blow-off valve going off. lol. Also, with some these burning oil that bad, and say the cat gets clogged, could the pressure above the cat in the exhaust system be a cause for this code? Like not letting the solnoids pump the air in becuase the pump doesn't have enough pressure to fight with the build up of pressure because of the clogged cat?

    • @PaulysAuto
      @PaulysAuto  Рік тому +1

      @@MagnumChris Eventually you have to re-ring any engine with emissions like this and let's just be honest, the 2.4L is a gravy engine to re-ring. You can soak the d*** rings and slow the oil burning down or you can just bite the bullet and slam the pistons out the bottom and get it done. And I still think and I will still hold up to this, people do not change their oil enough nor do they even check it frequently - that's a straight fact.

      Not as far as I know, maybe a special coverage depending on circumstances, but this was actually a published Technical Service Bulletin. Depending upon your purchased warranty, it's one of those things that may or may not be covered. You should consult your local dealer and see, I don't want to give out poor information on this.

      California Emissions only...you'll know if it's got it by looking behind the Cylinder Head toward the firewall and Exhaust Manifold....you will see this setup.

      You must mean that I didn't give you a answer you were looking for.
